Too many required techs are not clearly designated as required. You'll need to upgrade your city center, but they won't tell you that until you've had a lot of time to spend your research tokens on other, more interesting things. You'll need to extinguish fires, but they won't tell you that when you have the research token to get that. And research tokens are fairly hard to come by at certain points in the game.
Also, the game has an anvilicious position about environmental concerns that takes a lot of fun out of the game. Your energy and land use choices have a huge and immediate impact on the climate, but the "green" techs are not available at game start, and reforestation is not available until you pass a certain level of damage, so you can't play a balanced, sustainable colony even if you want to; this is ridiculous in a game whose premise is that technology is high enough to make casual colonization and terraforming of other planets an everyday thing. Also, in spite of having orbital colony pods, you can't have any direct effect on land outside your colony, so you can't plant trees outside of your colony limits.
The purpose of this game seems not to be allowing fun or simulating the effect of choices but to push an agenda. As such, it is not something I desire to play or recommend to anyone else. This game is a waste of time and electricity.
