With all the events and reworks, leveling up to 150 has become easy as clicking a few buttons and monster grinding for several hours. It has some character storylines beyond the basic quest system, participating in guilds, party quests, boss fights, and even spin-off modes go beyond the spam-and-slash 2D MMO that it presents itself off to be. However, it gets highly repetitive in my opinion and unless you want to stare at some flashy sprite animations, feel overpowered with your one-hit-KO attacks, or are playing with other people, you start to feel tired pretty quickly.

Maplestory is not a bad game, but I would spend time elsewhere.

With the game constantly under new and exciting updates, I look forward to everything from the in game cutscenes and blockbusters, to the unique skills each class uses. With a variety of servers to choose from. I rarely find myself bored in this MMORPG. And it isnt pay to win either. Alot of players have departed from this game. However it still remains very popular, which is pretty impressive for a game to be around for more than 10 years now. Playing this game with a group of friends has probably been the most fun I've had. People say this game is too easy, but in my oppinion they are wrong. In a past event that changed this game majorly, Maplestory only took a turn for a more traditional MMORPG, relying on farming to get more stronger. What I mean is that the game is no longer based on your level but more based on how hard you hit (DPS).
In conclusion, Maplestory is still the game it was before, and with the new reboot server, old players are starting to be seen returning and I really hope this game continues to grow in popularity and enjoyment.

Terrible. Asks if you want a tutorial and I click yes but it looks like it skipped it as I don't know how to do anything. Filled up inventory by pressing random buttons until I found what worked for pickup. But I know have all these monster cards. What do I do with them? Can't equip them into skill slot. I have gear to equip but can't equip. Click and drag does not work even though I am the right level and class.

Teach people how to play the game.

Of the 300 ish games I own, I have only reviewed 7 of them (then again I've only played maybe 10~20 percent of my collection as well). Maplestory has to be one of the oldest games I've played in my library that I've played on and off far before steam had connections with Nexon and the 699.0 hours that has been logged into my steam account. So how many hours have I actually invested in this game? Since I was a freshmen in High School, when the first year anniversary was just released in the North American servers.

Back in those days, we had to roll a dice for our stats. There was no redistributions of stats when you reached the job selection. If you went over the level to get that class change, well you are out of luck cause you are not going to get those points. *waves granny cane* back in my days ... we got our butts whooped and our asses handed to us as we spent hours on endless grinding to gain a level and grab rare and strong items.

Maplestory is very much player friendly now, so much so that every character is extremely over powered and can kill monsters ten or even twenty levels above them. It isn't a game of challenge, pooring your blood and soul into a character to make it perfect, but the pure insanty of seeing the extremely high damage floating in the air, and cover the entire screen as all them cute/cool looking monster die at your feet in one over powered swoop. *MUAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!*. It is truly over 9000.

Will I ever quit? Probably not. I will most likely always go back for the anniversary now and then, or when they release a new character/class/event/update/etc. I liked the sadistic, making one lose sleep and cry in the darkest of hours, challenges the game once hand, and enjoy the havoc one can wreck in a few seconds. However, the overpowerness and easy level gaining had ruin one thing I loved about maplestory: the party quest. They are practially non-existant now. Oh well, time to go back in see the entire race of horny mushroom go extinct.

First a little background

I have played maplestory since early 2006 and I've kept playing since then. I have 6 level 200+ characters amd will continue to make more. I am an MMORPG fanatic and I really enjoy the 2D side-scolling games. I recently got Maplestory on steam to avoid using the horrendus Nexon client.

This game has a lot of grinding. A lot of grinding. Much like WoW, in Maplestory you constantly grind and are trying to level up your character to get better gear, a new job advancment, etc. That is one of the aspects I love the most about this game. In a game such as WoW you get new abilities every 4-5 levels depending on what level you are, in Maplestory you get things called job advancments. Basically, you have a certain moveset with certain abilities, you can upgrade these abilites until you reach a certain level, and then you get a new set of abilities. This is one of my favorite aspects of Maplestory and it really makes it unique. The player base in Maplestory is also awesome, everyone on here is extremely nice and it can be really fun to just talk to other players rather than grind. There are many other things for you to do besides grind of course; You can do "dungeons" where you are sent to a certain area for 10-15 levels and do quests for the NPCs there and have a lot of fun learning the lore, you can also fight massive bosses with other players (this is much like a raid in WoW). There are so many fun things to do in Maplestory which is why I have played the game for so long and will continue to do so.

I used to play this game a lot back from 2007-2009. Game has changed a lot and I have mixed feelings about it. Some new classes are cool and I guess they implemented a storyline as well. Disappointed on how easy it is just to even reach 1-30. Feels like they dumbed the game down and made it look pretty. Overall, the nostalgia factor is still kind of there, gameplay is smooth and simple and it seems like there's still a community here. Get it if you love MapleStory like I did way back when, but personally I probably won't keep this installed for long.

Used to play the game years ago, when Maplestory wasn't in steam, but Reboot and nostalgia pulled me back into the game. This game is for you if you love grinding, but thats pretty much all there is with this game. Socialization has deteriorated in this game because of faster levelling, faster transportation, and the evaporation of casual players. Unless you have friends to play with this game, you are mostly by yourself. I've never been into MMORPGs due to the grinding aspect, but this game has made want to re-evaluate what I am doing with my life. The only accomplishment I feel from this game is seeing large numbers in the damage I deal to mobs and bosses.
