Honestly the most fun I've had in a game for a long time. Its so simple yet very complex, it will keep you going till the early hours, its increadibly addicting. The game allows you to pick certain options which will have concequences later on, which i thought was cool.

it can be ran on any computer..... trust me.

Really fun game and makes you feel like you're in an actual episode of south park. Although I would not recommend it at its full price as you can beat it in about 10-12 hours. Wait until it goes on sale like I did.

This game for fans of south park, or people that just like that kind of humor. If you have seen south park and disliked it however, this game isn't going to be for you, as the strongest point really is the humor and characters. The voices are the same and the entire game is filled with references. So many references to episodes that I ended up surprised that going number two in a urinal with mr mackey nearby didn't give me any special comment from my companion. Which I didn't expect going into the game, but again... There was so many minor characters or item references in the game.

I enjoyed every minute of my first playthrough as a fan of the show. (Just for the record far from the biggest fan, since there are a lot of episodes I haven't seen, and I am sure there were references to those that I missed.) Chances are that you will see your favorite character at least make an appearance.

The combat is turnbased rpg with each character having different abilities and moves. And the abilities require different forms of excecution sometimes button mashing, hitting the right keys, click or hold the mousebutton, but each ability tell you how to execute it before you cast it, so it is nice and manageable.

As for the story... It is southpark, don't expect the characters' actions to be logical. And the fewer questions you ask the better. Just enjoy the ride and expect that everyone around you is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or an idiot, or both.

So yeah, if you like south park's humor, then buy this. If not... Then run. Really, this game isn't holding back on any of the jokes, and it is really immature and gross in its comedy. Because of south park's style I feel they can get away with more, because nothing really looks realistic in the slightest but still. If you think South Park's humor and characters are too offensive, then this game won't help.

For me this is a great game, probably among my favorites because i enjoyed the entire experience. Which means, that the nitpicks I have are more... wishes for more features in future games. I wish that you could be a bit more unique character than just one of the normal boys. Maybe let you be a canadian boy, or a fatass like Cartman. Or let you be a girl, or a fat girl like the goth Henrietta. Is it needed? Probably not, but I would like it. I also would have loved more weird classes, like the Jew class already in the game. Maybe getting a princess/girl class like Kenny. Or a vampire class. Also would have loved just more. More of everything! :P I am finished, I want another.

____

On another note, that is not really a part of the review. The next game is called South Park: The fractured but whole. And this time they are going to be superheroes instead of humans and elves. And while I think the combat will be different, I think it is much like this one going to be dripping with the humor of south park. Preordering it means you get the stick of truth "for free" right away. Personally I see it more as paying 30 for each instead of 60 for one. Can't say if the next one will be good, but I loved the episodes I have seen in the show where they dressed up as superheroes.
I know Cartman says the only thing you get for preordering a game is a big fat ♥♥♥♥ in your mouth. Seems good if you like me didn't already have stick of truth.

First and foremost, this is a Ubisoft game that doesn't require Uplay. That alone deserves a "recommended" status.
Beyond that, South Park is, regardless of having the South Park theme, an incredibly fun game.
The mechanics are great, the turn-based fight system is really good and there's enough variety and excitement to it to keep you going for a good amount of hours.
Generally The Stick of Truth is a really decent game.

If you want this game, I recommend that you do not buy it from the steam store page right now. For an extra 30 dollars you can get this game and its upcoming sequel.

EDIT: You have to pre-order the sequel to gain access to Stick of Truth.

For South Park fans a MUST PLAY game
The intention of the creators was simple - it must be essentially playable southpark tv show. And they did it. It is all there - the jokes, the absurdities, simply all that we love about the show. Since it is an essentially a playable episode of South Park, it has the absolutely amazing story that drives you through the game. But the game isnt just the story, it is also the fine RPG system and the turn-based Heroes like battles. You (your character) choose a class at the game beginning (most definetly choose to play as Jew :D ) level up, gain and equip new armors and weapons and battle along chosen, our favourite and beloved characters from the tv show. Each character has his own special abilities, weapons so there is an level of "strategy" to your fights. Enough said. NAGASAKI FART!!!

GOOD things:
  • Essentially interactive South Park Episode = typical jokes
  • Quite long story = i think that without the achievement hunting it took me 20h
  • Casual - Easy to play, no hardcore skill to learn
BAD things:
  • Not everybody likes South Park, i guess they might think the game is as stupid as the show

-Quick Review-
South Park: The Stick of Truth is an RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment and released in 2014. It's really like playing a series of South Park episodes in a video game format. Having Trey Parker as a writer and voice actor makes the game all the more authentic.

-Detailed breakdown review-
Disclaimer: this game (and the show) has earthy and shock humor, South Park is basically TRYING to offend you, and I wouldn't recommend it to most younger gamer's or anyone who is sensitive (...to political, religious, obscenities, cartoon nudity, fart jokes, you get the idea). Honestly I haven't even watched very many of the episodes but I have watched some.
On that note though, think of this review as coming from someone from the outside. I kept having this sensations that there were a lot of in-jokes that I was missing out on, because I hadn't watched all the South Park Episodes. But that being said I still enjoyed the game as a whole, read on to see why.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=698104103

Story: You play the game from the perspective of a silent protagonist who has moved to southpark to avoid.... something! You just overhear your parents talking about it, but you character is about as uninterested as possible. The dialogue is quite comical since your character doesn't speak and all the other characters acknowledge it.
An example would be from the early dialogue in the game "do you know why we moved here?" *blank soulless stare* "Honey, I don't think he remembers...." "Good! Now go out there and make friends, son."

Really the only type of interaction I had with the NPC's was by hitting them in the shins with my weapon, or farting in their general direction. (normally I wouldn't stoop to making French Knight - Monty Python jokes, but that one was too good to pass up. Also it's never stooping to make Monty Python jokes.)

The story is surprisingly longer then I excepted, right when you're bringing one chapter to a close, you go home, go to bed, and wake up to find there's a whole new crisis to deal with. On that note the over all theme is that you're playing an "imaginary" (ish?) game with the south park kids. There are two factions, the humans and elfs, whom are at waring over the stick of truth.

The whole inventory, equipment, quest log, etc, is all done like it's on social media, there are several hilarious jokes that revolving around this theme. Although I did feel a pang of guilt since I only check my own social media once a day and never touch it again. Maybe the game is presenting an allegory for our addition to social media? ......Or maybe I'm over thinking a comedy video game.

Gameplay: The gameplay is solid; as usual the movement controls are my good old friends: "WASD", there are two active abilities you can use: you can toggle through all abilities with Q and E, and then use them with F and G. Or it's something like that, I kept getting them mixed up. I would be trying to throw a fart at a fire and instead throw a dodgeball or tell my companion to do something and butters would say "Well that would be just silly". DO WHAT I SAY BUTTERS!
okay, So the controls aren't PERFECT for a keyboard and mouse, but it wasn't game breaking, just mildly annoying hearing butter talk back to me. (One does get the sensation it would be better to play with a controller though *cough cough cough*)

When you first start up a new game you have different choices in difficulty. Being an avid middle-difficulty-man, I chose medium andddddd I think I under estimated my ability on this one, because towards the end of the game I found myself melting my enemies with my mighty mage spells.
You have a choice between different classes: Fighter, Theif, Mage, and Jew. But you're not limited to your class, so you can set up your gear and build to let the mage focus on melee skills, range, etc. So yeah, I'll leave it like that, just think "RPG customization builds" and that sums it up pretty well.

the combat is done in turn-based RPG style, where you execute specific actions depending on the attack. So for those that are unfamiliar with RPG-turn based combat, you select your attack/item/spell you > select your target > you do whatever action is required (for this example, right click when you see the flash effect) > you right click > you deal bonus damage or an effect. Next character attacks, and so on and so forth, and you keep going until everyone that stands against you is dirt napping. (I can't imagine this is a new concept to people, but if it is just ask in the comments and I'll map it out)

Conclusion:
As I've already said, the best way to describe South Park: The Stick of Truth, is "It's South Park, as a video game". If you don't like or at least understand South Park's background, this game will mostly be a loss on you.
But as far as stories go, this one was amusing, and I feel that it was quite worthwhile playing through. And the gameplay was surprisingly solid, the theme amused me, the voices, music, and theme were completely authentic to the source material, I had no idea Trey Parker voiced so many of the characters!

I was not a big fan of South Park before this game. I had not seen the TV series and was completely new to the series. But The Stick of Truth blew me away. With fantastic writing and dialogues, this is one of the funniest games out there. The combat is somewhat difficult to understand with the blocking mechanic in a turn based battle, you soon get the hang of it. South Park : The Stick Of Truth is one of the best games I've ever played which is short but doesn't overcome it's stay. Brilliant.
