"Edmund McMillen made a ton of great web games before his runaway success with Super Meat Boy. This collection includes many of his earlier works!"

INTRODUCTION
First of all I want to say that I am a big fan of Edmund McMillen and his work. The games in The Basement Collection are pretty interesting and they are worth a look, even when most of them are free, but it is obvious that buying this collection is meant to support McMillen a bit.

PRO
The bonus content is really nice, especially for fans. I really enjoyed it. The Basement Collection is a good idea for people who did not play or know the flash games McMillen started with. They are true classics, which made him famous. You should have played them at least once. There is many content to unlock by finishing the games, which can be either fun or...

CONTRA
...really annoying. The games are programmed in flash and you can guess it: they are pretty laggy. Many of the games are platformers and you have to jump precisely. Due to lags and bad controls your game experience can be quiet frustrating. Not to mention that the games can not motivate you enough to actually finish them with those lags and controls.

CONCLUSION
I have very mixed feelings about The Basement Collection. With the bad controls and the lags it is nearly unplayable and annoying. If you are interested in the bonus content, supporting McMillen and/or just want to test the games, it is worth the $3.99. If you expect many hours of fun and games that last longer than a few hours you will waste your money. The Basement Collection can be fun for a day or can frustrate you for a day. Then it will gather dust... in your basement.

Rating: 37/100

EDIT: This review should not tell you strictly wether or not you should buy this collection. As I said above, I had a very mixed experience with this collection and since there is only thumbs up or down and my experience was more bad than good, I gave this collection a thumbs down. I just wanted to clear up important things you should know, before you buy this collection. And a very important thing is, if you even like some of these games, since some people found them rather annoying. Some games really are interesting in the first few minutes and later you find yourself quitting because of boredom and/or frustration. In the comments you can see people who did not experienced any lag and had fun with this collection, which is a perfect example of what I am trying to say; after you read this review, read other reviews or have a look in the discussions, watch gameplay and see if you will like this collection, it's up to you.

You're not likely going to like all the games in this collection, but you're going to find something you love.

Aether is a thoughtful and beautiful journey, Spewer is a delightful and inventive puzzle game, Time ♥♥♥♥ has a disjointed and anxious charm, and it's cool to see Meat Boy's origins. The other games included were weaker titles for me. Grey Matter didn't communicate its complexities to the player very well, Triachnid was interesting, but ultimately not fun, and Coil is a noble experiment that doesn't really entertain.

But here's the thing: You can like half of these games (maybe not the same ones as me) and still have a great time with the basement collection.

A lot of these games can be found online, but fans of McMillen's twisted art style will probably enjoy all the unlockable concept art, comics, etc.
