Om dette spillet

Unity of Command is an innovative and refreshing operational-level wargame that covers the entire 1942/43 Stalingrad Campaign on the Eastern Front. Playable from both the Axis and Soviet perspective, it strives to recreate the strategy, the forces involved and the general tension of that crucial period in World War II.

Experience the highly fluid, enormously large battles of maneuver in a turn-based strategy setting. Take command in this mobile, back-and-forth sort of war where logistics and poor weather are often the decider, and defeat and victory are sometimes just a mile, or a day, apart.

Unity of Command is strategic level "Panzer General" game with supply lines. Pretty much everything you do in this game is keeping your supply lines working while cutting off your enemy's supply lines. (within very tight turn limit).

AI in this game is pretty good, you are tied to move your divisions properly if you want to archieve objectives on timeline given.

Great game if you are lookin for "light" wargaming experience with rock-paper-scissors -feeling!

Impressive strategy game. You command either the Soviet or German forces on the European eastern front of WW2. The game is accurate to history reagarding the sequencing of Stalingrad, and a perfect way to carry out the battle as you may seem fit. But remember the game is just that: Stalingrad with surrounding skirmishes, and nothing but that.

The combat is comparable to Civilization V's: hexagons with finite movement for units. The main difference between Unity and Civ's combat systems, however, is the logistic behavior. Units have supply gauges that change with the availability of resources, toggled by supply line efficiency. Of course, if the enemy captures a section of your supply line, it will not be efficient for you! So a main component of the game's objective is supply line management, a category of logistics.

One might think that this game is simply strategy combat, and therefore boring. Within an hour of gameplay, that person can testify otherwise. The dynamic weather/landscape and intelligent AI kept me engaged for sure; the enemy always has something brewing in the pot. You can notice its strategy, often focusing on your weak and vulnerable units to find a path to your supply line. Other times it makes deliberate retreats when you do that same thing to them. It's truly captivating.

If you are interested in a microcosm of Civ V's combat and then some, this is the game for you. Nothing daunting, just casual strategy fun.

It's the dead of winter. Icicles hang from every rifle and tank barrel.

The cream of the Ostheer, ten armored divisions total, have sliced through the Russian lines like butter. Hitler laughs in scorn as the Slavic hordes are utterly crushed under Panzer treads. Onto Moscow!

But then-- disaster strikes. Somehow, the planets align and Lenin sends down a snowstorm from the grave. Mere miles from the Kremlin, the Soviets grind me to a ignominious halt. I shake my fists in rage. Thousands of Germans are ruthlessly bloodletted trying to cross the Oka, a mere puddle. And somehow, the river hasn't frozen. I can picture Stalin mocking me with a victory selfie with Zhukov (he does rock the mustache, though).

You know it's a good game when, after 120 hours, you still don't have the time to write a review. :-)

Before I say every positive things about this game, I have to say one thing:
The game's tutorial and manuals are ♥♥♥♥ing LAZY. They never tell you enough about the mechanics, they never specify how each mechanics would affect the units. So many things are untold abou this game in tutorial and manual that it makes player to give up the game entirely before they get the hang of it. The Devs should've included more thoughtful introduction to this game for sure. While the ones who developed might see it as "obvious," to people who are going into this game the ♥♥♥♥♥ that computer throws at the player is infuriating to say the least.

Now that's out of the way, don't let my rant about the tutorial make yourself hesitant to purchase this game. There are many "strategic" games available in Steam store, but there are so few that actually makes you think for turns. Most of the "strategic games" either encourages player to "turtle up" or go "berserk" (Yes, I'm looking at you Valkyria Chronicles and XCOM). However, neither strategy is viable in this game. You truly have to play in a way that you maintain both offense and defense so that you can spearhead to exploit enemy weakness and protect your supply lines. You know, like real war.

What makes this game truly unique is the importance of supply line. So many war games neglect the idea of logistics or oversimplify that application in Unity of Command is quite refreshing. As General Robert H. Barrow said, amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics. True that. It makes you think for everything. This game is literally for those who wants more than just tactical sim. This game is truly a masterful strategy game.

p.s. If you see the "negative" reviews, most of them are under 5 hrs. This ties in to my initial rant. Because the game doesn't tell you about it's mechanics to the player, those who couldn't understand thinks game moves at random, or things just don't make sense. It took me good 5~10 hrs to get complete grasp of the game, and now I can win most of the scenarios without any problem.

One of the most addictive games I've played in a while. Not too complicated to get into and enjoy. The real challenge comes from trying to work to a "brilliant victory" by capturing each objective within the alloted time.
Random weather conditions affect supply lines and movement distance. It's a nice mechanic that offers variation each time a map is played - but it can be frustrating when you've spent the past hour trying to capture Moscow in time and your reinforcements get bogged down in mud. AI reflects the strategy of the time, and is pretty ruthless when you leave supply lines unguarded.
Well worth buying, plenty of replay value.
