Half Minute Hero's premise is pretty unique and the game actually plays around with it really well. I personally think the artwork and upgraded graphics are awful but the original sprites remain a welcome option. Worth a buy, especially if it's on sale.

very buggy
If you have corrupted save data, it's near impossible to do anything about it. The way the game is coded, deleting the save file just makes it even worse.

DONT LET MY PLAYTIME FOOL YOU, I played the original game on PSP and loved it, and after discovering this game was available for steam, i had to buy it.
Its a definitive upgrade from the psp version.
For the true half minute hero experience, play Hero 30 on any style you want, and the rest on the retro style as it restores the original games instead of what they did in the neo cartoon style
Hero 30: The story is about a hero who arrives at a kingdom and its immediately asked to kill some monsters outside the castle, later an evil lord appears and casts the spell of destruction, which will destroy the world in 30 seconds, after failing the goddess of time offers him her assistance in exchange for money, allowing him to turn the clock back 30 seconds as long as you find a statue. its a fast paced rpg parody which comprises most Rpg tropes in every level
Evil lord 30: Not really evil just wants to help her lover Millenia, the game plays like a Real time strategy game with rock paper scissors mechanics
Princess 30: A princess who goes on a quest to find out who wants to kill her father, armed with a crossbow, soldiers who will do anything for her. and a personality disorder when she holds her crossbow, has to complete missions before her 30 second curfew runs out, the game plays as a 2d shoot em up
knight 30: Unlocked after completing the first 3 modes since this happens 200 years after princess 30. After the time goddess is killed by the big bad of the story (Who has been present in every story of this game) since no heroes appeared to defeat the evil lords, it seemed everything was lost, you play as a weak knight who was revived by a sage and your mission is to find the other 3 heroes, but is not gonna be easy since evil rules the world, and your only hope is a spell the sage knows but needs 30 seconds to cast it, your job is to protect him until the time runs out
Hero 300: the finale of the game, immediately after knight 30, the ultimate evil lord is revived, existance is beginning to disappear and is the job of the hero to recruit the other heroes and finish this once and for all.
The game has a nice ammount of replay value, finding new ways to beat levels, or the secret path exclusive to super mega neo climax ultimate boy edition, well written and actually funny dialogue
The music is AMAZING, go and listen to some of its songs like the main theme, The hero arrives, To the high heavens, Melody of Happiness, Casablanca. This soundtrack is amazing

It'll make you laugh. It'll make you cry. It'll make you spill juice on your good pants.

Half-Minute Hero plays like a normal RPG on speed: Each map has you grind, get new gear, and fight a big bad boss, with each RPG taking about only 3 to 5 minutes. There are plenty of different maps with branching paths and titles to challenge to go through maps different ways.

Unlike the 360 version, it comes with Evil Lord 30, which is a top-down beat'em'up where you summon monsters to beat up people, Princess 30 where you play a shoot'em'up under a very strict 30 second royal curfew, and Knight 30 where you protect your sage for 30 seconds against monsters. All of these is more than reason enough to pick up this game if you are even remotely interested by the premise.

More a puzzle game than an RPG. Balance speed vs. grinding vs. money management to solve each stage, contains 99% of the content of all other versions of the game... probably the "ultimate" variant. A crazy game which has some silly moments and a barrage of replay value given the multiple awards, unlocks, and branches each stage might come complete with.

A speedy game deserves an equally-quick review, no?

A game in 8-bits that doesn't feel like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ retro game. Everything on the game goes faster than lighting (no pun intended), and there are a lot of references. A lot of stages to play, 4 long stories to complete, one hell of a final battle, and a little Challenge mode if you have the balls, all with great music, and non-8bit mode for people that don't like them.

It's at 1,74€ right now. And I can tell you, it's worth more.
