************************

In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Key Features:

  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
  • Play at Your Own Speed - Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
  • Unique Lifeforms and Technology – Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races.
  • Be the Captain You Want - Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
  • Randomized Galaxy - Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
  • No Second Chances! - Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.

As much as I like the game itself, the rng ALWAYS ♥♥♥♥s me early on. In one run I had barely any scrap, the one shop I found didn't have anything of value and the next area put me up against a cloaked ship. Then I ran out of fuel and a pirate blew the ship up.

This game is simply phenomenal. Of the roguelike-like space combat simulators, and space combat simulators in general, it stands head and shoulders above the best. If you like harsh game mechanics that punish the slightest error, and sometimes even proper play, you will love this.

If you are kind of person that likes sci-fi and strategy? Well this game is perfect for you! I really enjoy playing this game so much that after playing I still keep thinking that I was there in the ship itself fighting the rebels, pirates and some confused aliens! Plus the game is cheap. Worth the money in buying the game. Eventhought the game may not have the over the edge graphics but they have their own art style that fits with its gameplay. Don't forget the music soundtrack they are awesome!

Initially I would have rated this game as good. Now however I simply can't. There is no feeling of good left to me from this game. Put it this way, in business and other things dealing with money the concept of risk vs reward is very prevalent. This game is no exception to the rule, much as it thinks it is. Now for the purposes of this review let's say that reward is in fun rather than monetary gain. For the average person risk should be relatively low for not having fun. In this game the risk is rather high, especially after a certain point where it's pretty much impossible to unlock new stuff (for me it's the point where I'm at). Compound onto this with the fact that it's nigh on impossible to hit an enemy in the late game for some reason, which would be fine if they didn't have THREE layers of shield, which means that they will eat your health with ease while you sit their wishing you could have a jettison option for the person you have manning weapons. At least in that case your jettisoned person might hit the shield and take a level or two off depending on their velocity. I enjoyed the game initially, but my goodwill and enjoyment towards the game has dried up like a sponge in the sahara. Until they update the game to nerf the dodge mechanic this game is pretty much unbeatable, and doesn't get my reccomendation.

Great game. Along with a decent story, the gameplay is fun and easy to do, but somewhat challenging and each playthrough is rightfully different.

You are the Captain of a Starship with the ultimate weapon!.....the fully upgraded PAUSE BUTTON (You wish! James T. Kirk)

I love this game, challenging, brutal and rewarding.

Fun Competitive Play Option: My friends and I have had the odd LAN session where we see who can defeat the game first, you can die as many times as you like and start again, it often plays out like the Turtle and the Rabbit story.

Sequel Option: Persistent Sandbox Space Exploration, aka Star Trek, would be great. A lot of cool mods for this game, check em out.

"do you think FTL is a good game?"

TLDR: I think it's a fantastic game, FTL is a gold standard.

But since you asked, I'll say why:

The gameplay is great. You really want to start on Easy, and use the pause button very frequently. It's really a turn based game don't try to play it in real time. Then just try stuff, explore solar systems, and have a great time. Normal mode is hard enough that lots of people never beat it, and then they added a hard more that really is tough.

The graphics are very simple but also very clean and clear. There is a lot more variation visually than you might think, but you will always know exactly what is happening at a glance. The music is really, really great. You don't need to be a fan of any specific type of music to appreciate how well the tone is constantly transmitted to you. Personally I wind up turning the music off in any game I play after a while, because you have heard it sooo many times, but with FTL I turn it back on, sometimes.

There is lots of content to see. The different types of ships can change the tactical combat hugely, all kinds of things will have effects on the interactions you will have. Some people get frustrated because they have a hard time beating the final boss of the game, but the truth is that exploring the galaxy in various ways and encountering various things, the basic gameplay itself, is the point. The first time I got to the boss it was an accident and I was disappointed because I didn't get to finish the delivery quest I was working on.

I have over 100 hours logged into Steam, and this game has gotten me through at least one long internet-free vacation on top of that. Most of that was before they added a huge, free expansion pack, too. If tactical turn based rougue like lite whatever space exploration sounds fun to you, at all, you will get some time out of this.

The cherry on top of the FTL sundae is the price, it's been in a few bundles and goes 70-85% off pretty frequently. It's worth it at any price, really.

A lot of people say that the final boss is "too hard"
yes, the boss is hard, but think about it, its a flagship that has to control, an ENTIRE fleet of rebels, so duh, it has to be strong.
the game is randomly generated. and one of the BEST GAMES EVER

Love this game, I'm not usually into rogue likes but FTL makes the experience casual enough for beginners to pick it up and yet deep enough for a more hardcore experience.

The art is simple but compelling, and FTL is great on the iPad as well as PC.

Addictive and fun to play, FTL is the space roguelike that will have you desperatley struggling time and time again to complete it. Along the way you can unlock different ship layouts, recruit different races with different stats, but different weapons and upgrade different parts of your ship and, well every game will be different is what I'm trying to say! Very enjoyable and not very expensive, definitely worth a look if you are interested.

Absolutely fantastic game... Great customizability. Unique play-through each time. Many different ships to try. Amazing soundtrack!

I'm generally a multiplayer guy but this is probably the one and only singleplayer game that I repeatedly come back to to spend hours of my life playing.

Please try FTL! It's only $9.99 at full price, can be much less on sale. Totally worth it either way.

A solid silly, but frustration game.
This game features it's randomized encounters, with random difficulty. Expect to die a lot and whatever you do FOR THE LOVE OF GOD and All your game progress DO NOT USE WINDOW's X to CLOSE (Rage quit the game). You will Delete your Data by doing so. I've done it twice.
Quit the game with the Escape and Button, (Quit) In game to save your data.
Over than that Big Bug, the game is silly if redundant.
You spend hours grinding out achievements for new Ships only to discover that the first ship you get is the best ship. Very Ironic indeed.
The Sound Track and random probability outcome can make things Nerve-racking.

Word of Advice if you have 4 crew Members DO NOT BOARD STATIONS Or SHIPS, Your Crew is SO IMPORTANT.
This game is good time killer, best you watch the clock.

Imagine Oregon trail. Then imagine that game is fun and interesting, then imagine an amazing combat sysytem added as well as less (still a lot) of random events that could murder you very violently if you don't adapt. In shorth, this game takes lots of stratagey and skill but is a very rewarding and replayable experience.
