Guide To The New Construction System

***UPDATE: To celebrate our biggest update ever, we’re going all out with 2XP for everyone from 5/13 – 5/22! And, XP boosts will be 20% OFF during double XP week. So get out there soldier, and grab your extra certs while you can! ***

In case you missed it, the construction system is now live on PC! The discovery of the powerful new mineral Cortium has given rise to all new objects, tools, and vehicles – so here’s all the intel you’ll need to start building your way to victory!

HOW IT WORKS

ANTs
Players can summon an Advanced Nanite Transport (ANT) at any vehicle terminal. ANTs are 4-man transports that have mining lasers for harvesting Cortium nodes, which are scattered around the map. The ANT can be deployed at any time, which will reveal access to a building terminal from which you can equip and then place fortifications (at a cost to Cortium).
Placing Construction Objects
When placing fortifications, you can rotate the object using left or right click. Move the object closer or further from you by holding left and right click at the same time. Raise or lower an object by looking up or down without clicking the mouse. All objects have blue and green “placement points” which help the player determine the right height of an object. Blue points must be beneath the terrain, while green points must be above the terrain. When your object is in position, press “E” to place it.

Silos
A “Cortium Silo” can store large quantities of Cortium, and also “claims” the land for you and your squad. Claimed land means that players cannot deconstruct any of your fortifications with the “Decon Tool” (also found in the ANT terminal). ANTs can offload Cortium to friendly Silos using the same method as harvesting minerals: just approach the Silo and hold the firing button.

Powered Construction Objects
Some construction objects require a nearby Silo (with stored Cortium!) to remain active. Modules, for example, are constructs that can improve surrounding fortifications, but go offline if the Silo runs out of Cortium. While a module is near a Silo, Cortium will be drained automatically. The more objects that require power, the faster your Cortium Silo will drain.
HIVEs
Hardline Interference Volume Emitters or “HIVEs” are structures which can generate Victory Points over time. These structures also require a nearby Silo for power, but only when they are active. A HIVE becomes “active” when your faction has an available core.

Victory Cores
When a continent unlocks, each faction has a certain amount of cores available. By default, each faction gets 2 cores, with an additional core given to whichever faction unlocked the current continent. Cores are automatically placed in HIVEs closest to an enemy Warp Gate. The closer the HIVE is to an enemy Warp Gate, the faster it will generate Victory Points.
When an active HIVE is destroyed, the faction who destroyed it will recover that core for their faction, and it will then automatically activate the most ideal HIVE, provided another empty HIVE exists.
It’s worth noting that Silos must be restocked with Cortium constantly, as HIVEs, like modules, require an active power source to function. If a Silo runs out of Cortium, an active HIVE will no longer generate Victory Points.
Lastly, Victory Cores will occasionally jump from HIVE to HIVE. Cores gravitate to whichever HIVE is capable of generating the most Victory Points, but will not do so if there are too many enemies in the target region, and cores will also not leave a HIVE currently under attack.

CONSTRUCTION OBJECTS
By default, each player is given access to Rampart Walls, Bunkers, Anti-Infantry Phalanx Turrets, Silos, and Repair Modules as default construction objects, and HIVEs are also unlocked at Battle Rank 15 for free. New types of fortifications may be purchased with Certs or DBC.
All structures are much weaker while being constructed than they are when they’ve been completed, and at the moment, each structure type takes 45 seconds to complete.

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TOOLS AND CONSTRUCTS

  • Decon Tool
Can be used to deconstruct misplaced structures.
  • Rampart Wall
Long, horizontal wall with high health and firing areas for infantry.
  • Bunker
Small, durable fortification with firing areas for infantry and an open area on top.
  • Sunderer Garage
Small garage with enough cover to house a single Sunderer.
  • Cortium Silo
Small, durable, and provide power to a base. A single Silo can store up to 50,000 Cortium at a time. It also claims the nearby area for you and your squad, which prevents unsquadded allies from deconstructing nearby objects.
  • HIVE
Initially a vulnerable “chassis” when unpowered. While housing a Victory Core, the chassis becomes indestructible, and a small shielded area becomes the only point where it can receive damage. Active HIVEs generate Victory Points based on their proximity to the enemy Warp Gate, and require Cortium from a nearby Silo to operate.
  • Repair Module
Cortium-powered module which quickly repairs nearby structures. This is an extremely important component of any base.
  • Structure Shield Module
Cortium-powered module that creates one-way shields for most of the openings on Bunkers, Rampart Walls, and Sunderer Garages.
  • Skywall Shield Module
Cortium-powered module which projects a shield above, protecting from aerial bombardment.
  • Turret AI Module
Cortium-powered module which provides nearby deployed turrets with automated tracking abilities, allowing them to fire on enemies who stray too close.
  • Anti-Infantry Phalanx Turret
Mannable turret which excels at taking down enemy infantry.
  • Anti-Vehicle Phalanx Turret
Mannable turret which excels at destroying enemy vehicles.
  • Anti-Air Phalanx Turret
Mannable turret which excels at destroying enemy aircraft.
Ready soldiers? It’s time to put your new construction system training to test on the battlefield!

About This Game

PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play, massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS). Empires fight on a massive scale where soldiers battle in an all-out planetary war on a scale never before seen in stunning, breathtaking detail. PlanetSide 2 battles persist when thousands of players align in this game that challenges the skill and grit through intense land, air and vehicle gameplay.

Across four huge maps, players come together in enormous battles to win control of critical territories and key resources for their Empire. With an extensive skill tree and free-form class-based system, players customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. The world of PlanetSide 2 is massive and persistent with every soldier capable of making a difference.

Key Features:
  • THREE WARING EMPIRES: Players will choose to align with one of three unique Empires – the militaristic, authoritarian Terran Republic, the rebellious, freedom-fighter faction New Conglomerate, or the technocratic, alien-influenced Empire Vanu Sovereignty. Each Empire has access to unique weapons, attachments, vehicles, abilities, and more.
  • MASSIVE WARFARE: Battles take place not between dozens of troops, but hundreds; with air and ground vehicles slugging it out alongside squads of troops. Each battleground holds valuable resources and key positions, and the Empire that can conquer (and manage to hold) these territories are rewarded with tech bonuses, greater access to equipment, and more.
  • ENORMOUS MAPS: PlanetSide 2 features four incredible and diverse continent maps with dozens of square kilometers of seamless gameplay space; every inch of which is hand-crafted, contestable space. Whether in open fields, tightly-packed urban centers or enormous outposts, victory requires calculated teamwork and a quick trigger finger to survive the massive battles.
  • PERSISTENCE THAT PAYS: In PlanetSide 2 the war isn’t won by a single base capture. The core gameplay of PlanetSide 2 is about holding crucial territories and controlling resources. Working strategically as a team to secure tactical positions, such as power plants and ammo depots, has long-lasting effects that can shift the tide of battle and provide key rewards and bonuses.
  • CLASS-BASED COMBAT: Players can build their soldier to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or Empire. With six distinct classes to explore, each combat role, vehicle and weapon has extensive skill trees that will allow players to grow characters laterally, unlocking hundreds of weapons, attachments, equipment, specialized skills, vehicles, and more. Play as one of six distinct classes:

    - Heavy Assault – Rush into the battle ahead, guns blazing. You are the dedicated foot soldier of Auraxis.
    - Light Assault – Go where the Heavies can’t with your short-burst jetpack. Pick a high spot, throw a grenade and surprise your foes!
    - Combat Medic – Keep your fellow soldiers healed- it’s your job to revive fallen comrades.
    - Infiltrator – Stealthy and silent, you are death from the shadows. Whether you choose a knife from behind or a single shot from sniper’s nest, you are the enemy’s greatest fear.
    - Engineer – A crucial support class with the ability to repair important gear including vehicles, terminals, and turrets. Engineers can drop their own shielded turret and mow down advancing troops.
    - MAX – Heavily armored, cannons for hands, and a disposition to match, you are the ruler of the battlefield and a walking mass of armored death.

  • OUTFIT TEAMWORK: Outfits play a very important role in each and every battle. From a small group of specialized soldiers or rapid response team, to a huge clan that can field multiple platoons of hundreds of players, outfits have access to unique customizations– allowing them to create their own identity and manage their reputation and overall role in the ongoing war.
  • VEHICLES & WEAPONS: Players are able to access a huge array of weapons and vehicles which can be extensively customized for player preference or purposed with unique attachments and add-ons earned in game to fit each player’s style.
  • PLAY FOR FREE: PlanetSide 2 is Free-To-Play with an additional in-game RMT marketplace with items that range from cosmetic camouflage patterns and armor paint jobs, to XP accelerators. Items that affect gameplay, such as weapon side-grades will be purchasable via resources earned in-game through gameplay and achievements.
  • VOICE INTEGRATION: Players are able to communicate with their squads both through keyboard and voice chat.

I'm sorry that I couldn't get into this game. I've played tactical and team-based shooters my whole life. However, as beautiful as concept as this is, the game takes a team based shooter and puts it on speed and LSD simultaneously.

Now, if this is your cup of tea, try it! It is free to play, go ahead. I just want something that doesn't feel like a sci-fi civil war style, with endless bodies and lives. I want something that makes you think thrice before charging.

This is truelly a free-to-play game, if you are really into first person shooting. However, this game recommend a better gaming-PC with better graphics card to experience the guality of the game.

PROS:

Graphics and gameplay are solid.

Outfits aren't as common as they once were but the game is still very enjoyable and it isn't hard to find a group of people to play with.

The new base building feature is fun even though it takes a long time to grind the certs to unlock this feature.

CONS:

Although, you will experience some sort of optimization depending on your PC performance.

Great game, been playing on and off since 2012.

Graphics and gameplay are solid. Most items you can buy with in game currency, it isn't a P2W game although there are a few times i felt like the game was really trying to get me to pay.

Outfits arent as common as they once were on Emerald/Mattherson but the game is still very enjoyable and it isn't hard to find a group of people to play with.

The new base building feature is fun even though it takes a long time to grind the certs to unlock this feature.

However, i find the game flows you into larger fights better than it did before even though there are less people playing.

It's free, it's massive you have nothing to lose. Jump in if you enjoy class shooters like Battlefield and vehicle combat like Halo and you'll have a blast.

This game is very much NOT new player-friendly. Attempts to balance out some of the learning curve with a low-level, smaller-scale tutorial continent sort of fall flat because said continent is almost always completely empty. It's hard to learn the game when your only option is to go straight into the fray with other players who are both much more experienced and well-equipped than you. (Higher levels can purchase straight damage reduction with certs, thankfully not station cash.)

This is one of those twitch shooters where millisecond reactions mean the difference between life and death. You can't take much damage before dying, and many times, you will be killed without really knowing how, why, or what you did wrong. Though the game tries to show you a player's view cone after they kill you, this means little if they are, say, a sniper and you don't know the map or where they may have shot you from.

It's a shame because the idea of huge pitched battles could be incredibly fun, but often times they quickly devolve into one-sided, spawn-camping curbstomps. If you know what you're doing, you'll likely have fun and much of the dreadful grind has indeed been polished out. Unfortunately, if you're a new player that's just getting their feet wet, you'll feel much like a scrawny nerdy kid in dodgeball with a bullseye on his shirt.

I definetly recommend this game... With amazing gameplay, exciting vehicles and millions of ways to customize your loadout, along with 6 different classes. This game is a CO-OP FPS, that requires people to work together, for example: A vehicle you can aquire in game from a Ground Vehicles Terminal, The Sunderrer, is an all-purpose, mobile bunker-type vehicle that can carry 11 passengers, not counting driver and gunners. The Suderrer requires 6 people to take complete advantage of all its features, It can also be deployed as a health station, because of its 2 turrets, it can repel enmy attacks easily. PLEASE DOWNLOAD THIS GAME! VERY RCOMMENDED!

It was a great game in 2012 with a terrible business model. It's still the same thing now but with less players, more overpriced guns, dagobah, a construction system, and even less rewards for your time invested with the jacked up weapon and vehicle prices. What amazing progress in four years! Truly awe-inspiring how you can take one of the best ideas for a game and turn it into complete garbage by being greedy, stubborn, and slow. You can pay a bit and play with a squad to enjoy it a lot more, but spending extra to season a turd and splitting the meal with friends doesn't stop it from being a turd.

PlanetSide2,
the only reason i found that this game exists is because of NerdCubed
PlanetSide2 is a game i would recommend for people who hate COD,BattleField, etc.
if you found this game on the front page (looked up planet in the search box or a friend recommended it)
and INSTANTLY scrolled down here, before asking yourself "huh what's this game about"
well friend it is a game about all out war,
you have three factions:
vanu soverneity (MASSIVELY mispelled)
new conglermate
and terran republic
you must choose between the three factions
the terran republic are russians on drugs(like,REALLY hardcore drugs)
new conglermate are weak-a**e brutes from halo
and vanu soverneity are medium
juuusstt medium
"what's the lore then?"
google it.

i would highly recommend(how many time have i said that!?)Planetside2

oh you want more?ok
Planetside2 is the home of insane battles
ranging from seeing two galaxy's(the biggest aircraft) collidemid-air to
to being surrounded by a bazillion MAX's
on tech plants
i mean
HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE DAMN TECHPLANTS!!??
THERE HUGE!
AND THEY LOOK LIKE THERE ABOUT TO START MOVING AT ANY MOMENT
*cough*
im good
so that should be all the evidence you need to install and play
also,
dont worry,there is a tutorial,

Instead of playing the objective
Our platoon leader told us to go back to home base
Have each one of us get a sunderer (Truck sized vehicle)
Then form a conga line with the vehicles
And go to the objective
One guy was playing conga music in voice chat

You think "well just another poor fps since it's free"? You're so far away from the truth...

This game IS the real deal! You're not in a little skirmish: THIS IS WAR! THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE WAR! The fight never cease no matter the hour of the day and death await you at every corner.

I hope you're not epileptic because when three hundred players or more decide to confront for one base you've got explosion everywhere. Pay attention to everything: the cloaked infiltrator, the tanks firing hellfire, the rain of missile from ennemy air forces, the bikes with turrets, the snipers, the heavy exoskelleton infantry, the light infantry with jetpack... All of that in a whole continent where you're free of your every moove: hide in moutains, behind trees, jump on your ennemy from cliff, use turret against ground or air in your base...
Run for you life, struggle for each little win.
And bring entire nation to its victory or demise.

PREFACE: This game is NOT pay to win! Don't believe the lies! More on this below.

Planetside 2 is unlike any other gaming experience you've ever had.
There's a reason why so many people say that Planetside 2 ruined every other online FPS game for them. Nothing comes even close to the scale this game provides and to the many playstyles it has to offer.
Imagine your favourite Battlefield title, only with incomparably larger maps (we call them continents) and up to 1000 players wreaking havoc across them in more ways than you can count.
You can try and capture enemy bases in an organized attack with dozens of your friends while preventing the enemies from snatching your own territory in return. You can harvest resources and build outposts. You can even just have some casual fun blowing stuff up. But however you choose to play the game, you will be having the most epic fights of any FPS game out there.
Whether you want to focus on infantry or vehicular combat, the game has you covered.
You can be a dedicated sniper/recon, a medic, an engineer, a sturdy heavy assault or a jetpack-toting light assault that can ignore many obstacles and surprise enemies with their pants down. You can even climb into a MAX, an exo suit designed to absorb lots of damage and break a stalemate. The infantry play greatly rewards skill and accuracy, with a big emphasis on burst firing, headshots, positioning and awareness.
Are you a tank buff? Look no further: depending on your choice of faction you gain access to 3 unique two-man tanks, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, all featuring projectile drop and giving you much room to grow in skill. A good tank crew can have a massive impact on the battlefield.
Are you a fan of aircraft? Planetside provides several, from the light empire specific fighters, which work like a cross between a jet and a helicopter, allowing for every manoeuvre you can think of, to the powerful 3-man liberators and larger 6 and 12 man transport ships. Whether you're looking to provide air support to your faction, or simply scour the skies looking for enemy air to engage, you're sure to have fun, epic battles.
There are also lighter, one-man tanks, 3-man buggies and an ATV, which can be equipped with an invisibility cloak for surprise attacks and stealthy passage through enemy territory.
There is so much depth to this videogame that you can literally play it for thousands of hours without ever getting bored of it, since you can keep rotating through the many different playstyles available in order to keep it fresh. Really, Planetside 2 is like several solid games packaged into one, and all of it FOR FREE.
There are some who will argue that the game is P2W but if you pay attention you'll notice that most of them have barely played the game for any substantial length of time. What they are experiencing is simply the learning curve of the game, which is admittedly a bit tough at first, but rather than allowing time for their skill to mature they chalk it up to premium items/features. THIS IS FALSE. The only payed-for exclusives are purely cosmetic. Everything else, you can obtain at a reasonable pace through playing the game. I should know. I never spent any money on it.

Do yourself a favour and try this game out. Have patience, look for tutorials, ask for tips whenever you get the chance. Once you're through the baptism by fire that all of us have gone through you'll start having crazy amounts of fun!

Just look at the time I've played for and thats only on ONE of the THREE factions. There are still many aspects of this game that you could dedicate yourself to. Pilot, Tanker, Sneaky sniper, Medic or even the coveted party bus driver. Download it, watch a heap of yourube tutorials and your set.

Warning.
Once you shoot planetmans EVERY other shooter pails in comparison. Nothings as deep or as epic as Planetside2

All of my reviews are based around my personnal opinion, they're not swayed by a majority of people liking or disliking it.

Release:
PC: November 20th 2012
PS4: June 23rd 2015
Genre(s):
MMO, FPS
Developer:
Daybreak Game Company
Publisher:
Daybreak Game Company
Mode(s):
Multiplayer

TL:DR

There's a good mix of people liking and disliking this game. Both sides are plausible. It's an action packed realistic first person shooter, but has a huge learning curve. There's also the arguement of whether or not the game is P2W or not. I'm not really going to go into that. I played this game when it first came out, when I had a computer that was hardly capable of anything. A few years later when I had an actual good PC, I got addicted. It's not a game that you would play forever. For me, I play it for a bit, then leave it, then later on go back on and play it for a few more hours. I've personally had a lot of fun playing this. If you're looking for massive open worlds and dozens of player controlled battles to delve into and thats free to play then I would recommend this. If you're not a fan of huge learning curves, then this game might annoy you a bit.

NOTE:
All of my reviews are laid out in a particular format that fits the game.

About

Planetside 2 is one of my favourite MMOs, mainly for how immersive it is. The game is split into 3 factions: Terran Republic, New Conglomerate and the Vanu Sovereignty. People who've played the first game might recognise some of the lore in Planetside. The war is set on a planet called Auraxis. These 3 factions are fighting for control of 4 different continents; Indar, Esamir, Amerish and Hossin. These continents are filled with different bases to conquer and defend. Bases are crucial to conquer the continent, and are hard to conquer without a good number of people. The factions have their own stories behind them. The Terran Republic are from Earth, and believe in law and order. The New Conglomerate are freedom fighters, seen as terrorists, that are against the Terran Republic's control. And finally the Vanu Sovereignty, which see technology as the way for humanity to achieve greatness. At the beginning of the game, you get to choose which faction you want to fight for. You are given 3 character slots, so you can have a character for each faction, (Unless you get membership which gives you an extra slot). As I mentioned before, all the battles in this game are player controlled, meaning there are no NPCs. Continents can have up to thousands fighting, making it a very realistic experience. The game has 5 different classes, each with their own unique role. These are: Infiltrator, Light Assualt, Combat Medic, Engineer, Heavy Assualt and a special class, MAX. As well as battling on foot, there are vehicles that can be brought into the fight. These can range from tanks, to mobile spawnpoints and even to aircraft. The game allows you to set up squads which bring players together to conquer bases or sneak behind enemy lines making this a very realistic yet futuristic experience.

Gameplay

As mentioned earlier, it's an FPS with a huge learning curve. The game tries it's best to give players the help they need to survive in battle by giving tutorials, and recently, a smaller continent before people of battle rank 15. Some people find these helpful, others don't. I covered quite a bit in the About section. The game is split into 5 classes, the world map is split into 4 contintents plus the added smaller continent, vehicles range from tanks to aircraft and much more. There's just one tip I must give, never go alone. Unless you are really stealthy, you won't survive by yourself. The game prompts you to be with a group of people, or at least be there when a fight starts. The game allows the creation of squads that people can create and invite friends or other random people to join them. For people not wanting to make squads, there is an auto join option which will automatically put you into a squad. There are also groups called Outfits, Planetside 2's version of a clan. Some of these have guidelines to follow before joining, which should be displayed by the owner of the outfit. The game has a vast amount of different weapons for different classes. To buy these weapons, you are given 2 different payment options. Certs, which you passively gain from kills, capturing bases, completing missions etc., and finally Daybreak Cash, which you pay real money for. This is where the arguement for the game being P2W comes from. Some weapons require you to pay Daybreak cash, and not certs. Some people think these are the better weapons, and the ones that you pay certs with are terrible. You can either pay for a certain amount of Daybreak Cash, or get the monthly membership that gives you 500 daybreak cash per month, along with other things.
Another note worthy thing, this game requires a good internet connection. A bad one can result in many problems.

Design & Graphics

If you have a good PC, you can see the amount of effort that the developers put into the game. In all 4 continents there is an amazing amount of detail, with the environments, the bases and even things like vehicles.
Graphics however is a different matter. I can run the game fine on ultra, but I've seen many problems for other people. Running this game on high can give serious lag and Framerate drops. Also having a bad internet connection can affect the game badly.

UI [User Interface]

I found the in-game hud quite easy to follow. When taking damage, your health and shields appear at the bottom middle of the screen, right above your ability, and ammo. On your left you have a minimap, showing the local area. The top left part of the screen shows the chat, and the top right shows the kill chat. There's quite a few settings when scrolling through the options, nothing that was too hard for me to find. I didn't have any problems here.

Pros
- Highly Realistic
- Huge Worlds
- Dozens of player controlled battles
- Plenty of content
- Beautiful design
- Still gets updates

Cons
- Huge learning curve
- Highly graphic dependent
- Possible P2W elements
- Requires good internet connection

Final Recommendation

After getting the gist of it, this has become on of my F2P games. Sure, it ain't perfect, but hell is it fun. Diving into a huge battle, explosions all around me with guns blazing never felt more fun. If you can handle the learning curve, this can be one of the best MMO/FPS game ever made!

Final Verdict - 9/10.

It's like Battlefield 3, Command and conquer, and the mmo genre had a baby.
Planetside 2 is the beautiful offspring of a videogame three-way.

Don't do it. It will make every other 16v16/32v32 FPS feel like the kiddie pool.

Amazing game, it recently got the Construction update so now it is an MMORTSFPS = (Massive-Multiplayer-Online, Real-Time-Strategy, First-Person-Shooter)

If you played this game a year or even a month ago, I highly reccomend you play it now. A TON of things have changed and been improved and you have to try it out!

Huge learning curve on this game. Better to have someone to teach you tips here and there. Oh and get used to dying... like a lot... like alot alot ! :P During off peak hours can be boring but peak hours this game is hopping with lots of action. Constantly something happening. My new favourite vehicle is the harrasser. Well name says it all. :)))))

If you want a challenge and can take dying alot in the beginning it is a great game. I can't wait until I learn to fly !

I am going to say straight up that this game requires a lot of patience and maturity. You will not be instantly good. You will die, a lot, and you will find that the average lifespan of a soldier in this world is measured in mere seconds. You will be very frustrated and discouraged, and you will most likely ragequit on any number of occasions.

But I'm also going to say that you will be unlikely to play a game like this. You are not the super special elite soldier who can go Rambo through an entire army like in Wolfenstein. You are just another grunt who will end up bleeding and dying, just like every single other grunt. Because of that, the scales of fights you can find in this game are incredible. You can go from just one-on-one duels to 10v10 to 200+ epic battles in mere minutes. You will also find many moments that you can't call anything but glorious, but you'll also find those moments that are just sheer, unadulterated fun. You will have those epic moments of hot dropping out of a transport ship and turning imminent defeat to thundering victory, and you will also have those hilarious moments where you land a sticky grenade on an enemy who then runs screaming into the midst of his comrades, only to decimate the entire squad with the explosive glued to his forehead. Those moments are there, and they will always be there. If you want to have a lot of fun with this game, just ignore the monotony and frustration that you will find between the good moments.

I've played this game since launch ( I haven't used the steam client for it since 2013 ) and it is still one of the marvels of Massively Multiplayer gaming. This game presents combat on a scale unrivaled by any current title out on the market, and it's done this for 3 and a half years. There is no other game out right now that can simulate the strategic importance of manpower allocation, while simultaneously providing a great shooter experience. You can kiss your 5v5, 8v8, 12v12, 24v24, and 48v48 shooters goodbye because when it comes to sheer size the 450v450v450 over the 64 square kilometer maps of Planetside blow all these games out of the water, not to mention that the game also has a player base construction system as of a week ago, turning this game into the Massively Multiplayer version of a love child between CnC Renegade and the Battlefield franchise.

All praise aside the game still has issues, the new player experience is awful, the tutorial sucks, mostly because it no longer exists, and the game will not hold your hand beyond a short message each time you encounter a new aspect of the game. Due to the game's sheer size the game is riddled with bugs, thankfully the majority of the major ones have been fixed in the time since launch, but there are still a few stinkers here and there. The game game map's massive size also means that on off peak hours finding a fight can be difficult, but still possible on if you look hard enough.

So, do I recommend this game? Yes, if you are willing to endure the gauntlet of skill curve of Dark Souls and the level of tutorial of Dwarf Fortress. This game can easily be the best you've ever played, if you take the time to learn it.

Here's a few tips for new players:

Don't be discouraged by dying a lot, lots of people in a fight means you will get shot from everywhere. (Including your teammates if you aren't careful)

Start by playing a support class, (Medic and Engineer) this will allow you to contribute to the team without worrying about getting a ton of kills, and will help you learn how the battles flow so you can understand how to play the combat classes more effectively.

Join a squad! The game is an MMO, which means playing with other people is the mainstay of the game, good squad leaders will help you learn the game as well as find, or make good, fun, fights for the squad to participate in.

Commit at least 10 hours to the game before you decide to put it down. I know a lot of people think the game should sell itself in the first 30 min of gameplay, but this game almost never does, and if you put it down before you see the depth of the game you will have deprived yourself of one of the best Multiplayer experiences in the industry.

You'll hear a lot of complaints about this game: that it's not very newbie friendly, that it's full of casuals, that there are a lot of things to learn, that the shooting is difficult due a combination of recoil and long time to kill, that it feels pointless due to a lack of story and reards, that it's demanding on hardware, and that the graphics aren't anything special. All these complaints are, to some greater or lesser extent, true, but I still love this game. The scale is like nothing else I've ever seen: this is a pure PvP shooter where the server is an entire planet with thousands of players rather than a single battlefield with a few dozen players at most. Infantry, ground vehicle, and air vehicle combat are all seamlessly integrated with one another. It's free, and it's perfectly viable and enjoyable to play without ever paying a cent. It has a broad and very helpful internet subculture around it. There are three different factions to choose from, alike enough that skills learned in one faction will be useful in another but different enough that there are clear pros and cons to each. I recommend everyone give this game a chance. It's free, it does a lot of things well, and there is nothing else like it.

I was a supporter of this game for a good long while, and had enjoyed it up until I was screwed out of in-game upgrades by Customer Service. The game itself was fun, but the company that runs it is less than competent to handle the amount of complaints (or the quality, apparently) for that matter. Having been told that unless I had an exact date to a Certification-Line's investment I would not be reimbursed after I had lost it from a change in the Engineer's suit slot abilities, it leads me to wonder what other things this company would accept.

Play the game, but keep it away from your pockets.

Easily one of the best shooters (free or otherwise) out there!

(Hot tip: Only spend you Certification points on abilities, and not guns. Trust me, it makes it easier to get on the higher level player's level if you spend this game's version of XP on leveling instead of alternative weapons!)

Its a game that makes you feel important. You feel like you are fighting for someting. It gets you thinking on your feet. There are AAA FPS's that don't live up to the experience you will find in PlanetSide 2. Call Of Duty multiplayer doesn't make you feel like you are fighting a war, PlanetSide 2 gives you this experience. The option use vehicles adds more depth to the game. Its something that all FPS players should try for its unique experience.

Prepare to go on massive melee killstreak because large group of enemies is apparently extremely blind and deaf and cannot hear my ungodly chainsaw knife that is louder than a russian on CSGO

Wait for opportune time to rush into group of enemies

Run up to group

Teamkilled by a Chinese kid's grenade
