The game is kind of a mixed bag. The npc dialogs really great and funny. There is a LOT of easter egg references to other games and movies in the game wich i find great. Graphics are avarage, nothing too facy but it does its job. But the asthetics are way above avarage, the game has a certain uniqe style wich i find really great. Where the game really lacks is in the core gameplay mechanics. The fights are really booring and simple. You just left click and wait to the enemy health bar slowly disappear or just kite the enemies to defeat them wich is lame. There are not many skills or abilites wich can put you off from the combat wich by reaching toward the end will be sickenly boring. Many times i found graphical gliches and camera bugs where i only can saw the roof uncovering my charater in combat. Overall its an OK game, not bad but not good either.

Personally i dont recommend this game. But! It was discounted soo many times by now for dirt cheap it can really worth a shot for the dialogs and easter eggs alone. /killer rabbit best rabbit :) /

I like the game, but I have encountered a major problem with it.
I play the game with 360 controller, I play every game this way, dont tell me otherwise, it is a personal thing.
Okay back to the topic, so whenever I send my companion back to town for shopping, the game freezes. It seems the game isnt fixed yet up to this point. I mean wtf. People have been yelling about this annoying bug since the release.
You can search google with some keywords like:

Cant believe I bought 3 episodes of this game already.
DEVELOPER PLZ fix this issue
THANK YOU !!!!

Although this game is not terrible I found myself extremely bored and not enjoying what the game presented me. The enemies although cool in design at first get very bland quickly, especially in the later portion of the game. I'm not an expert on ARPG's and don't play too many of them so forgive me if I'm missing something really big but the game was very underwhelming in my opinion.

Setting/Story:
The game seemed outdated when I saw it, and graphically is, but I was drawn by the steampunk and demonic/occult influences. And the levels and characters really show a depth of artistic direction. It provides a very varied level setting and enemy types, which surprised me for such an old RPG. The story was very well thought out, the voice acting suberb. While I mostly hurried through the dialogue, the humorous and quirky banter was captivating. The setting and story so far is perfect, miles better than Diablo 3, of which nothing was memorable.

Cost:
+ $5 on steam sale
- You need to spend extra for DLC

Fun:
+ The skill trees/stat buildup/perks are varied and interesting for the main character
+ The hunter class can be specced creatively into multiple effective options
+ Multiplayer
+/- 2 other classes but you must buy them
- Support ghost not as interesting to level

Note on Final Cut Edition:
There is a Final Cut edition, which condenses all three Van Helsing games into one, with the six classes of the final game. I only bought the first game to check it out and would recommend you do the same. For me the joy of playing these games comes from the skill tree and forging your own build, so by playing each game separately and not as one whole, you get to start fresh at every new game, which is much more fun and varied than being stuck in one class for 3 games. You get the final cut for free if you redeem it after you buy all three games so it is the best option anyhow.

I'm probably going to get the second game soon and will update this review on how it goes. For a $5 game, it gives me a much better experience than Diablo 3. I'm quite excited that I found this gem actually - the rating was mixed and below satisfactory. Perhaps its was that at a full launch price.

Well it can be fun to play and the writing isn't terrible the game can be somewhat unstable, may just be certain setups that run into instability but it can get rather annoying, as it has a demo available I heavily advise running the demo for at least a few hours before considering buying.
The defaulting to gamepad if one is plugged in may annoy some as might the kb/m UI which is all over the place, the gamepad UI is slightly off no matter what on my 16:10 setup so I thought a bar in a cetain mission was full when it had a bit left.
I personally have had several instances where it stopped registering my gamepad as plugged in and would't accept any input requring alt-f4-ing (luckily it saves frequently), when reforging items I've ran into a lot of crashes.

Outside all the bugs/crashes and other issues the gameplay is decent for a diablo-like or whatever that subgenre is called, the voice acting isn't terrible and the story works.
You spend most of the game running around murdering hordes of enemies in search of ever slightly better gear with that minor stat increase you need to kill them that bit faster.
If you've played diablo or any of the games like it you know what to expect from the gameplay more or less and it's not anywhere near the worst of its type.

So yeah, it's a fine game if you're lucky enough that it isn't completely unstable for you.

My detailed review about The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing :)

Graphic 7/10

+polyphonic style
+beautifully designed environments
+some wonderfully bizarre Monster Design

-weak effects
-here and there ugly textures
-from nearby, low-detail figures

Sound 8/10

+atmospheric music
+first class speakers...

-...but only in English
-unspectacular sounds of battle

Balance 9/10

+four levels of difficulty
+rarely unfair
+fair fined for deaths
+Hardcore mode

-Boss fights are generally too simple

Atmosphere 10/10

+unconsumed scenario with influences from horror and steampunk (what I really like)
+entertaining dialogues
+funny minor character

Gameplay 9/10

+classic hack'n'slay control
+Customizable Buttons
+clearly arranged inventory

-only two active skills can be used at the same time

Extent 5/10

+huge game world
+12 hours campaign
+Co-op

-less replayability
-no randomly generated areas
-Co-op Mode does not work for me

Level Design 9/10

+many secrets and allusions
+sympathetic protagonists
+Boss Monsters with Trophies rewards
+rare, but entertaining tower defense game

-boring collection quests

Character System 9/10

+free development of the Van Helsing Junior and Catharina
+Power Ups for each skill
+unlockable bonuses by high fame
+Tricks and auras

-No different classes without DLC

Combat System 7/10

+Enemies and Bosses with their own strengths
+Catharina got three fighting styles
+Focus on melee and ranged combat

-weak Feedback result
-often unclear fights

Items 7/10

+lots of magical weapons and armor
+legendary items
+Appreciation by essences
+Enchant of Items

-low optical diversity in equipment
-only three types of weapons
-no special items for Catharina

All in all this is a great game to play and if you like Diablo and other hack'n'slay's,than this is the perfect game for u. I also recommend the other games of the Van Helsing series. (maybe the Co-Op will work for you)

If you have any suggestions to improve the review let me know, and if you find any grammatical mistakes let me know too. Im not that good in english.

Points 80/100

Generally, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing appears to me as a fun production, but a little misguided. At times it is extended like a big hack & slash in which we play for weeks or even months - but it is not. It's pleasant, climatic, well-sounding and truly impressive-looking action game, little sophisticated, but without much problem, able to keep it with you for several hours. I can't stop thinking how cool it could be if it hadn't devoted as much time and resources on masking her and dressing in robes "game similar to Diablo" ... which wasn't needed because its main strength lies elsewhere and it had to focus on. If instead of extensive character development, loot system and crafting they had been devoted to improving combat mechanics and creating more decent plot, Van Helsing could be a really good game. But it is not, unfortunately. I admit it with pain, because I liked it for the ambience and Katarinas jokes. It is simply bearable. However, spending 15 euros (5 while discount) on it, isn't the worst idea, especially if u are fed up with more or less infantile fantasy, which offers us ARPG games. Well, also if one would like to play in a slightly different scenery - just because the authors managed to create it gloriously.

If you played Diablo 3 and thought it was to easy, play this. If you played Torchlight 2 and thought it looked too cartoonish for an ARPG, play this. If you played Path of Exile and wanted to spend money instead, play this. If you have no friends, play this and not get angry at multiplayer bugs.

So I bought this game because it was on sale and I'd been wanting it for quite some time. I've unlocked the first two areas and have now hit lv 11 after map completion in both areas. My thoughts so far:

The skill system is neither as balanced nor as customizable as I thought it would be, and the combat is what really put me off.

Monsters don't level with you (which was to be expected), and when entering an area for the first time, monsters are hard to beat. Once you've progressed through the map and levelled up, it gets easier. However, a big issue I have with the game is that it throws monsters at you in abundance. You really can't help but walk into up to three packs that combine into 10-20 (and sometimes even more) monsters, and even when you are overlevelled for that area, they are often deadly. If the area is crammed and you aren't able to use the "run away, attack, run away, attack"-method, you're dead. Which makes the game utterly frustrating and on top of that boring, because you keep doing the same thing over and over.
I had immense trouble completing the second area and went back to the first one just for fun. I one-shot most of the monsters, and the only trouble I was presented with was large packs forming one giant group of monsters. Managable at this point, but still hard.

What really bothers me about this is that it feels like they didn't put any thought into the combat/levelling system and just put a lot of monsters of the same level into an area. There is literally no middle ground between being able to one-shot and running for your life.

In the first area I still thought "this is only hard because I don't have the right set of skills yet", but after several hours of constantly dying despite a proper build for my Hunter, I have to say I don't enjoy the game anymore. I doubt I'll ever finish it.

Incredibly good game, but couldn't solve its 'incredible' random crash problem with the numerous ways suggested over the internet. (On an offline game, I have no idea how much its buggy on the multiplayer)
Game crashes so often that it even didn't let me finish find the mayor quest.
Waste of so much potential.
If you're an RPG and hack'n'slash fan buy it, play it and if its not crashing every damn 8 mins you're good to go ^^
If you keep getting those crashes, get a refund immediately.

Well, I have found that after choosing many games by the good reviews that reviewers tend to be a very picky lot. Many of the games that have great ranking are simply awful. the ones that get between 70% and 80 usually find me at least liking them. It turns out after many years of casual gaming I dont like most of the games that are highly rated. This game is charming, fun, doesnt take itself to seriously, and has in my opinion very good characters and gameplay. Rotten tomatoes gave it a 72% I think, I give it a 9.5. its a fun game! like games should be.....good guys and bad guys, none of this always bad against worse guy.

Ah, now this was a good game, the story progression is done really really well, the graphics are amazing! The levelling up system and companion all work well with each other. This is a really good game, only negative point I have to mention is that the other classes are DLC you have to buy and even if you do not have the DLC for it items still drop for those classes -_- so it other words you can get a legendary weapon and be all excited about it and then you see it’s for a class you don’t even own -_- . Other than that awesome game, great side quests and choices that come back at you later on and a decent final boss, I was not expecting to be fighting a ***********-boss in the final battle in a Helsing game. 4/5!!! Good game! Buy now! Play now!!!

Fantastic game, high replayability, witty dialogue, and the first ARPG that I could comfortably play with a gamepad.

I had a lot of fun with this game. So much that I bought the next two outright. Having a lot of fun with the second installment, and expect the same from the third.

I had no problems in my playthrough, other than the controller support isn't 100% great (some parts of the interface are better in the kb/m version--as they swap out the entire interface when you have a controller plugged in).

9/10, I plan on playing it again.
