Great braincracking-fingertwisting 4d planformer. 4d cause there is no up-down, left-right like in most 2d, there is no linear timeline also.

During the first hour I felt there wasn't much to this game. I almost put it down and cut my losses. However, I kept playing knowing that the game was progressing quickly. To my surprise some of the latter puzzles were VERY CHALLENGING. A few of them were quite mind bending. This game certainly made my head hurt. I'm glad I'd stuck with it.

Have you ever played Portal? Did you like it? And have you ever wondered how would it look in 2D, with pixelarty cartoony graphics and with other portals like resizing ones? Wonder no more and try this logical platformer game. The puzzles aren't totally easy and will make you scratch your head from time to time. The rooms are vast and there's a lot to discover. I really like this game's take on Portal ideas and mechanics and I recommend it.

A very interesting take on the sort of thing Portal had going, but in 2d. Enough of which to stand its ground as a unique game in the market :3. Would buy again.

Gateways: the one indie title that was criticized for being too alike to a AAA game. Gateways may seem off-putting because it feels like a 2D Portal, but don't let that keep you from getting this awesome game. There are many more mechanics than the other games of this type, with size-changing portals, time-travel portals, rotation portals, and, best of all, regular portals through an area. You place them down to solve puzzles, which were always challenging but never seemed impossible. The art direction was great, the music, not so much, but overall this was a good purchase. I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone.

2D pixel platformer using portals. There isn't really much of anything interesting in this game, even with the portal mechanics. For the price, it's OK, but it gets kind of boring and tedious.

Gateways initially seems like an 8-bit Portal platformer, but it grows to be so much more.

The story sorrounds a professor who has been trapped in his lab. He explores it, and in doing so recovers parts of his equipment, which lets him progress further. The initial gun fires simple point-to-point gateways, like Portal. But as more guns are unlocked, the game becomes more and more challenging and interesting, with Time travel gates, gravity reversal gates and so on.

The game doesn't take very long to complete, and I was able to solve the game first time without using any of the hints, but it still proves to be challenging enough in certain areas.

This game can be controlled by a controller, but I would reccomend against this, as using analog sticks it can be hard to accurately place the gates. Keyboard and mouse work much better.

The 8-bit graphics in this game are very nice. The map never looks particularly "static" in any way, with minor details

The music in this game is very nice. It's never too obtrusive and loud, and definitely adds to the atmosphere of the game.

There is a level editor (library>tools), and workshop integration so you can create and share your own maps. The level editor is easy to get a hang of, and the developers included an extra map which is available on the workshop.

I found no bugs while playing this game, and it never crashed on me. My only complaints are that the save points are a bit sparse, though. So if you die, you might have a long way to travel to get back.

Overall this is a great little platformer puzzle game, it's a bit short, but definitely worth playing.

Very Portal-inspired mechanics, but with additional functionalities of gun, including room rotation, growing/shrinking, etc. A lot of the puzzles are frustrating to the point where I was having to cheat a lot and look up solutions online. Still, would recommend.

Portal in 2D mit einem einzigen riesigen Level. Keine Ahnung was ich davon halten soll.

This game really does surprise you. It comes off as "portal, but in 2D, and minus the sense of humor." And well, it kind of is, but it does so much more. The puzzles get progressively harder and more complex as you get different guns, and the last sequence of puzzles before the end is kind of just completely brain-melting. There's a surprisingly high execution factor in some cases, as well. And this is only the normal difficulty. I've not played the game's "hard" mode but I doubt I'd be able to complete it if I did. The graphics are kind of ugly though, all things considered, but that's a minor knock against it.

You will hear a lot that this is mix of puzzle platformer and Portal, with an indie taste. But the game is original, and fun. Very simple mechanics but yet good puzzles presented to the player not too difficult, some require more thought than others and its really nice when you figure out on your own how to do it. But fear not, if you get stuck you can obtain the solutions right in the game and you can move on to clear the next level/puzzle. Lacking a bit of better sound effects and music, but those are still adequate to the game.

Gateways is the game Quantum Conondrum should have been: A fun, clever game that takes Portal-thinking to the next level thanks to the new portal types. A must buy for any Portal fan.

This is a very complex and intellectual puzzle game. I'm writing a short review for now because I'm busy with the holidays, but for the holiday sales this game is less expensive than the typical meal at McDonalds and if it looks like your kind of game then you'd better buy it.

A brilliant little metroidvania puzzler in the vein of portal. The story is mediocre, but this is a gem of gameplay.

Easily the best 2D puzzle game I've ever played.

Given the game-mechanics, it's impossible not to compare this game to (the puzzles in) Portal 2. The lack of a third-dimension makes the portal-only puzzles much easier than in Portal 2. However, Gateways also adds several game-mechanics not found in Portal 2, such as the ability to change gravity or travel backwards in time. The new mechanics are introduced continuously throughout the game, keeping the puzzles fresh and interesting. Additionally, they ensure the puzzles are challenging even to Portal-veterans.

My only complaint about the game is that it's so short (~4 hours of gameplay). However, when that's my only complaint about your puzzle-game, you're in very good shape, especially for only $5.

Awesome game! At first it's simply Portal in 2D, but then there are "gateways" of size change, time travel and gravity change; at the same time you can use a flashlight and a mirror to activate light sensors. Quite a brainf...
