************************

In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Key Features:

  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
  • Play at Your Own Speed - Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
  • Unique Lifeforms and Technology – Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races.
  • Be the Captain You Want - Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
  • Randomized Galaxy - Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
  • No Second Chances! - Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.

Fantastic game! All the alien races are interesting, and the variety in ships is exceptional. Boarding is especially fun, and is appropriately as rewarding as it is difficult. The only caveat with my recommendation is that if your computer has no touchscreen, I would suggest getting it on an iPad if you own one. Playing it on a PC is great and all, but a touchscreen adds so much more to the experience. I own it on both iPad and PC and do not regret buying it twice, though :)

I feel like the only thing this game lacks is some kind of sandbox exploration mode that you can play at your own pace. But what it has is done *EXTREMELY* well. The plethora of randomized scenarios that are thrown at you are engaging enough, but the music is what makes this game truly epic for me. It's incredibly immersive and it's a huge staple of today's rogue-like indie games. Subset Games have accomplished something great here.

I hate roguelikes. I don't really like this style of game at all. I loved FTL.

The execution is fantastic. Just watching gameplay will show off how brilliant it is. At full price, it is an amazing game which can have more content than could last 100 hours, if you love these games. The developers deserve your money.

This is game of game of micromanagement. Which can be fun, though is slightly boring. It's better early on when the game ayou new things to try out. Unfortuniately it only gives you so many things and keeps things locked behind very challenging or very teduis chores.

The second the game stops giving you something new to try it gets very boring very quickly. I would personally recommend just skipping this game.

My most played game. Really cemented the roguelike genre for me, as it's really really replayable, and brutally unforgiving at first. I remember, I think it took me 36 hours of playtime before i beat the game once. 36 HOURS! That's more than I put into most games fully! And it's super cheap. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

One of my friends first got me into this game, teaching me how to play as I went- managing fuel, health, good weapons to buy, etc. He had never beaten the game, but still loved it (yes, this is that good of a game). To farther upset my friend, I beat the game my first play through, luckily our friendship survived. This was my first steam game, and still my favorite. Don't be like me and upset your friend- buy this game now, so you don't make anyone mad.

10/10 recommend.

Everyone burned to death. Then everyone suffocated to death. Then, a few runs later, everyone was burned, suffocated, and blasted to death.

Giant spiders ate my crew, strange monoliths evaporated them, and asteroids turned them into fine, dehydrated powders drifting through the void.

Then I started getting better. I stayed away from the spiders, I vented the oxygen out of burning rooms, rather than sending a single hapless insectoid to fight the flames. And then, one glorious day, after so much blood, sweat, and tears, I destroyed the rebel flagship and won the game.

That was 40 hours in. There was still much to be done. This was before Advanced Edition came out, of course, so the unlock quests were the only ways to unlock all of the ships. And how long did it take me to obtain the Crystal Cruiser? 100 more hours.

That brings us to the present day, when I'm 450 hours in, and still banging out a game every week or two. And so, if you're still on the fence about buying FTL: Faster Than Light, ask yourself this: do you want a game that you'll play once and never touch again, or do you want a game that still has tons of replay-value after a frankly embarassing amount of time?

Personal Rating: Terrific but unforgiving Space Sim
Classic Rating: ★★★★☆

What makes FTL good for me?

✓ Spaaaace: this is a quite simple Space Simulator and yet it's features' rich.
✓ Great atmosphere, short game sessions and high replay value.
✓ Excellent Soundtrack, fits perfectly into gameplay.
✓ Cute graphics, even if it lacks a proper fullscreen/high res setting.

And then it's tough too because of:

✘ RNG, which can be so frustrating.
✘ Permadeath: True, you cannot save mid-game, you can only save and quit (to continue later).
✘ A lot of micromanagement involved: every choice is hard to make and you can get killed in so many ways, each time a different one.

I believe every one owns FTL already but if you don't yet, take advantage of the next sale and give it a go.

.....SUBLIME.

...compeling,

....Perfect.

benchmark.

if a game ever aimed at a target, FTL hits the sweet spot, then splits that arrow.

Most games start good and get worse as time goes on. Whatever you think of the first few moments of this one, it gets better from there. The end game is amazing, because by then you've built your ship to suit your play style, but it can't generate enough energy to power everything at once. The game isn't truly tense until you have to give up powering what you want in order to power what you need.

I died.

Then I got smart...

... and died again.

Then I got clever...

... and died again.

Then I got courageous...

... and died 12 more times.

Then I logged out...

... and died again.

Then I logged back in...

... and guess what happened?

I died again.

Best death simulation game ever created.

Oh and the roguelike is pretty cool too.

Stop reading and push the green 'add to cart' button.

If you don't. . . that means you want to live.

FTL has kept me interested for 66 hours already and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Every time you start a new game, the outcome is different and engaging. Although you follow the same general storyline in every play through, it still introduces new challenges and thought provoking events. You are constantly running into issues where you have to make hard moral decisions that will affect your progress in the game.

I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys happiness. 12/10
