This game is hands down one of the best Sonic title's to date. Sonic Adventures 1 pales in comparison to the magest of Sonic Adventure's 2. First of all, in this game there are multiple characters unlike in the first where you could only play as Sonic, secondly this game features a sexy female lead, she's also a bat. This game covers it's bases well and recieves my vote to become the game of the year 2016.

The most over-rated garbage ever.

Only the Sonic levels are good. The Tails and Knuckles stages are so slow and boring they'll probably make you stop playing.

I never liked any of the Sonic characters, they all seem dull and uninspired.

Not much else I can say about it. The only reason to play it is because of the Sonic levels, which are actually pretty fun

There was once a time in the Sonic series where Sonic Adventure 2 was considered by many to be the best in the series, next to Sonic 2 & S3&K. Critics seemed to be on the same boat as well, IGN back then gave the game a 9.4/10 upon it's release.
Although that was back then...... now a days Sonic Adventure 2 is often deemed as the most overrated game in the series, and most tend to be bashing the game.
Including myself, I could never understand why people were saying that SA2 was better then games like Generations and Unleashed which are my favortie main series Sonic games.
I have no expirence with the original Dreamcast game or even the Gamecube Port, I have SA2 for my PS3 and PC.

This review will be kind of a rough look see into both Adventure games to see which one is my favorite.

Sonic Adventure 2 is fun just like the first Adventure game, but there both rather rough around the edges, while one might do something better then the other, the other does something better.

Sonic Adventure
- Better Music
- More interesting Level Design
- A more fun way of story telling

Sonic Adventure 2
- Better consistency, lets face no one liked Big's fishing levels even with how short they were, and Amy's gameplay could of been better
- Better graphics
- Better controls

I am going to say that both games have their issues and positives, so i'll just say there just as good as one another, although Adventure 2 is still definetly fun to play, it could be worse, but it could be better as well.

8.0/10

I don't care for the chao gardens

Tomarrow, Friday July 22nd 2016 will be the announcement for the 25th anniversary title. Will it be Sonic Adventure 3? I have no clue, but it would be interesting to see what will the next title will be. :)

I find the gameplay in Sonic Adventure DX to be much better than this games, but the Chaos and Chao garden in this game make it my favorite.

Roll around at the speed of sound. . . straight to the Chao Garden
Follow your rainbow. . . if it leads to the Chao Garden
Guess what lies ahead. . . it's the Chao Garden
Set me free. . . from this abysmal story and take me to the Chao Garden

Man, it's nearly 12 years since I played this on the console, and I still remember this game fondly. The story, the various aspects/upgrades for each character, the multiplayer, the Chao garden, all incredible stuff.

This game is also moddable (to an extent), so if you have a thing for that, you're in luck!

I only have one minor problem with this game:
The fact that the Battle DLC is something that you have to purchase. I personally think this was not a good idea, it should have been included with the base game.

If you're in need of a nostalgia trip to the early 2000s, and you're a fan of the Sonic franchise, then by all means, get this game.

If you need me, I'm gonna be wasting my life, taking care of these adorable Chao that for some reason I named after my Steam friends.

This is perhaps the best 3D sonic game from 15 years ago, but it hasn't aged well. Here's my poorly-organized "review":

Just like in the first Sonic Adventure game, you can play as several familiar "hero" characters, including Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. In addition, you can also play as a few "dark" characters, including Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge. There are three stage types: running until you reach the end of a level whilst going very fast (Sonic and Shadow stages), making your way through an area in a mechanical bipedal "thing" whilst shooting things with guns and lasers (Tails and Eggman stages), and hunting for jewels or keys whilst flying (Knuckles and Rougue stages).

The best stages are the Sonic and Shadow ones; they are very fast and are a blast to play. The Tails and Eggman stages are slow in pace, which becomes boring in later stages (you go through them wondering "when can I play a Sonic or Shadow stage and have fun again?"), though the shooting parts can be fun. Finally, the Knuckles and Rouge stages are the worst: you can only hunt down one jewel or key at a time, unlike the prequel, which showed how far or near you were to all items at all times. The first few Knuckles stages are pretty fun, but the ones near the end of the game are a crapshoot; you just have to explore massive areas for ten or fifteen minutes before you find what you're looking for. Plus, if you want to get an "A" score, you can't access the hint computers, so these stages become nothing more than a boring guessing game.

The story is more complex than those found in past Sonic games, but not by much. I won't explain further in fear of spoiling it for you...

Outside of the stellar Sonic and Shadow stages (and tedious/mundane Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, and Rogue stages), there are boss rush modes, a fun kart racing game, a multiplayer racing game (this is surprisingly fun), and more. However, perhaps the best part of the entire game is raising Chao--little Tamagotchi-like creatures. I've spent dozens of hours feeding, training, and breeding these things on the GameCube version of the game. Maxing out all of your Chao's stats, giving it a name, training it, breeding it, and sending it to school is incredible. Maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia, but I just can't explain how much fun this is.

If you grew up playing the Sonic Adventure games like I did, and want to experience some sweet nostalgia, get this game. Otherwise, this game may not be for you. The game hasn't aged well; the graphics are poor, the camera is weird at times, it is riddled with glitches, and the voice acting is terrible. These things may persuade you against getting the game, but if you're blinded by nostalgia like I am, the imperfections add to the flavor.

Notice: As of 2016.07.12, I have collected all 180 emblems, earned an "A" rank in all stages, and have maxed out my Chao's stats to 99. This was all done in about 42 hours.

If you've played this game before, then dropping a few dollars on it could be worth it. But if you haven't and you're interested in Dreamcast-era Sonic, then prepare yourself.

Some of the cons of the game include cheap enemy placement, a handful of crappy levels with questionable designs (particulary Pyramid Cave, Crazy Gadget, the car levels, Mad Space, and Final Chase), RNG, terrible camera angles, audio mixing, and the strain required to get A-ranks sometimes (especially for perfectionists). You'll open a door, immediately get hit by one of those Chaos ♥♥♥♥ers, and lose all your rings; you'll get screwed over by dumb mechanics like manipulating gravity and trying to traverse poorly designed half-pipes in Green Forest; you'll have to navigate a treasure hunting level that's a lot bigger than it should be and have a hit-or-miss attempt in doing well in general due to random emerald placement; you'll barely see what you're doing sometimes; and you'll be more than frustrated when you can't get the best rank for a level and have to play over it again. Note emphasis on using "you'll" alot, because all these things do happen. You will get angry playing this game at least once.

Some people like the story, others don't. The voice acting and lip-syncing can be bad from time to time too, but it's a Sonic game at the end of the day. Whether you care or not is up to you, but I don't think of them as a totally significant parts of the game unlike '06 and Unleashed.

As for pros, the game has some pretty good music, a fair bit of stages that are pretty fun (like all the Sonic and Shadow levels besides the ones mentioned above), an interesting story, presentation, and gameplay concept of hero versus dark, and gameplay value in terms of collecting rings to buy stuff for the Chao Garden and doing up to five missions per level out of the 31 in the game (though the fifth mission on each level makes you want to die). If you do like collecting in games, then SA2 does well to appease. I can definitely say that the pros outweigh the cons in a general sense, but it may not be so apparent sometimes.

And on a side note: you'll either like the Chao Garden or you just won't care at all. It's a virtual pet simulator.

The difficulty of the game comes from a few of the aforementioned cons like bad camera angles and RNG. As you play levels over and over, you'll get used to stuff like the timing of jumping off ramps, how enemies appear from literally nowhere, and overcoming the bad detection in light dashing and difficulty in making precise movements at times. So really, your first playthrough might not be that great. You just have to keep getting used to it and get in flow with the game, because it's definitely necessary to get all 180 A-ranks.

But really, Sonic and Shadow levels are either easy or annoying, Knuckles and Rouge levels can drag sometimes, and Tails and Eggman levels just require abusing the lock-on function to get get score bonuses. That's the basic gist of it.

So yeah, getting used to how this game works makes the mentioned pros all the more enjoyable. Being able to deal with how this game varies in quality often is the best way to experience it. There's not a Sonic game really like SA2 besides its predecessor in the series. If you haven't played this game before in your childhood or any other time like most people here, then be ready for something totally new. And if you have, prepare to relive the weird but charming mix of frustration and joy.

Oh, and this game pretty much requires the use of a gamepad too.

This is an excellent game. The levels are fun and there are different characters to play as with their own moves. The bosses are also very well made. However, the camera controls are TERRIBLE. The camera sometimes gets stuck in a wall and such, and when you move the camera, as soon as you move your player it often jerks back to its position where it's hard to see. The gameplay and levels are very fun, but the camera is horrible. But it's a very old game, (I think first made in like 2000), so you have to cut it some slack. Overall, I'd recommend it.

NOTE: This made made with the BATTLE DLC

One of the best Sonic games of all time featuring 6 playable characters, 3 playable stories, an amazingly fun and adorable chao garden, and a great soundtrack. Sadly, this game doesn't fully support Intel HD graphics and causes the infamous "floating vehicle" glitch in City Escape. (It doesn't seem like SEGA will fix this anytime soon)

Rating: 9/10 "Escape from the City!"
