“Be a hunter they said, kill monsters they said! No one ever mentioned something about picking flowers!”

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing represents a solid action role-playing game, based on Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire slayer. It has a charming atmosphere in combination with an interesting storyline and lovely characters, set in a gothic–noir universe resembling the 19th century Eastern Europe, that is filled with original monsters, magic and weird technology.

The protagonist and his delightful ghostly companion have a wry sense of humor and contribute to the game’s atmosphere with many snappy dialogues. Especially the details in form of allusions to certain films, comics and the original book by Bram Stoker will keep you entertained.

The only shortcoming of this game is the rather stiff combat system, which would have needed more attention to establish a more fluent hack & slash feeling.

Fun fact: Lady Katarina has stolen my heart and she is still refusing to give it back to me, mumbling something about the key to divinity.

To conquer all achievements of the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, you will most likely spend around 120 hours. You have to play the single-player campaign several times, due to challenges like ‘But they are so cute’ and ‘I’m the Hardcorest’.

There are no multiplayer achievements.

‘Carnage Incarnate’ will take approximately 80 hours to complete, because it requires massive grinding in the scenario levels. I recommend using the Orichalcum Mines for this achievement; each run will net you around 500 kills in a couple of minutes.

Should you have any questions about the different achievements, please feel free to contact me.

Achievement difficulty: 6 of 10

Common:
- Singleplayer [+2]

Special:
- But they are so cute! [+1]

Genre - Steampunk/Supernatural Action RPG
I am a massive fan of the Diablo games and enjoy Path of Exile. I got this game on sale and randomly chose to give it a try. I have been through the whole game on normal using one character (I had the DLC to expand the choice). The game is enjoyable and a decent length. I spent 15 hours re-visitng some sections and fully exploring most maps. The humour is good and the dialogue with your ghostly companion keeps the story flowing. There is a hardcore mode if you are that way inclined and different difficulty settings. At a couple of points in the game it allows you to do tower defence, which can break up the game a bit. I have found out you can also take your level 30 character (max level) into the next game. So I will definately be getting that at some point.

How to begin...

The first impression of the game wasn't that great. A rather generic forest area with expectable enemies didn't get my hopes up too high, but after around an hour the game gained a lot in both presentation and interesting content. For around 7-8 hours afterwards you are in for a great ride with excellent graphics, music and quests. Your companion really adds to game and lifts it above most Diablo clones. Sadly at a certain point the game turns into a pure grind fest and the content runs thin, very thin. The final battle is over the top hard and while it's certainly finishable, nothing in the game prepares you for it.

A lot of great ideas and lovely designed areas will keep you entertained for a few hours and if you can forgive the game a rather rushed/forced ending, I'd say it's a really good hack 'n slash RPG.

Pro:
- Great design
- Atmospheric music
- Interesting skill system
- Sarcastic and entertaining companion

Con:
- Too short and yet it still feels lengthy in the last 1/4 of the game
- Crashes occasionally

An extremely addicting and visually stunning ARPG. Solid graphics and an extremely well designed world with a steampunk-noir feel. If you're a fan of Torchlight, PoE, Diablo (especially if you were left less than satisfied with Diablo 3) then this should be right up your alley.

The character development is pretty unique, in a very good way. Each skill offers various "powerups" which you can use during fights to better suit whatever challenge you face. This makes for a very fun combat system that I would love to see more of in the future. Besides skills, you also have the ability to use XP to purchase auras, tricks, and perks. Your companion, Katarina, has her own attributes as well as unique skills which you can select as she levels with you. This all combines to make for one of the most customizable games I've played in a while.

For this quality and the playtime which it offers this game is well worth the purchase, especially if you factor in the replay value which the DLC's bring with their addictional classes. This game seems to go on sale fairly frequently, so if you can manage to catch it during one of those times you'll be getting more than your moneys worth.

A very atmospheric, dark-fantasy/steampunk Action-RPG.

I wasn't sure about buying it, as ARPGs aren't my favourite (though i really enjoyed Diablo 2....3 was okay but..idk...it missed something), but i didn't regret it.
Actually, it's pretty addictive and well done.
You play the son of the famous Van Helsing, accompanied by the ghost of Lady Katarina, which will aid you in your battle against werewolves, robots and all sorts of other monsters.

The world is dark and with lots of steampunk elements in it, very detailed and atmospheric.
As you progress, you also hear some nice dialogues between the two main characters, which are pretty humorous sometimes. The game is also filled with some pop-culture-references (Lord of the Rings, The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, as to name only 2).

Though it has some minor flaws and might not be as polished as bigger productions, it's a nice and well done game, which i would recommend to anyone who likes ARPGs.
