Update 14: Paths of the Dead
The Epic Story Continues!
Darkness lies in the East. As the army of Rohan musters to join the forces of Gondor, Aragorn forges ahead through the Paths of the Dead. Follow his path to seek justice and stability for the Realms of Men. As the leaders in Western Gondor answer the call of Gondor and head east, a dark force takes advantage of their absence. Adventure through 5 new levels of Epic Story and beautiful landscapes as you put your legend to the test!

3 New Regions

Blackroot Vale
Mountain towns hold strong after the Army of the Dead has marched through the Vale. Threats from the mountains and from the valley remain. Is there something at work here? Or is this merely the wilds acting amiss? These people need your help.

Lamedon
Farming villages lay quiet in the deep valleys on your path to Dol Amroth. Working their land has made them blind to the dangers that have seized their shores. Corsairs have made their way north and now, more than ever, pose a real threat to the people in this region. Can you help them stem the tide?

Belfalas
The Ocean lies near. The abandoned Elven village of Edhellond awaits your gaze and Dol Amroth, the stronghold in this area, awaits your sword. The beaches stir as ships dock, bringing more Corsairs ashore. The air in Dol Amroth, however, is calm. Few know what is truly upon them.

Essence System
New slotted equipment can be found throughout Middle-earth! Upgrade these armor pieces with Essences that hold great power. Find Essences, or craft them using elements you find in your travels!

Where do I start with this game? Once upon a time, it was a thriving title with a fantastic future. Somewhere along the line, the Riders of Rohan pulled away, Gondor's Men retreated back to Minas Tirith, The Hobbits holed up in the Green Dragon and the Elves left for the West.

To put it honestly, the change to free to play is what started the death toll for Lord of the Rings Online. Instead of being able to be a part of Middle-earth, you are met with "BUY THINGS FROM OUR STORE" every chance Turbine can get. This is not a "free to play" title. Quest packs are required in order to progress and with the new expansion you are also required to pay for the epic quest line - something Turbine once promised would never be part of the pay to play experience.

It's a shadow of what it once was. The engine is in desperate need of upgrading and the feeling of being a part of Tolkien's Middle-earth is gone. Even the cosmetic, housing and music system feels old and outdated. Give LotRO a skip and hang your head for a moment of silence for the game it was.

The Lord of the Rings Online - Shaditore's opinion

Most of the f2p games has a problem with dividing subscribers from newbies.
When you're the second one, you can obtain 2 gold maximum and you can't trade. Those are pain when you reach around 20 lvl(18 in my case). However, there's an expansion which was bundled. It is very easy to get, even now, 3 months after bundle.
When you have it, there are no limiits, you get new quest pack and few bonuses.

Payments are high and you shouldn't play too long.
NO!

Now, it's the MMO you want to play. To reach the moment when you "can" buy a quest pack for your level you have to spend at least 30 hours for one character(46 in my case). Even then, you can just go to alternative location and press on.

During the first levels you can already do the deeds(little quests like kill 30 goblins) to get Turbine Points which are premium. If you does them all before stepping to next 17 lvl location, you can buy a permanent mount and few utilities.

The fact that Warner Bros has coryrights to LotRO makes game almost fully free. The cons are high cost of alternative instances and quest packs, but they aren't really neccesary.

I recommend this game to anyone who wants free MMO, where subcribers has some additional functions(faster movement over map, teleport) but they're the same.

The game itself is amazing.
Views are marvelous, mechanics great and community on Roleplay server wonderful.

This game is pretty fun, but I found that in order to have a really good time you need to buy the new worlds.

It's full of action, adventure, and you can make a lot of new friends that can help you in hard parts of this game.

I found you can also earn points to buy the worlds by playing the game, which makes it a fun challenge.

I also love that you can kill the goblins, trolls, minions, etc.

Good game overall!

Nice game, potraying LOTR lore, however the leveling is often boring, and as F2P the game becomes unplayable around level 30.

It has a slightly different view on the genre than WoW, more story-orientated, and slow paced, but still a very fun game. I can only recommend it to LotR fans, because it features faithful renditions of the original locations, characters and monsters of the books/movies. The skills, talents ('traits') and upgradable legendary weapons give more depth to the already satisfying combat.
