About the Game

Guacamelee! Gold Edition is a Metroid-vania style action-platformer set in a magical Mexican inspired world. The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters.

Guacamelee! builds upon the classic open-world Metroid-vania style of games, by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and cooperative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. The game also blurs the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves useful and necessary for both of these.

Travel through a mystical and mysterious Mexican world as a Luchador using the power of your two fists to battle evil. Uncover hidden wrestling techniques like the Rooster Uppercut, and Dimension Swap to open new areas and secrets.

Key Features

  • Use combat moves for both fighting enemies and platforming challenges
  • Swap between multiple overlapping dimensions (World of the Living and the World of the Dead)
  • "El Infierno" level expansion. Brave the fires of El Infierno and prove yourself in a series of challenges to unlock powerful new costumes for Juan and Tostada
  • Player costumes! Swap costumes to change the attributes of your Hero, and obtain new achievements
  • Steam Achievements, Leaderboards, Cloud Save, and Big Picture Mode
  • Trading Cards
  • Create new custom costumes and share these with others via Steam Workshop
  • Drop in/out 2-Player local Co-operative play for the entire story

This game is great. It has a wonderful Metrovania level design, unique graphics, great music and a twisted sense of humour. The gameplay is really challenging on all levels and the checkpoint system makes it perfectly fair. If you like beat 'em ups and/or platformers you have to give it a try. This game is a true gem :)

I was really surprised by this Game. I got it with a Humble Bundle and though "Mexican Wrestler-Platformers" are not really my thing. But the Sound, the Artstyle and the Gameplay are just fun. I could not stop playing.
Great Game!

This game is the buenoest. I love it so much. Drinkbox is a great developer with a flair for really colorful visual design. (Play Mutant Blobs Attack in case you missed it!!) Also I have a "thing" for Dia de la Muerta stuff, so Guacamelee was a no-brainer. Game sat in my library forever because I didn't have time to play it. It's awesome. Stylish, fun, challenging. A couple of the jumping puzzles are just a *bit* too frustrating, AKA no bueno. And I'm not sure how I feel about all the boss fights. But these are quibbles. I beat the game on normal just in time for the Ultimate Edition's launch on Steam. Also don't miss the Workshop stuff. You can reskin the main character as He-Man, the Punisher, etc. Arriba!

That game is so so nice. Diferent skills, costumes and abilits and very nice i love it and i think it's worht to buy it. When you come on one of the quest you make enable to go in 2 different portals. Sometimes it's make you a bit angry cause you can't do something but it's still nice to play it :D

☺ Good Pacing.
☺ Smooth controls (Note: Played with an XBox Controller).
☺ Great style.
☺ Humour and tributes to gaming.

☹ Sidequests.

Recommended for fans of action platformers.

Guacamelee! is a metroidvania style platformer bursting with Mexican flavour as you play a farmhand turned Luchador through beautiful and colourful environments as he try's to rescue the Governors Daughter and attempts to keep the worlds of the living and the dead from combining into one.

You'll start off knowing your basics, how to brawl and jump around and steadily become introduced to new enemies requiring different tactics and new skills to help you along your way. The pacing is great, just as you begin to master a technique the game introduces a new ability and a new set of challenges to overcome. By the end of the game, you'll be weaving all of your abilities together, evading traps and fighting enemies from two dimensions through some challenging but fair levels. The controls are solid and the animations are very fluid allowing you to chain combo's together seamlessly whether defeating enemies or manoeuvring through the world.

The only slight quibble I had with the game (and certainly not enough that it dampened the experience) were a couple of sidequests, complete with ! Questclamation marks, which while they could have been poking fun...they seemed a little out of place and ruined the lovely flow the game otherwise has.

The main game is a decent length for a first run through, clocking in at around 6 hours for me. On top of that, there are a handful of secrets still left to discover and some genuinely tough challenges to attempt to beat, adding to the value.

A recommended and enjoyable game from start to finish. Squeeze into your latex trousers, dust off your mask and get in the ring!

Guacamelee is a platforming luchadorean adventure where you must rescue your senorita bonita from the devious and hellish Calaca.

I fully completed the game, with all 60 achievements, in 20 hours. The game was incredibly fun. During the normal playthrough, the keys move and feel great, and the abilities are all super fun and responsive and fitting. The bosses were interesting, and the game was satisfying.

After completion, I enjoyed going around, completing the area and the zones, which was so enjoyable I decided to just complete the entire game again in Hard mode!

Hard mode, however, was a surprise, as parts of it were genuinely hard! Usually, as a longtime gamer, I'll find hard mode to simply be "normal" level of difficulty, but in Guacamelee the bosses and, later on in the last zones, even the mobs, are incredibly challenging, which again gives a satisfying edge for further completion.

I'd highly recommend this game at any price, but as it's an older game it will undoubtedly be on sale soon, so ensure you pick up this very fun and engaging title when it is!
