Love this game, I'm not usually into rogue likes but FTL makes the experience casual enough for beginners to pick it up and yet deep enough for a more hardcore experience.

The art is simple but compelling, and FTL is great on the iPad as well as PC.

I go in and out of waves of COMPLETE OBSESSION WITH THIS GAME
First wave of interest: Ugh all my crew died again lol...
Second wave of interest: Oh there's a medbay. Welp.
Third wave of interest: YES I GOT A THIRD SHIP WOOT
Fourth (and current) wave of interest: HOLY CRAP I KILLED A THIRD OF THE BOSS AM I THE KING OR WHAT
(Next round) Well everything is on fire again...
Cannot emphasize enough that I've had the game for over a year now and still haven't beaten the final boss tho.

Definitely worth it. Steer clear if you don't have an hour or two to pump into a game at a time, or if you easily get frustrated playing for 40min, then dying and losing everything, or if you hate getting unlucky and can't get that one gosh dern weapon you want from any of the stores.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best games that I've ever played.
Heart-pounding excitement, insane strategy, and at some point in playing, you find yourself shouting at your crew (who are of course named after your friends) to run to the engine and put out that fire!
I recommend this game completely, and also, if your strategy doesn't involve the crew teleporter or a cubic assload of lasers, then what are you even doing?

Excellent for what it does: spaceship combat with a Star Trek twist, it is extremely well made and I recommend it for the combat hands down. However, this game is 97% combat and that gets boring. I played five hours before I realised that I was bored and wanted my money back. 5 hours the day after I bought this damn game and Steam won't refund me. Understanding return policy my ♥♥♥.

A lot of people say that the final boss is "too hard"
yes, the boss is hard, but think about it, its a flagship that has to control, an ENTIRE fleet of rebels, so duh, it has to be strong.

If anyone hasn't played this game yet by now you should make it your priority! Skip a meal or two, buy this instead. It's easy to get into but takes a while to master and there are sooo many tactics, weapons and combinations of surviving and killing. Every playthrough feels completely unique and the game is still extremely challanging if you want to kill the end boss. Can't recommend this game enough.

Your first 2 hours of this game:

Your ship is destroyed, try it again...
Your ship is destroyed, try it again...
Your ship is destroyed, try it again...
Your ship is destroyed, ragequit

3 hours later, you play again

Your ship is destroyed, try it again...
Your ship is destroyed, try it again...
You get an achievement "Tough Little Ship"

Wow I don't know this game has its own achievements. Something good will happen? Is it the right time to finish this session with different path?

All crew members have died

Addictive, difficult roguelike that is simple to understand, but very hard to master. Lots of ships with different abilities are available to unlock, giving you options to be a tank, a glass cannon, etc. Would highly recommend from what I've played of it.

p.s. there is no shame in playing on Easy for a while

Second playthrough:

I encounter a pirate taking advantage of some poor defenseless civilians on some world...

I decide to be the hero.

I eradicate the pirate scum, however during the battle my medbay catches on fire!

I send ensign Willow and Dolan into the fray to put out the fires.

The battle is intense, yet seems manageable at first. Then, the fire catches on in the door control room, so I send the pilot, Hector, to assist.

Both Willow and Dolan begin suffering from smoke inhalation and 3rd degree burns, so I tell them to get the hell out of there! Hector is also beginning to lost the fight with the flames, so I have him run back into the cockpit.

As I try to figure out, wtf do I do now?... the fire catches on in the sensor room. In a short time I can no longer see any room on the ship other than those occupied by the horrified crew. It seems as if the end is here, after only 2 missions, when Hector gets the bright idea "Hey, what if we turn off the oxygen systems!" (You see, the rooms were not adjacent to the airlock, and even if they were, the door control room was destroyed so there was no possibility to remotely access them anyway.)

Such a brilliant idea! It put out the fires! Then hector goes in to repair the medbay, with only 6 hp, and because, idk, maybe the fire accelerated the rate at which the oxygen was drained from that room, he suffocates and dies. But at least his dying words informed the rest of the crew that the plan indeed worked. Hector died a hero.

Knowing the risks at this point, Willow waited until the O2 systems restored life support throughout the ship before going in to repair the medbay. After Willow and Dolan rocevered from their wounds, they finished repairing the rest of the ship.

Now it is time to hold an honorable funeral for Hector.

Faster Than Light is a 2D roguelike game set in space, the roguelike genre has been crawling its way back into the spotlight, however it's not common to be set in such environment.

You're part of the Galactic Federation that assigned you critical information that you must deliver eight sectors away, to do so you're given a spaceship that you must upgrade and fill with crew... All this, while being chased by the Rebel force, nice setup.

Faster Than Light relies heavily in random generated encounters since every time you warp to a location, you have hundreds of possible encounters with multiple outcomes, however this outcomes are sometime random as well, since the answer you gave on one playthrough might not have the same outcome on the next one. Often enough you'll feel the game cheated on you and that the result wasn't fair, however this also makes the game alive and filled with high risk high reward situations.

The combat system is pretty straight forward, when your weapons are loaded you can fire, when your enemy has their weapons loaded they can fire back, however you can assign crew members to certain stations, for example to the shield station which will make the shields recharge faster or to the engine station that will help you dodge incoming fire. Even though encounters are important you also have to make decisions inside your ship by choosing your crew members which unlock special encounters solutions but also come with their pros and cons. You'll have a whole bunch to choose from the Humans, the Engi, the Mantis, the Rockmen, the Zoltan, the Slugs, The Crystal and finally the Lanius.

The art of this game really stands out mainly the soundtrack that is masterfully done setting the perfect atmosphere for a game that leaves you on the edge of your chair, you'll know what I'm talking about once everythings starts going wrong and your entire ship is set ablaze or when you find yourself drifting in space with no fuel, waiting for friend or foe to approach you with a helping hand or a loaded cannon.

However not everythings perfect, even though the game is filled with Quests and Encounters they somewhat lose their essence after some playthroughs when you start seeing them repeat too often with outcomes that you are now aware and can predict most of the time. Also the difficulty even on the easiest setting might be too hard for the casual gamers, which might put some people off the game after some tries.

+ Diferent Strategies and Aproaches
+ Great Variety of Items and Races
+ Amazing Soundtrack

- Encounters get repetitive after a while

88% Cool Game!

Are giant alien spiders a joke?
Does your crew really need that oxygen right now?
How much fire is too much fire?
Is that bribe good enough?
Are they gonna try to eat us if we go in there?

If you've ever asked yourself or wanted to be asked questions like this, then FTL is a no brainer of a purchase.

I get bored with games very easily. However, I have not gotten bored with this one yet. There are so many ships to unlock, achievements to be gotten, and best of all, the game changes each time you play. Many people say this game relies on luck, and it does, but I like that. It means that there is no strategy that is guaranteed to work each time, which makes it harder, but a lot more fun. This is not a game you play twice and win. You can play hundreds of times and might still not win, but it's not the winning that's fun. It's finding that perfect weapon for your build, that teleporter just when you need it, unlocking a new ship. I could go on and on. This is a very hard game, and it's very unforgiving, but winning isn't what makes this game fun. Its the journey.

1. Loaded the game up, playing as default Hu-Nams (Star Control 2 reference; showing my age).
2. First jump is a battle, sensors get blown out.
3. Didn't make the mental connection that the crackling sound I hear is the fire raging across half the ship, because sensors are down.
4. Try in vain to fight the fire; my piddly starting crew of 3 is breaking even with the fire, which regenerates itself while I recuperate in the medbay.
5. Cuss the game out. Unsurprisingly, it's not very effective.
6. Notice my Hu-Nam ship has an airlock system.
7. Funnel my 3 Hu-Nams to the life-support system of The Kestrel.
8. Decompress half the damned ship in a fit of desperate madness; it puts the fire out.
9. A big grin forms across my face as I realize this game and I are going to get along JUST fine.

9999/10. Would buy repeatedly.

My first time playing FTL, I zoned in for an entire game on easy mode without the new content back when I first got the game. I had no idea that I'd be recommending it to my fellow friends the day after playing it. I really want achivements for steam & FTL to be linked as it would make me happy to hunt them down. That is actually my only problem with this game, and it's simply not that big of a problem.

About the game:
Flying through space trying to race ahead of you're enemy & to find the secert of destroying their flagship, you venture on, fighting pirates, fighting for fuel, air & life. You soon find the rebel scum behind you arn't the only problem on you're hands. As captain, you find yourself losing you're men, making trade's, subjected for test trials or feeding the spiders. The choice's you had made.. the choices...
