About This Game

Daedalic Entertainment, once called “Lucasarts from Germany“ by the GameStar magazine, invites the players into a fantastic comedy adventure that revolves around a crazy love story of Rufus and Goal.

In Deponia, the world has degenerated into a vast garbage dump, in which the crotchety Rufus ekes out his sorry existence. He is part of the lowest social class, doomed to live his life in literal mountains of trash. He hopes for an opportunity to get into the world of the rich, who live in a floating city high above the clouds. Fate seems to smile on the snotty good-for-nothing when one day the attractive lady named Goal from the higher sector plummets into one of the trash heaps. Rufus decides to help the young woman out by taking her back to her husband. When he notices that Goal's husband is a dead ringer for himself, he hatches a diabolical scheme to gain access to the upper world. However, things don't work out quite as planned, since he has feelings for the beauty which limits his usual unscrupulousness.

Help Rufus, the poor boy from the junkyard, to win over the girl from heaven. Only with this rich girl from his dreams he might be able to escape Deponia and, unexpectedly, to save the planet.

Key Features:

  • Unique comic style with hand-drawn HD resolution 2D graphics

A point-to-click adventure game in 2D environment with comic style characters that utilizes ridiculously humourous dialogues; which is why its so fun to play!!

Its all about a bold, stubborn and egocentric boy called Rufus who listens to no one but his own thoughts. The only thing he wants is to leave Deponia- planet of junkyard and to go to Elysium which is a floating city above the planet that holds all the beauty and wealth.
Everyone, including his close friends tell him he is a maniac and can never succeed in his stupid plans of leaving deponia. But as the attractive lady called Goal from higher sector falls into the trash heaps of deponia and she needs to go back; Rufus assumes that helping her and taking her back to her fiancé would be his only salvation.

Some characters are weird, some are cranky and grumpy but all are really full of amusement. Most of the ideas that Rufus gets to escape from junkyard is by talking to different kind of people that show less politeness and more of a sarcasm. Most of the dialogues are often packed with lot of humor which will make you laugh out loud. The voice acting is top notch which is why i found the game really amusing and didn't stop playing.

The puzzles in the game were quite difficult(especially for me). Rufus has to collect weird stuff in his inventory; combining some of them together to make them work and to proceed his mission of leaving deponia. Finding the right tools and items was a difficult task.

Backgrounds are colourful that even the whole junk and heaps of trashs seems to hold beauty in them.

In the end i want to say i loved this game a lot. It has unusual love story. I recommend this game, even to those who are not fan of such games. But you should try something different, as different is sometimes cool!

Short Review: Deponia is a fun Point-and-Click adventure that excells at everything it aims at. As most of these games are 100% about the story, you certainly wont be disapointed with this one as its one of it's strongest features. Long story-short: It's a must for any fan of the genre and a good choice if you're just looking for something different overall.

  • Excellent Cartoon-ish, almost Penny Arcade style of Graphics. Every background and character is so rich in colors and every screen was amazingly crafted.
  • Top notch voice acting. They really put time and effort into this one,
  • Great mix of both Dry and Dark humour. There's plenty of scenes that will just make you laugh out loud.
  • Simple interface and overall user-friendly game mechanics. It doesn't punish you if you happen to be completely new to the genre.
  • Difficulty it's just on the spot. What most of these Point-and-click graphic adventures fail at is the crazy amount of times it just leaves the player blocked at a certain puzzle or scene, which just unables him of advancing the story. I found myself completing Deponia without hitting many roadblocks. There's always a tip or two hidden in the description and the game gives you the option of just Skiping the Hard Puzzles and advancing.
  • Even though this is a trilogy, there's still a few good hours worth of game here, which is always good.
  • The Soundtrack is catchy, specially the Bard cutscenes. "HUZZAH, the chorus guy rule!"

  • Sometimes the subtitle apeared in German, instead of English. The voice was still in English.
  • On the Mine Cart level, the game oftenly exited to Windows right after the cut-scene. On the other hand, I'd always find an autosave right before it, so at least there's that.
  • Minor crashes, probably got 3 or 4 on total. Again, the autosave really comes in handy here.
  • There were a couple of Items that were totally useless and were probably thrown there to confuse you. This isn't really a con since it's a staple of the genre but Newbies may find this irritating.

VERDICT: As you probably know by know I just loved Deponia as I find myself enjoying all this crazy Junk world and the completely obnoxious character of Rufus. I strongly recommend you buy the Complete Journey pack which includes all three games. If you only get the first and you enjoy it as much as I did, chances are, you'll end up buying the other two on singles and that will really cost you.

deponia is a great game with stellar characters .

Rufus is the protagonist of deponia, he's a amazing character and a big part of what makes this game so stellar.
rufus is a idiot and he is always cooking up some hair brained scheme to get out of deponia and get in to elysium.
He plays off ever charter well or vise versa, he also cleverly responds to every item you pick up.

game play
The game play is your standard find this object rub it on other object fare, sometimes the puzzles can be smart other times they are just plain dumb, but you can always use the guide or press space to reveal all the items if you are having trouble.

the art in this game is amazing the backgrounds are vibrant and detailed and tend to focus on 2 or 3 colors thought this varies fro each one.The charter designs make good use of thick outlines and have a really unique art style.

voice acting
all the voice actors did a realy good job and expressed lots of personalty that really fit with the charters i personally like rufus's VA

level sturture
the frist half of the game put you in a big open world and the second half focused on 2 smaller levels. While to 2 smaller levels where better in the sense that they where more straight forward a downside of this second half is that it had less pepople to talk with

i would highly recomend you get this game and the others as this game ends on kind off a cliff hanger

"Everything you do will end in chaos."

Deponia is a point & click adventure and the first of a three-part series by the company Daedalic Entertainment with emphasis on character and story development.

Atmosphere & Details:

+ Original ideas and well-animated comic look create an interesting world.
+ Creative puzzle sections with interesting solutions throughout the game.

o Solid musical background.
o Complex puzzles can be skipped.

- The sometimes illogical item combinations can lead to a break in immersion.

Characters & Story:

+ Surprising and refreshing depiction of side characters.
+ Witty dialogues and unconventional conversation options.
+ Coherent and fluid story telling.
+ High quality voice acting.

o Characterization of the protagonist can be polarizing at certain points.
o Based on the German origin of the game, some of the jokes are lost in translation.

- The partially sexist jokes of the protagonist could be considered inappropriate for the younger audience.

The debut of Daedalic Entertainment represents a good start of the trilogy offering a multitude of original ideas, which make Deponia well worth playing.
