Game Update April 9th

Flight Controls Changes

  • To get an improved level of control when using a gamepad, some changes needed to be made to our base physics interpretation of inputs; for maintainability splitting at this level was not an option
  • The bounded inputs (keyboard, gamepad) now respond in a more predictable and controllable fashion
  • The mouse (unbounded) input is applied overtime to as-closely-as possible match what previously existed
  • There will be subtle differences but they should be mostly unperceivable
  • This does mean controller support for our PC flyers just got an upgrade and you should give it a try!
Valkyrie Balance
  • Valkyrie resilience changes
  • Valkyrie resistance to ESF nose cannons provided by composite armor is being made base line. Composite armor will no longer provide a bonus resistance against ESF nose cannons
  • Base resistance to ESF nose cannons increased from 85 to 90%
  • Composite armor no longer provides a bonus.
  • Resistance to HEAT and AP is also being adjusted. These adjustments make the Valkyrie a little more resilient, similar to a Liberator
  • Resistance to HEAT increased from 0 to 25%
  • Resistance to AP increased from 25% to 35%
Hover Stability Airframe
  • Doubled the improved hover effect. Max rank will now completely negate vertical descend.
CAS-14
  • Needed to be a little better at its job. Blast damage increased so it takes 8 hits to kill infantry instead of 10 within the inner radius.
    • Increased blast damage from 100 to 125
Pelter Rocket Pod
  • The blast damage size on the Pelter is modeled after the banshee. Although it is not intended to be effective anti-personnel, this model is too harsh considering it also has a slow muzzle velocity and a smaller magazine. The blast damage is being remodeled to be part-way between an ESF rocket pod and the Banshee. This should add some versatility to the Pelter where it is more of a hybrid between the CAS-14 and Hellion.
    • Inner blast damage increased from 100 to 200
    • Inner blast radius increased from 0.35 to 0.75
    • Outer blast radius size increased from 1 meter to 3 meters
Hellion G20
  • The Hellion needs a small range increase.
    • Cone of Fire reduced from 1.25 degrees to 1 degree
    • Maximum damage range increased from 10 to 25
    • Minimum damage range increased from 75 to 100
Instructional Events
  • Some of the tutorial notifications will have VO
  • A whole slew of new events have been added
    • Terminals, friendly fire, grief levels, grouping, map screens, profile screens, resources
  • Key reminders have been streamlined
NS-44L Blackhand
  • With an extended barrel and integrated scope the NS-44L Blackhand provides significant advantages over similar pistols when engaging threats at longer ranges.
MAX Weapon Model Updates
  • The following weapons now have new models:
    • TR Mutilator
    • TR Onslaught
    • TR Mercy
    • VS Cosmos
    • VS Blueshift
    • VS Nebula
    • NC Grinder
    • NC Mattock
    • NC Hacksaw
Camo Coverage Changes
  • Updated NC, TR, and VS textures to help with IFF issues. This update revolves around the camo mask and targeted areas on the character to show empire color. This is a work in progress so these edits may change in the future.
Player Studio Items
  • Added a rack of decals
  • Added a ton of helmets
  • Added a wealth of vehicle cosmetics
  • And just a smattering of camos
Misc
  • Changed the impact FX for the Lancer and Vortex to something that does not contain an explosion since the weapons do not inflict blast damage.
  • Smoke grenades have been adjusted to still have a tactical impact at lower graphics settings.
  • Performance pass on 3rd person grenade launcher smoke trails.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixing the Railjack so it does not have a camo applied to it by default
  • Fixed claymores being incorrectly held when viewed in third person and in weapon select.
  • Lowered the volume of heavy bullet impact audio (when inside a vehicle)
  • Fixed missing string in some item descriptions.
  • 1P & 3P: Crossbows: Forearm appears to over rotate when reloading
  • 1P: Shield Regen Device: There is a slight stutter in the equip animation while sprinting
  • Corrected the name of the Ordnance Helmet.
  • 3P: Engineer: Character model is missing arms while using a turret
  • 3P: Harasser is missing a panel on the bottom at the rear
  • 3P: Hunter QCX: Character's left hand does not grip the lock handle fully
  • 3P: Left hand is twisted too much holding a forward grip in the relaxed stance and model preview
  • Supernova-R PC for the Magrider now animates correctly
  • 3P: NS-30 Vandal does not display the ammo clip falling out when reloading

About This Game

PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play, massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS). Empires fight on a massive scale where soldiers battle in an all-out planetary war on a scale never before seen in stunning, breathtaking detail. PlanetSide 2 battles persist when thousands of players align in this game that challenges the skill and grit through intense land, air and vehicle gameplay.

Across four huge maps, players come together in enormous battles to win control of critical territories and key resources for their Empire. With an extensive skill tree and free-form class-based system, players customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. The world of PlanetSide 2 is massive and persistent with every soldier capable of making a difference.

Key Features:
  • THREE WARING EMPIRES: Players will choose to align with one of three unique Empires – the militaristic, authoritarian Terran Republic, the rebellious, freedom-fighter faction New Conglomerate, or the technocratic, alien-influenced Empire Vanu Sovereignty. Each Empire has access to unique weapons, attachments, vehicles, abilities, and more.
  • MASSIVE WARFARE: Battles take place not between dozens of troops, but hundreds; with air and ground vehicles slugging it out alongside squads of troops. Each battleground holds valuable resources and key positions, and the Empire that can conquer (and manage to hold) these territories are rewarded with tech bonuses, greater access to equipment, and more.
  • ENORMOUS MAPS: PlanetSide 2 features four incredible and diverse continent maps with dozens of square kilometers of seamless gameplay space; every inch of which is hand-crafted, contestable space. Whether in open fields, tightly-packed urban centers or enormous outposts, victory requires calculated teamwork and a quick trigger finger to survive the massive battles.
  • PERSISTENCE THAT PAYS: In PlanetSide 2 the war isn’t won by a single base capture. The core gameplay of PlanetSide 2 is about holding crucial territories and controlling resources. Working strategically as a team to secure tactical positions, such as power plants and ammo depots, has long-lasting effects that can shift the tide of battle and provide key rewards and bonuses.
  • CLASS-BASED COMBAT: Players can build their soldier to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. With six distinct classes to explore, each combat role, vehicle and weapon has extensive skill trees that will allow players to grow characters laterally, unlocking hundreds of weapons, attachments, equipment, specialized skills, vehicles, and more. Play as one of six distinct classes:

    - Heavy Assault – Rush into the battle ahead, guns blazing. You are the dedicated foot soldier of Auraxis.
    - Light Assault – Go where the Heavies can’t with your short-burst jetpack. Pick a high spot, throw a grenade and surprise your foes!
    - Combat Medic – Keep your fellow soldiers healed- it’s your job to revive fallen comrades.
    - Infiltrator – Stealthy and silent, you are death from the shadows. Whether you choose a knife from behind or a single shot from sniper’s nest, you are the enemy’s greatest fear.
    - Engineer – A crucial support class with the ability to repair important gear including vehicles, terminals, and turrets. Engineers can drop their own shielded turret and mow down advancing troops.
    - MAX – Heavily armored, cannons for hands, and a disposition to match, you are the ruler of the battlefield and a walking mass of armored death.

  • OUTFIT TEAMWORK: Outfits play a very important role in each and every battle. From a small group of specialized soldiers or rapid response team, to a huge clan that can field multiple platoons of hundreds of players, outfits have access to unique customizations– allowing them to create their own identity and manage their reputation and overall role in the ongoing war.
  • VEHICLES & WEAPONS: Players are able to access a huge array of weapons and vehicles which can be extensively customized for player preference or purposed with unique attachments and add-ons earned in game to fit each player’s style.
  • PLAY FOR FREE: PlanetSide 2 is Free-To-Play with an additional in-game RMT marketplace with items that range from cosmetic camouflage patterns and armor paint jobs, to XP accelerators. Items that affect gameplay, such as weapon side-grades will be purchasable via resources earned in-game through gameplay and achievements.
  • VOICE INTEGRATION: Players are able to communicate with their squads both through keyboard and voice chat.

Looking to try out this game? It is free to play, so you should definitely give it a shot. Now here's what you'll need to know:

Are you good at battlefield, call of duty, counterstrike, or other first person shooters? If so, good for you, unfortunately that doesn't neccesarily translate into this game that well. I actually started this game being not very good at any FPS's and have gotten considerably better, to where i can comfortably say i am a decent player in this game. The game is so NOT user friendly, that it's learning curve has been called a "learning cliff" by the game's own producer, David Carey. It is something that is always being worked on however. Now, a little about the actual gameplay

I have never ever played a game that offered me this type, this range, this level of gameplay. You have the option to pick from different classes, and choose different guns for those classes. With some effort, you can be the driver or even pilot of one of many different vehicles in the game. As stated before, the game is free to play, and does a good job of doing so. All of the weapons in the game can be bought with the in game currency you build up as you play. Real money can be used to buy these guns, as well as cosmetics such as helmets for your character or different camo's. I personally feel like there is something for everyone in the game; if you like to snipe, you can snipe! You can jetpack around as a light assault, or go gung-ho as a heavy assault! There are so many different things to do.

The game takes a decent chunk of time to get into and get better at playing, but in just a few months it became my favorite game. I found a super fun group of people who invited me right in and now i play with as much as i can. There are always periods of time where the game has many (and i mean many) issues that make it difficult to play. And although the community is quick to blame SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) and demand fixes, SOE has truly created a masterpiece with this game. As long as there are servers, as long as i am a gamer, as long as i can, i will continue to play planetside, and would more than reccomend it to anybody reading this review.

The Good Stuff

+Four huge continents as of now (Snow, Swamp, Desert and Forest.)
+A large selection of vehicles.
+A ton of weapons to choose from.
+Six unique classes (Infiltrator, Light Assault, Combat Medic, Engineer, Heavy Assault and the MAX.)
+96 (or more) versus 96 battles for large or small outposts.
+3 factions fighting over the continents. (New Conglomerate, Terran Republic and Vanu Sovereignty.)
+Aircraft Combat, Infantry Combat and Vehicle Combat.
+All items can be unlocked by playing (Excluding cosmetics like helmets and camos)
+Weapons, while expensive, are not direct upgrades, rather sidegrades. This prevents the game from being P2W.
+Active community that makes cosmetics for the game.

The Not-Good Stuff
-It sometimes takes a while to get into the action. (But there is an instant action button that will drop-pod you in to the best battle the game can find.)
-Being spawnkilled is not fun.
-Remember how I said that all guns were balanced up in the good stuff? That isn't true when it comes to air and ground vehicles, as most good items are going to run you 1000 certification points, or you can just shell out some cash and buy it.
-You're going to need a pretty good rig. (I can run it at 60 FPS with a GTX 970 and an i5-4670.)
-Some abilities like Stalker Cloaking and Adrenaline Shield are kind of underpowered.

Tips from Papa Rad
*Cloaking doesn't make you invisible when moving. Hunter cloaking makes you nearly invisible while standing still, Stalker Cloaking makes you completely invisible AND regenerates while standing still.

*If you're using Heavy Assault, make sure to use your Shield ability, which can give you a free extra layer of health.

*Medics can revive everything. Including MAXs, so revive them. Only Engineers can heal them.

*Speaking of MAXs, if you're getting your ♥♥♥ kicked, get one of them and turn the table.

*Play Engineer or Medic if you're new and looking to earn some quick Certification Points, the ingame currency obtained by getting experience points.

And one thing you should know
You will die. A lot. You will spend more time dead than alive in your first few hours. Hell, you'll probably spend more time dead than alive for your first 100 hours.
Your Kill/Death ratio is meaningless. It doesn't matter. Every second a new way of you dying emerges. Casually strolling through the snow? A fighter will probably fly over you and blow you to pieces. Waiting in your newly captured base? There's probably an Infiltrator hiding right behind you about to stick a knife in your back. ♥♥♥♥ it, you're gonna get teamkilled more than being killed by enemies if you play NC. It's a gloriously good game, but it's 50% skill, 50% chance that there's no Light Assaults flying over you with 4 grenades in his pouch and a C4.

See below for collecting some free stuff for this game after installing it and some beginner guides

Pros:
+Alot costumization options for weapons, cosmetics and general playstyle
+3 Different factions with different playstyle
+6 Classes and each class can fullfill several roles
+A constant playerbase
+Ingame clansystem (Outfit) and fast creating of temporaly groups (Squads)
+Giant maps and big battles
+Alot weapons and vehicles
+Air battles
+Release of new content still keeps on
+No Pay 2 Win (But Pay 2 Progress)
+Implant-system that will tweak your playstyle a little bit more

Cons:
-Sometimes laggy gameplay and high pings
-Not a real competitive shooter compared with CS:GO
-Unpolished Respawn-System
-High-End-Computer needed to play with a good graphic and FPS above ~60.
-A bit grindy gameplay. To unlock everything you need to play several 1000 hours!
-Clientbased hitdetection (For more details search in google "Planetside Clientbased Hitdetection")
-SOE-Account needed

Planetside has defenitly it bad sides. It happens often that one faction outmatch a other one extremly and the whole gameplay endsup in a giant spawnkill festival.
But if you search for it, you always can find balanced battles in which you can participate.
And there are those short moments in which you or your squad has the chance to turn the table of the battle.

For example when you slip through the heavy enemy defenses undetected, with your light tank or buggy and spot some enemy mobile spawnpoints. You have now the chance to destroy the enemy mobile spawnpoint from a more or less safe distance before the enemies notice what is happen.
If you succed you may stop the enemies to flank your forces with fresh troops, which will often turn the battle to your favors. That is really a priceless experience!

Afterall Planetside is for a free2play not flawless, but a really good and pretty unique game, that should be try out.

I'm running around the point with the platoon as a combat medic, and see my teammates going down left and right. I put down the shield regeneration bubble to recover my teammate's shields up and I start reviving my teammates. Also our engineers are supplying our teammates in the front. We all know that we're in a pich and that we need immediately some help. I see several friendly inflantrators sniping down enemies from behind, which is pretty much helping us a lot, but not nearly enough. Then I hear something beautiful behind us and from the Platoon chat. Our max crash is coming, and it's going to push the enemies back by a bit. We might be able to turn this war upside down for now.

This game... It's a fantastic game, especially if you are in a platoon with people who know their stuff and know how to give and listen to orders. It's basically a neverending war in a huge zone, where you capture areas and with some main areas, you will gain bonuses for your faction.

Once a faction is getting together and making up plans, strategies and orders, this game is an incredible game. It's not just a basic futuristic battlefield, but it's something where you really need and want people to stick together and fight together.

I know several friends though, who love to play this game alone than in a platoon. I don't myself see the interest in that, but I guess it will give you more freedom. I just myself love to move in a huge mass with other people, always managing to make people push back and supporting my teammates with either ammo or heal.

When the game was still pretty new (in the first year of it's publishment), it was poorly optimized and gaining certs (which is the free in-game currency) was nearly impossible and a long process. Now though, the game works much better and certs are easier to get, turning the game not to be so pay-to-win anymore. Sure, you need 1000 certs for a gun, but the first guns you're using is pretty much as good as the guns you can only buy with SC.

This game seriously is a must-to-try. It's an interesting game and really has some decent graphics and an amazing gameplay. When I stopped playing this game because of my low FPS, I felt like always coming back, but never being able to. But now, after getting a new computer, I'm running on semi-stable 60fps, even in huge fights. There still are some minor bugs and minus sides, but those don't really affect the gameplay that much. Only sometimes, but not usually.

9/10, you should try this out, even if you're not into huge battlefield games.

SPOILER ALERT

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 1/4 cups milk, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more as needed

Now to make it
1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk and vanilla.
3. Melt the butter in a large cast iron skillet or griddle over medium heat.
4. Whisk the butter into the milk mixture. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture, and whisk until a thick batter is just formed
5. Keeping the skillet at medium heat, ladle about 1/4 cup of the batter onto the skillet, to make a pancake. Make 1 or 2 more pancakes, taking care to keep them evenly spaced apart. Cook, until bubbles break the surface of the pancakes, and the undersides are golden brown, about 2 minutes. Flip with a spatula and cook about 1 minute more on the second side. Serve immediately or transfer to a platter and cover loosely with foil to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
6. Procedure for adding fruit to pancakes: Once the bubbles break the surface of the pancakes, scatter the surface with sliced or diced fruit, or chocolate chips, nuts, etc. Flip with a spatula and cook for 1 minute more, being careful not to burn toppings

but reallly this is a good game

i'm a 2xBR100 with 5k~ hours spent ingame from Cobalt (EU server).

pros:

- has massive potential of being the biggest & best TDM game ever (dynamic TDM with strategy elements, where hexes/bases are basically arenas).

- nothing like it out there.

- surprisingly fun infantry gunplay and deep class builds.

- easy to use yet thrilling vehicular play (when not just farming infantry like a ♥♥♥).

- 25-48 vs. 25-48s are some of the best gaming moments you'll experience. so are wins against the odds with your outfit mates.

- game looks suprisingly beautiful considering what it's trying to accomplish.

cons:

- p2w elements introduced lately in the form of Implants that drain energy rapidly, and energy chargers rarely dropping to maintain energy. widens the gap between the new player or the average non-paying customer and the old player (with a lot of certs laying around) or paying customer, and gives a nice small advantage on the tier 4s.

- client performance has been on a decline since performance update 01. it's been pretty terrible as of late, after code merge with ps4 version.

- server performance has been terrible/unplayable the past year. especially for EU players (having better connectivity, hit detection to NA servers, instead of home server on EU). the devs know about it, but just can't get their ♥♥♥♥ together, either because they stopped caring about the PC version, or they just don't have the experience to solve this.

- content/experience is player driven and since the community is lazy/stupid & there are no rules/restrictions to ensure quality, the fights are mostly unbalanced/one-sided/boring. a majority of the community either farms base captures (96+ vs. 2 guys in a spawn room, yey) or farms kills (mostly in vehicles/maxes or heavy assault) while not playing for any objective.

- new player experience is still one of the worst in gaming history. tutorial is very slim and doesn't really cover some important stuff. you drop to the biggest fights on the continent ang get slaughtered over and over again. all your support tools are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ly slow, and your can't get attachments for your weapons for a very long time. after all that, you end up in a platoon ran by a bad/lazy leader who teaches you the wonders of zerging like a stupid sheep, and than end up in a bad outfit that does it on a daily basis with an array of bad/lazy leaders. you also use a shotgun or a max suit everytime you can, cause why not.. and get used to completely playing the game on easy mode. and that's a the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community expands and kills any competitiveness or fun you could have in this game.

- dev team size has been cut hard or shifted to ps4/xbox1, and as a result new content is rarely released, or released in a broken "phase 1" state, and left like that for a LONG period. (we still didn't get any phase 2 to any of the phase 1s that currently ruin the game [like the resource system phase 1]).

- weapon/class balance is terrible and the devs are generally out of touch/base their tweaks on spreadsheets, micro sales or forum/reddit outcries.

- bugs, bugs, bugs, some still existing ever since beta. every patch creates more bugs.

- game's netcode is clientside based, making the game pretty iffy for competitive play, where you die behind walls or can exploit packet loss to your advantage (therum style). the devs support the community with a competitive server you can scrim on (jaeger) doe.

- base design is bad and boring for the most part. recycled assets everywhere makes for a very repeatitive feel to the game.

- the game's engine can't handle big 96/+ v 96/+ fights. infantry starts to not render at normal ranges. mainly a problem for vehicle players.

Gear up soldier, get ready for an awesome experiance on the planet Araxus that takes you across 4 huge continents, jump straight into the action and get yourself tangled up into 200+ player battles, Tank battles across plains, or take to the skies in an asortment of planes. Everything you could ask for from a MMOFPS. AND ITS FREEEEE!!!!

10/10 would spend another 1000 hrs on

I love the idea of this game, but the biggest problem with it is that it is an MMO without a noob zone. You are immediately thrown into a game with max level players that are much better than you and better equipped.

Got a new PC just to play this.

Loggin in, spawing at warpgate- OMG this is awsome. Transport ships, Galaxy gunships, tanks, bunch of people. Get in to a transport ship. Take of. This feels almost like the beginning of "Black Hawk Down". Enjoying the beatutiful sceenery of snow and gigant black icicles when BAM. Rank 8 pilot just rammed a cliff and killed us all....

Get to the respawn screen and see a "Join squad". Press it and then "Squad spawn". Get transported to Indar. But I loved the snow :(. Spawed under a house thing next to a big globe thing. Looks important. Everywhere explosions, screams of suffering and gore. Take a wallless lift to the platform on the globe. Its like the D-Day all over. Everyone pinned down behind steel walls and trying to get throu narrow gap in the globe. See "Monty Pyhton" laying dead next to me. Ohh right, Im a medic. Revive him just to die with him the next moment.

Half an hour and 200 deaths later I conclude- running blindly inside the gap of the important looking globe thing isnt a good idea.

Planetside 2 is a game with aquired taste. If you like large scale war and fiece fps battles, youll enjoy it. The problem with planetside is that it is, technically a huge piece of ♥♥♥♥. For over 2 years this game has sat without optimization. It runs pretty smoothly but i must stay, if you do not have a moderatly powerful machine, you wont be able to enjoy planetside. The game is so taxing on CPU's its almost criminal! XD But overall the game is solid and worth your time if you have the tech :)

Massive war, endless battles, HUUUUUGE maps, A+ graphics (seriously running this game on max settings will make the girls panties drop), and for the most part a friendly community, all packed into a 100% free MMO!!! I seriously haven't had this much fun playing an online futuristic FPS since Halo 3. The fact that its an MMOFPS makes it a million times better. I can just press "I" and i get dropped into chaos! As a filthy casualy gamer that's also a parent.. I really love that you don't need to spend any money to play and have fun (although i had to buy some cool looking gear and a few scopes so i did drop about $30 so far). Ill be playing this game til PS3!
