About This Game

Imagine Earth - Planetary Colonization

A futuristic world simulation. Your job as a colony manager is to explore and populate various undiscovered planets. Raise great cities and supply your growing population by building power plants, farms and factories. Key to fast expansion is to ensure the supply of four basic resource classes. The challenge is to deal with whole planetary ecosystems and their natural limitations in fossile resources and environmental resilience. Do research for renewable energy sources and develop sustainable production lines to avoid overgrowth and climate collapse of your new homeworlds. Will it end up in tremendous desolation or can you lead your colony into wealth and prosperity?

Growth

Only cities with happy people will grow and very happy people will pay you some bonus cash. So you should take care of local pollution and nearby buildings with bad influence. Expanding colonies will be provided with additional landing permissions and research budget. Upgrade established technologies or develop new ones. Over 30 constructs and 60 upgrades with different advantages, influences and side effects are available and allow you to build your individual colony.

The strategic placement of your production facilities is vital:
  • The build radius around your city center is limited
  • Some buildings influence each other (e.g. you better don’t place a farm next to a coal power plant)
  • Different field types increase or decrease the productivity of your facilities (e.g. fossil resource fields)
  • Pollution has an impact on your food production
  • Some fields are blocked by rocks or forest (helps to balance the pollution but can also be lumbered for money)

Disasters

Beware: A fast growing civilization can bring your planets ecosystem to it’s limits. Wildfires, dying forests, growing deserts and twisters will arise more frequently and require immediate action.

Incidents in your facilities can lead to chemical leaks, oil spills or even radioactive contamination. All of them having a really bad effect on your people and the food production. Maintain your buildings and fight catastrophes immediately to avoid this.

Ultimately, you will have to balance the growth of your civilizations greehouse gas emissions with the capabilities of your planet and technology. Otherwise global warming melts the iceat the polar caps and rising sea levels will flood your cities!

Story

The story will challenge your skills and moral: You stand between the profit goals of the interstellar corporations and the need to preserve the conditions of living for your people. Meet corrupt chiefs and shareholders while your company faces hostile takeover by larger corporations.

Each of the 5 missions takes place on another planet - one order of magnitude bigger than the previous. Every mission will have some unique elements, like cultural heritage sites or even incoming asteroids. Altogether, the story will have 10 to 20 hours of gameplay. Additionally, there will be a Free Game mode that allows you to build your colony in a relaxed way without any goals and a Time Trial mode that maximizes your expansion skills.

Sounds perfect? Apply for a colony management job at Imagine Earth Ltd. now!

Systemkrav

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows 7/8
    • Processor: 1 to 1.5 GHz
    • Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Graphics: DirectX 10 graphics card (DirectX 9 cards will be fine if they support multiple render targets (MRT), floating-point surface formats and per-vertex texture fetching) Example: Old Intel integrated graphics like Intel GMA 950 or X3000 (used by many old netbooks) won't do. Nvidia Geforce 8 and ATI Radeon cards from 2007 will do.
    • Hard Drive: 500 MB available space

Too many required techs are not clearly designated as required. You'll need to upgrade your city center, but they won't tell you that until you've had a lot of time to spend your research tokens on other, more interesting things. You'll need to extinguish fires, but they won't tell you that when you have the research token to get that. And research tokens are fairly hard to come by at certain points in the game.
Also, the game has an anvilicious position about environmental concerns that takes a lot of fun out of the game. Your energy and land use choices have a huge and immediate impact on the climate, but the "green" techs are not available at game start, and reforestation is not available until you pass a certain level of damage, so you can't play a balanced, sustainable colony even if you want to; this is ridiculous in a game whose premise is that technology is high enough to make casual colonization and terraforming of other planets an everyday thing. Also, in spite of having orbital colony pods, you can't have any direct effect on land outside your colony, so you can't plant trees outside of your colony limits.
The purpose of this game seems not to be allowing fun or simulating the effect of choices but to push an agenda. As such, it is not something I desire to play or recommend to anyone else. This game is a waste of time and electricity.

I really enjoy Simulation and "God" games - like Godus, From Dust, Sims, etc. I wasn't sure if I wanted to purchase this, but the graphics and videos seemed pretty interesting so I decided to try out the Demo. It's definately an interesting game - though it could use a bit more depth to it, and perhaps some further controls. It would be nice if there was something that let you simplify the upgrades, repair and cleaning of your buildings - instead of having to click on each individual one. Honestly, there might be something like this already (though I'm doubtful since I looked) - but the instructions of the game aren't really clearly laid out. It's confusing at first how to control the environmental effects, or what exactly you should be doing. My first run through was a mess - I've gotten better as I've gone through playing again, but it would have been nice to have a better understanding up front. I recommend the demo, I'm not 100% sold on purchasing the game yet - think I'll wait at this point.

Imagine earth seems like a fun game, its has a pretty simple take on city building/management and could indeed provide you with hours of fun. There are a few noteworthy bugs but nothing that really damages the game. I am certain some of yo will like this game. Give it a try its free what do you have to lose?

someone needs to tell game developers that just because someone has a gamepad plugged in doesn't mean they don't want to use their mouse or keyboard at all

Judging by the early demo, this game is micromanagement hell. The worst part is that you have to collect taxes from all your cities manually, by clicking on them. Even on a small planet, that gets really annoying really fast. That aside, there's no information panel that lists all of your cities and complexes, so you have to visit all of them manually in order to apply upgrades or repair them (their condition degrades constantly). And the graphics style and camera don't make that task easy. So instead of being rewarded for expanding your civilization, you're punished for it by having almost no time left to actually expand further.

Considering that the idea of this game is to build a sustainable civilization, it's silly to make it so that any civilization would fall to pieces without the player performing menial chores.

Unless the developer makes some serious changes to the gameplay by the time the game is released, I don't see how it could ever be fun for more than the first 30 minutes.
