GMS catches a lot of ♥♥♥♥ for being very basic and highlighting it's drag and drop building, but with unity's bizarre new licensing, (and difficult learning curve) GMS is an excellent choice for platformers and 2d games.... Althought I'd wait for a sale to buy pro. I think I picked it up for 30, maybe 50 on sale.

It's an extremely powerful engine that's also user friendly and easy to pick up and learn.

Used to be good, but now it's awful. Lots of unnecessary account creation red tape has been added if you simply want to generate a playable build now.

This is an excellent piece of software which is very helpful to beginner Games developers.

I was introduced to this software through college education, and have used it in my spare time since, creating small and fun games.

This software allows people to create many different types of games, and some games created within GameMaker have become commercial successes, such as Hotline Miami and Undertale.

The beauty of GameMaker is it has built in variables and a thoroughly detailed user document which explains all of the different functions and capabilities perfectly.

If you are a beginner programmer, or a hopeful games developer, I would definitely recommend this software!

This is great but it keeps crashing when I test a simple 3 sprite room. Only 2 sprites are drag-and-drop. The other one does not do anything. Halp

Recommended! This software is very simple and easy to use. Most people don't understand that the basics of making a game requires elbow grease. I have started out my game with another developer in the works. Hopefully it will be successful. I even have my first teaser up in my artwork page. PS don't run this on a toaster. If anything stick to the original quake games

Great Game Engine.
-Includes Drag & Drop method of making games for someone who don't want to learn code, but he can't accomplish everything what Code can.

For making better and powerful games I recommend using Code, not Drag & Drop.

With this software you can make any game like on the market (2D game), just need some skills and commitment for programming games.

I've been using Gamemaker since before it was aquired by YoYoGames. GameMaker 6 was my first version and I've been using it faithfully ever since. Its a great entry level game engine. Easy to use and easy to understand. Helps you understand programming better once you get past the Drag and Drop actions.

Some mainstream games were made with GameMaker. Like Risk of Rain... Death Worm... and more. Some people say GameMaker isnt a serious game devlopment tool, but I heavily disagree. With the right usage, it can be a really powerful platform. Especially when you start taking advantage of GML, DLL files, INI files, and its Steam intergration with Achivements and Items.

GameMaker:Studio even has the ability to export games for OSX, Linux, Android and iOS.

GameMaker: Studio is a really great entrance to both making video games, and programming in general. When I first got it I had no programming knowledge at all, and this was a great learning experience. GameMaker lets you start out by using drag and drop programming, which is a very simple way to create a basic game with no prior knowledge. Once you've got that down, you can use the included tutorials or find one of many online guides. By using gamemaker I learned many game engine concepts like finite state machines and A* pathfinding. I also became familier with a lot of more general programming topics like data structures, variable scope, and more. From game maker I had a much easier time learning to use other engines like Unity, and other programming languages like Java Script and Python.
In addition to the great learning possibility, you can actually create some pretty professional games using this. Spelunky, Hotline Miami, Risk of Rain, and Gunpoint were all made using GameMaker, along with many others. If you're totally new to programming, it can take a fair amount of time, creativity, and effort to get to that point, but in my mind its always quite fun and rewarding.
Long story short, get it. It has a free version, and the full version isn't all that expensive. You can learn alot and are able to create professional games.

Good app, if you buy free, it has a splash screen, but is the best coding language I use.

It's got the bare essentials of what you need to make a game, and works fine I suppose. Just not really my thing. Can't give it a bad rating just because I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥ and can't learn to code to save my life. 5/5 for doing exactly what it advertises I guess.

I love this software, I sucked and still suck at coding, yet this software is so simple and easy to use that I can begin to start creating games. I honestly don't know what I would do without this software if I had the urge to create games, and it is Free, who doesn't love free game or in this case, Gamemakers!
