I bought this game on huge sale mostly because I am fancy of the sceneries and battles of ancient Japan.
Only to a second extent I realised that it was a porting from a mobile game. This significantly affects the gameplay. Unfortunately, scrolling the gamescreen with the mouse is not possible and you have to use a combination of mouse and arrows, which makes your experience confused and not exciting.
Moreover, microtransaction are a consistent part of the game and is quite hard to progress at an upper level if you are not wishing to pay extra.
Overall, this ain't an horrible game, the story is enjoyable and the mechanics of the game are clever and good, but some significant drawbacks push me to advise against the purchase.

Not the total war we deserved...

Total War Battles: SHOGUN was orginally a ios game, developed by Creative Assembly, now ported to steam.

Good
- Audio = Combat and background music sounds are decent.
- Two game modes = Campaign and skirmish
- Artworks = You can view the designs and artwork from the game via the menu.

Bad
- Microtransactions = Wouldn't be a sega game without microtransactions. Instead new units and factions DLC like previous titles, you can buy XP which is used to upgrade your buildings and units in the game within the in game store.
- Upgrades hidden behind microtransaction = See above.
- Poor graphics = Unit models and environments look poor and really show the ios roots of the game. Animations aren't great either.
- Poor Skirmish Mode = Basically you get 6 maps which which have limited objectives such as elimnate general or certain number of enmey units. Wish it at least had more maps and customisable game modes.
- No multiplayer = You can only play by yourself.
- No trading cards = Not a big problem but still...
- Limited variety of units = You get peasants, swordsman, samurai, spearman, calvary, archers, monks, musketters and cannons.
- No faction variance = You can't choose your faction and you face foes with the same units as you.
- Poor story = Although not really important in total war games, I found the story wasn't interesting at all.
- Poor map design = Maps are small and with idestructable terrain elements (ie trees, rocks) makes building your base unnecessarilyy cumbersome.
- Poor gameplay = Mix between base bulding and tile base combat both of which aren't that interesting.
- Can't adjust game speed

Fans of total war should stay the hell away from this game as it doesn't feel anything like it. For $6.49 I might as well save up for rome 1, medieval 1 or even shogun 1 which are all much better.
