NOW GET TO STORMING THOSE CASTLES!

Previously Updated

Introducing the all new co-op mode!

High above the clouds, there drifts a sad, derelict remnant of a once lively little drifter town... it was ruthlessly attacked by pirates intent on sacking the plump little plum in the sky, but in their greed they sank their own ship under the weight of the first load of plunder! A tempest wind soon thereafter arrived, driving the now un-manned island town far from where it had laid anchor for trade. The inhabitants had hastily fled during the pirate attack, but in so doing left all of their goods, munitions, and rum.... LOTS OF RUM. During one of his many pleasure cruises in his glorious, kingly dirigible, the KING happened to stumble across the abandoned stockpile. He immediately seized the derelict under his sovereign authority, claiming the rum (and other less important supplies) for his own reserves. BUT!! Providentially, the surviving pirates of the pillaging snafu had regrouped and showed up just shortly after the KING set up base, and thus found their long-lost gem in the hands of a belligerent, crown-waving buffoon. Having tasted some of the finest rum of the barrels his fat arse now reclined upon, their course of action was clear... This meant WAR!”

Key Features

  • Join up with your friends to protect the rum in the new 1-3 player co-op map, Royal Rum-Bowl!
  • Adjust and rebuild your maze after enemy pirates bomb, smash and utterly destroy your towers with randomized enemies and events!
  • Compete in 3 new leaderboards for solo, duo and trio scores!
  • Enjoy other goodies like a new environment, achievements and music!
  • Featuring the new and improved steel plate hex, state-of-the-art craftsmanship of the KING’s own forges! Unfortunately, it has virtually no affect on towers built upon them... it simply has the appearance of being tougher.
Join the fight!

I was looking for a tower defense game wherein I could sit and play the game for more than an hour and not get bored. I found Tower Wars on sale and immediately grabbed as I'm a fan of worlds created with hexagonal terrains put together.

The game resembles Tropical Tower Wars, a custom WarCraft III map that I used to play. Instead of having a fixed pathways and a place for your towers, you create the maze yourself. The world is made out of hexagon tiles separated into different islands. Three gold mines for each team are randomly placed in the map to create diversity for your mazing strategies.

Controls
[+] Not much to say on this as the game uses the most conventional controls for any Tower Defense game. In the time that I played I haven't felt any type of discomfort even once.

Graphics
[+] As I said before, I am a fan of game terrain made out of hexagon tiles.
[+] The maps for different modes was well made allowing different kinds of strategies to be put to use.

Balance
[+] The bots are good for people who are learning the game. They start from easy and eventually gets more challenging as you defeat more of them one by one.
[+] The game gives you freedom on how you want to handle your mazes.
[+] It also has a route detector to make the game eye-friendly despite building a big amount of towers and stops you from messing up in case you get confused in your own maze.
[-] Although it gets challenging as you pick higher level of bots. The only difference you see is the rate of how fast they upgrade their towers, and mines. They keep recycling the same strategy over and over.

Others
[+] Variety of maps to choose from.
[+] You can either play defensive, offensive, or balance depending on how you wish to control the game.
[-] Few people are playing and on that "few people" even fewer people plays Human vs. Human. Thus, expect long queues when you want to play multiplayer.

Great Game! Head to Head Tower Defense in its purest form. Steep learning curve, highly competitive. Games can take a long time once you and your opponent both master the game. I only ever play unranked since ranked is so highly competitive that I don't stand a chance. Hosting games for my friends and family in a more casual environment this game is spectacular. I truly enjoy this title. We play it madly for a few days at a time then return to it one or two months later and play it madly again. endless replayability when you have friends or family who also enjoy it. The closest comparison I can make to this title would be Swords and Soldiers which is also one of my favorite games, just far more casual than this one.

This game is awesome. It is a tower defense game but you have to defend your castle and attack to your opponent at the same time. Also it has a great co-op part. You can play a 1vs1 game with your friend. Absolutely recommended if you love this genre <3

If you like Tower Defence games then you will like this. I'ts a pretty straight forward TD where you use tiles to try and "maze" the creeps with towers. The selction of towers isn't terrible and it is pretty fun at first. The matches tend to run on and on and on. I once had to just leave my game browser open and go to sleep during a match just to finish it. Some matches can take hours. My main problem with this game is matches tend to never. I'd say if it goes on sale buy it, if not maybe wait.

Fantastic game. Great premise, professionally executed. Both solo and multiplayer game modes are challenging and fun. One of the best versions of an RTS I've ever played.

This is a fairly enjoyable game, though it admittedly takes a little getting used to at first for this is a tower offense/tower defense mix. Not only will you have to worry about managing towers and shaping your lanes, but you'll need to upgrade troops, que them up, and send them toward the enemy castle. The constant upgrading you'll be required to do to stay competitive, in addition to managing everything else, will keep you busy from start to finish. In fact it may even be too much for some people, though I personally enjoy it. Worth the $2 I spent during a Steam sale.

Matchmaking/Multiplayer: 9/10
Co-Op: 4/10 ( Need much more level - and difficulty! )
PvP Seasons: 8/10 ( Good, but only 1v1 seasons? Pretty bad, when the game supports 2v2 and 3v3 )
Grahpics/Design: 8/10 ( Looks good, but devours the computer when you have a screen with full of towers+enemies )
Sounds/Music: 10/10
Maps: 10/10
Towers/Enemies: 8/10 ( Would love some more! )

Overall: 7/10

Tower Wars is another fun while it lasted tower defense game... you'll play it for a while ... leave ... come back to it. This one has really good graphics and is set in a medieval/modern world. Narrator dialogue has the right amount of humor... new twists on weaponry & upgrades are also good. Multiplayer is also fun. The upgraded graphics in this tower defense game will tax a normal video card as is reflected in some of the comments in the community HUB. However, I have had no issues or crashes... the game looks/runs very well, but I am running a 4G video card :-)

I would recommend this game for anyone who enjoys to play/collect tower defense games... it's a good one to have in library.

Although I've got a few Tower Based games, I have not really given them much of a chance.. Loaded this one up the other day and wow. Have thoroughly enjoyed playing. I did about 3 levels and it seems to have taken forever, ut I've enjoyed every minute.

Pro's
Plenty of upgrades, research, units and tech
impressive graphics, even when almost every inch of the level is covered in towers
Plenty of scope for the other levels, routes, etc (mines change places for planning)

Con's
Mines change places (?) still, makes ya think more :)

That's really it for this review. If you like tower games then you can't go far wrong with this one :)

I used to like this game... and then they came out with a single player game mode... and now i love this game! It was always fun, it flows well during gameplay, and equally matched players can have a really good time, and now if you wanna just relax and kick the crap out of some computer players you can! Definitely a great tower defense game for a great price, fully recommended!

Not a bad game, but needs a good computer to run, and a really tanky computer for multiplayer. Fun, addictive, and good for people with some leftover cash and a great computer.

-8/10 Overall.

my only take-away from this thread is:

It's far better to pre-release games as alpha, and incorporate many sales to attract a wide-player (tester) base. This game was released in August 2012, so by the time I encountered the bug I saw, it had already been released over half a year. I was playing what was promoted as a released non-alpha, non-beta, polished, clean product.

By telling players "this is just alpha code" - all sorts of bugs are forgiven. It just changes the whole tone, and it also scares players like me away. I don't want to be anybody's alpha or beta tester and pay for it unless the game is extremely compelling. That's just my personal approach as a consumer.

So I don't know if my review is a troll. If anyone asked me "do you recommend this game" - my review is exactly what comes to mind when I see this game, especially when I visit the forums and get that dirty message in red at the top. It was a power play by the dev "you didn't follow protocol. Nananana." Or at least that's what it felt like for me getting banned.

Today I played 2 multiplayer games, and I didn't see the issue that had happened before. It's quite possible that the issue has been addressed.

And there's really no point in dwelling on "here's what so and so did wrong". I'd rather find a solution, and for me that solution is, it's much safer to call a game alpha than go through this sort of mess.

--------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW ------------------------------------

You have been permanently banned from all Tower Wars discussions.
You were banned by a Tower Wars developer.
Reason: "Not following protocol to submit a bug report."

This is how this developer treats customers. If the customer runs into a problem with the product, ban them from the forums. Permanently. Which leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I can't recommend a game by a dev who treats people like this.

And for the gory details: my mouse would lock up attached to an object in the middle of games. I couldn't
go to the menus, NOTHING. Multiplayer games would log me as having quit the game, when it was a bug.
Of course NOBODY else saw this bug. Well it turned out, eventually, that I figured out (no thanks to the
devs) that this only happened when my video settings were maxed out (monitor is 2560x1600). So there
was a workaround - and they might have addressed this too.

But I'm still banned from their forums.

[EDIT: It looks like they have indeed added a single player campaign, so I've removed the statement that signle player is missing.]

Avoid this one.

The devs seem to find it perfectly acceptable that players run second accounts that they keep at low levels by giving their points to other players. These low ranked accounts then end up getting matched against players that are playing at their true ranking. Since the scoring is handicapped, this leads to the honest players not gaining anything much when they win, but they will end up losing more times than enough and will have large amounts of points taken away.

On paper, they will be losing to a noob and so get penalised, but in reality they are losing to players with skills that place him in the top 10.

So, even at the bottomm rungs of the ladder, expect to find excellent players who will take great delight in making sure you end up frustrated and hating this game.

Since the game is predominently multiplayer (the bots are fun for a while), what you are paying for is to be meat in the grinder.

Avoid.

While the game mechanics are fun it gets boring soon.

There are 6 types of maps to play (with some changing gold placings) and when you defeat your first enemy you go to the next level. Which is immediately a harder difficulty. You unlock all your characters and towers in one game.
So the next level is only harder, barely anything new, just harder to defeat.

I very much prefer to play more of a campaign/story line where you don't experience everything at once so there is something interesting to look forward to when you progress in the game.

To me, Tower Wars is like a needy girlfriend. Tower Wars expects far too much from me. Defend a castle whilst producing an assault against the enemies castle? Tower Wars doesn’t know me. Tower Wars doesn't understand that I have to make a solid effort to remember the garlic bread I put in the oven whilst cooking a bolognese. Tower Wars also doesn't realise I often forget to buy spaghetti. Tower Wars, dinner is cancelled. Tower Wars, I can hardly manage tower defence or tower attack on their own, let alone both. Tower Wars, stop mocking my ability to multitask please. D:

Tower Wars can be played online, though an interesting concept for a tower defence game, I dared not try it. I lost to the base level AI, that was humiliating enough. I didn't feel like demonstrating how many ♥♥♥♥♥ I can suck at this game to online players. :C

Great game for it's price, but it's not for me!
