Well, this was a lovely surprise! Youtube Rock Start TotalBiscuit AKA The Cynical Brit has just featured us on his new show, "After Hour," and it looks like he really enjoyed it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwVm4vlcC-Y&feature=youtu.be&a=

As I expect this will bring an influx of new players, rest assured we are committed to maintenance and community support; we're confident now that the game is in a much better place than when it launched but please do continue to report anything you find -- we're listening! We'll probably do another patch on Monday that incorporates everyone's latest feedback.

DQDX Patch #6 -- Version 2.0.6

This patch is all about bugfixes as we've started to turn the corner on performance gains and stability. That's not to say I won't have another performance patch (still more things I could improve), just that I want to catch up on the regular stuff. This fixes several major and minor bugs that have been widely reported.

STATUS:
Windows: YES (ANGLE only, not yet GL)
Mac: Not Yet
Linux: Not Yet

Changelog

2.0.6a:
- Fixed a weird bug where pressing spacebar in the options menu crashes the game

2.0.6:
- Fix NG+ achievement mixup with endless modes
- Fix ice mage parallel ice shard bug
- Increase ice mage orthogonalization
- Fix "idle healer" bug
- Fix E.T. health bar display bug
- Fix vs_type bug in Archshepard Stave & The Beast's Weapon
- Fix bonus progress display
- Fix "strange symbol" display in foreign locales
- Fix save slot time display
- Make "flashing effects" on by default
- Fix "Error Sheep" appearing in NG+ boss battle
- Minor cutscene fix

IF YOU FIND ANY BUGS AT ALL PLEASE REPORT THEM! Some of you might have noticed that TotalBiscuit recently did a Live stream of the game, and if there's any new problems introduced with 2.0.6 I will swiftly revert to 2.0.5c given the sudden increase in visibility we're under.

Special Edition

Defender's Quest Deluxe (DX) Edition is here! Improved graphics, more story, better performance, more of everything you love!

About This Game

Defender's Quest is a Tower-Defense/RPG Hybrid (Think Final Fantasy Tactics meets Tower Defense). It focuses on three things: tactical depth, customization, and story. That means no random encounters, no spikey-haired emo kids, no forced time sinks, and no tedious, repetitive battles.

The battle system builds off of tower defense, with individual characters taking the place of towers. Each character levels-up, learns skills, and equips gear individually, allowing the player to customize their battle experience and strategy. The overall game structure is similar to "tactical" RPG's, but with a real-time battle system. Game speed is adjustable, and commands can even be issued while the game is paused.

It also features an engaging, character-driven story written by an actual English major! The story strives to be fast-paced, snappy, and always relevant to gameplay with minimal exposition. Finally, it's got options and accessibility settings out the wazoo, so that you can have the best possible experience!

--------
NOTE: this game is currently locked at 30 FPS. This is mitigated by three factors:

  • You have full control of time, so it doesn't affect reactions.
  • The sprite sheets wouldn't animate any faster at 60 FPS anyway
  • A full HD/60 FPS upgrade is coming soon as a free upgrade.

If you want a mindless tower defense game that gives you a false sense of accomplishment, this one delivers. I really enjoyed it.

My Favorite TD game of all time. They got jokes. They got action. They got new game +. On top of all that, its just plain fun. Oh, and mods n' stuff. Just saw the HD release...Got it for free for already owning the older version. Going to go back and beat this game....again. The value here is through the roof. Can't say enough good stuff about the Devs: Want Moar!

This is simply the most enjoyable Tower Defense game I have ever played.

You progress in the game in various ways.

- There is story and character development. What a nice story it is also with lots of humor that is right up my alley.
- Each of your, eventually 30, characters levels up and these levels carry over in between the various maps.
- Within each map you earn levels just for that particular Tower Defense game (Much like all TD games)
- You can earn and purchase gear few nearly all of the characters (One class does not use wepons or armor.)
- You can progress each individual character up a skill tree however you want!
- And finally once you beat the game there is a Game+ mode... Where your levels and skills all carry over. AND it has extra story content.

Oh and if you play the Demo.. Your save will carry over into the full game! So go try it out!

Great game spend 30+ hours and still its fun to play it.
now with the major overhaul i will start the game again from scratch :)

Great TD concept with RPG elements

each tower = a character. some of them will be key characters for the story
a character has HP since the mobs will damage your character
there is equipment (weapon and amor slot) for each character some of the end game game play is to get special items
each character will level up and has a skill tree
in game you buy the characters and pay for the session based levels. out of mission lv ups impact the ability of the max lv and the performance of the skills they characters can use when upgraded during the mission

If you like TD games then you should not hesitate and buy this game for sure :)

This game was amazing before the DX update, now it is even better. A take on the tower defense genre that actually innovates. If your a fan of TD's at all, or enjoy strategic gameplay, you will find a lot to enjoy here.

It's a tower defense game, and we've all played those. If you like tower defense games in general, you'll probably like this one. It's nothing revolutionary, but it is generally enjoyable. Storyline is cliched, but still manages to be endearing. A host of additonal challenge options give it a good amount of replay value.

It's a decent tower defense game, but because of the RPG part, the player is force to grind to be able to buy gear and weapons to progress in the game.
Unless you like to grind in your tower defense, avoid this game.

Great tower defense game. Just checked out the HD update and while it makes the game look better, it causes much more lag than before if using faster battle speed. Definitely shouldn't lag this much, but it's not that big of a problem.

Has a high replayability for me. The story is fine, the grinding and (later) high difficulty doesn't bother me and I like the active magic abilitys of the libraromancer.

Also I'd totally NOT wear a t-shirt to battle.
You are right Slak you sexy, redhaired ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

This is how you do it DEVS
When you do update or redux version old owners get it, not having to buy it again! Also nice tease for next game :)

Pros
Graphics got even nicer
Great gameplay for TD game
Quite funny story and characters
Lot of levels and difficulty settings
You can actualy set difficulty of grinding so playing extra challenges is more manageable!
Steam Workshop Integration
"ARG" bassed special bonuses in game

Cons
Steam Workshop disables achievements (game should state it after you enable mods)
Some challenges have only one proper solution (in case of hidden achievement it mades whole playtrough one big puzzle)

Unreal that this has slipped through my radar for almost 3 years. A tower defense game where your towers are people that you actually care about, not just fire tower #23. The mixture of RPG elements just puts it over the top. Extremely worth the money and I'm only 2 hours in!

P.S. The writing is pretty damn funny at times.

What can I say? Watch the videos above. Look at the user reviews. People LOVE this game. The Devs, LOVE the people who love this game. They gave us a FREE HD remaster. They even give you a Demo to try before you buy. What can I POSSIBLY say about this game that hasn't been said already in all of that? It is one of MY favorite TD games, if not the best TD game out there. It's simple, not too flashy, not too frustrating, humorous and has RPG elements. These Towers aren't just thoughtless machines driven to kill because you ordered them to... No, that one there? That's Slak the shirtless Berserker with the deranged mind and the awesome sword ripping up those ghouls on the tip of that island, right in the middle of the carnage where he can do the most damage. GO SLAK KILL, KILL, KILL! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Yeah, these guys are my peeps, my group, MY ARMY. They ARE SO MUCH MORE than towers. So what can I say? PLAY. THE. GAME. ~'nuff said. >:)

The Deluxe edition is a fantastic upgrade to an already solid indie tower defense game. The new graphics style is clean and looks good at all resolutions. RPG elements and clever options keep replayability high, and the game has a great sense of humor.

Further, the developer has an excellent history of transparency, excellent dev blog materiel, and genuinely cares about this being a great experience. Highly recommended for any tower defense fans.

I feel bad for letting my love for this game unshared for so long, so I'll take advantage of the steam promotion to atone for that fault. That game is just the best tower defense I ever played. The story is great, the mechanics are innovating and the hero mode and the RPG-like skilltrees make you care for your teammates (which act as your towers). The NG+ and NG++ have alternative stories that give you a great replayability, and there are side quests and hidden achievements as well! And if you don't like the farming side or if the difficulty is too high for you, everything can be adjusted directly in the menu, and the game data is crystal clear and can be modified to cheat to your heart content if that makes you happy ^^ 97/100

This is a beautiful little game. If you like tower defense, and you enjoy RPG mechanics and tropes, just get this game. Easily one of the most enjoyable TD games I've ever played.

The dev has also just released a deluxe version for free for all owners which redoes all the graphics into high resolution, expands the campaign, and brings the game up to 60 fps. So apart from being a good game it has solid devs which are worth supporting.

I buy a lot of indie games, not all of them work out or make me glad I bought them, this is one that definitely did and continues to.
