In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Key Features:

  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
  • Play at Your Own Speed - Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
  • Unique Lifeforms and Technology – Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races.
  • Be the Captain You Want - Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
  • Randomized Galaxy - Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
  • No Second Chances! - Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.

Roguelike/lite / choose your own space adventure. Nicely designed game about your own selected crew in your own selected spaceship of which you can unlock more by progressing in the game and acchieving certain feats. The choose-your-own-adventure part of the game is nicely done, visit different nodes in space which may or may not give you loot, a challenge or progress the story a bit depending on your crew/ship/previous choices. The combat is real time with a turnbased feel to it due to the timing/cooldowns of the abilities. Beating the game for the first time might take some time, but just once you figured it all out you get a run in which you get absolutely slaughtered from the get go.
The devs even released a free DLV adding a whole new race and some other mechanics to the mix.

In conclusion: for the subgenre of games it's in, it's one of the best.

Loved it and want more. Any update would be fantastic. I guess that the mods are good to, but I'd love an official update to this game.
A few things to note:
You will die.
You will die a lot.
You will die more than you win.
You can't save your progress. You die, you start over.
HOWEVER:
When you win, you'll be honestly proud of yourself for fighting so hard to win, because you have to do so much in order to win that you will feel like you've finished a journey or something. Either way, it's very rewarding when you win.
The soundtrack is fantastic.
The time between starting the game and death is random, fun, and is also never exactly the same.
The side missions are fun, especially when you manage to unlock new ships. Plus the different species are interesting and sometimes game changing.
The subtle lore of the game and the backstory of the different species, the cause of the war, etc.

All in all, I'd recommend this game to someone who is cool-headed and loves a good old fashioned space explorer. And is willing to die.
A lot.
Seriously, prepare to die, and get ready to fly. Through an airlock. Or, you know, to victory.
Maybe.
FTL.
BUY IT.

Even after all these hours, it still feels like a tense ride . Just as you crest the hill on a rollercoaster, that feeling of utter dread, that is how you will feel while playing this game.

unless, of course, you play it on easy for the "story"...then you are a sissy.

A pretty hard rogue-like which although simple in its graphical presentation is immensely enjoyable and has provided me with a lot of fun. The point of the game is not to always win, but to learn how to plan ahead and prepare for possible future events thus becoming an overall better captain.

An unforgettable experience. Makes you "zone out". Like EVE Online in a compact form.

This is what makes up a good game. The strategy involved and the amount of times you will be defeated will give you a sense of satisfied frusteration. You will be proud of yourself for making the right moves, one after another. Then let the frusteration set in when you make that one mistake, die, and have to begin all over again.

I ignored this game for a long time because the screenshots did not appeal to me. The screens do not give it justice. When playing the game the graphics work very well.

This is my "go-to" game on iPad. It is one of the best games I have ever played. The way the game systems interact together and the multiple ways to upgrade and specialize your ship. Do you want a ship that hacks the enemy systems while you teleport your tough crew on board to take over? Do you upgrade your shields and pilot skills to defend while deploying drones to take out the enemy? Or load up on powerful missiles to just blow them up?

The frantic feeling of being a starfleet captain giving orders to put out the fire in the oxygen room, repair the weapons systems, heal the crew, fight off enemies boarding the ship is all done extremely well.

The game can be random and the final boss is insanely difficult. The randomness helps each game feel fresh and forces you to make different tactical dicisions. The final boss challenge makes it very rewarding when you actually get there and win.

If you like rogue lite / like / random generation games, if you like space, strategy, choose your own adventure, oregon trail style games. This is one of the best and has a ton of content to keep you busy for several hours.

Well here is FTL; faster than light and arguably my favorite game in aall of steam (until I get my lazy ♥♥♥♥ to Darkest Dungeon of course). I simply adore this game, almost as much as misusing semicolons; which I really love. And jsut like semicolons the world has no idea this game exists and how horribly underated it is. Much better than it's "good" half-cousins, yeah I am looking at you Mafia 3 you don't need twelve god damn advertisements while I watch Zero Punctuation (ironic because I am the only guy on the forums who uses apostrophes or commas). In conclusion FTL: ♥♥♥♥ Those Lanius is a great game that I would think everyone should get on Christmass with a cup of brandy, of course as with that situation there is the occassional imbecile that can't appreciate it and must stay back at Counterstrike (back heathens! Away with you!) so yes, unless you have no appreciatioln for anything outside shooters go ahead; buy it.
