The best kart-racing experience I have had since the early 90's.
Do you remember the 90's? Crystal waters were singing "La da di, la da da" in their hit-song gypsy woman. It was a simpler time. People played MarioKart64 and invited friends who'd suck at the game, because their parents were too cheap to buy one.

But you know the saying: SEGA does, what Nintendon't and this game proves it. Not only is it far more exciting by transforming the vehicles, adjusting to the track/ surface, but it pays a tribute to great SEGA games. Every Stage, yes, every stage is designed after a SEGA classic. For example: the aircraft carrier stage "After Burner" is a tribute to the arcade jet-fighter classic...wait for it...AFTER BURNER! A great way to relive those glory days...La da di, la da da

Not the best racing game out there for sure, but it's fun. Single player career 'world cup' is quite fun but obviously if you're buying this you are probably going to play with friends which is fun, but unless you're 6 or more the fun is not going to last very long. Easy to get 30+ achievements pretty quick as well.

Can level up your characters in custom games is a +

Well you cant have Mario Kart on PC (offically anyway), so this is the next best thing.

Smooth framerates , lots of characters to choose from.

Maps are all over the place, so pleny of vareity.

I think this is preoblalby the best kart racing game for the PC.

Sega did a great job!

I pretty sure we all bought this game cause we love Sonic the Hedgehog, or fans of Sega or maybe we're all complete Mariokart fans. But that is not important what is important is that I might be a addict that needs professional help asap, if I continue playing this game, so I might consider taking a break from this game for a week. Lets just hope that I don't break that promise cause if I do I guess I am really a addict.

Match Making

Match making is basically a bunch of tryhards all spamming their way to victory, yush I know getting first place is rather a bitter sweet moment. But again it for rating points which I honestly don't give a rat ♥♥♥ about. But match making has it moments if you're like me that sometimes I will try to purposely stay in the middle of the pack, since that is where all the action is xD. Besides I only ever play match making unless either Nurse, Chrono or Tom are in the lobby then yeah I will jump in the lobby faster then the speed of light. But if anyone of them aren't in the lobby, then I don't bother I just play Grand Prix instead.

Grand Prix and Artificial intelligence

Speaking of Grand Prix. Grand Prix is basically a mini tourney when you come to think of it, with the points system and what not. The bots or the proper term "artificial intelligence". Yeah yeah bots like to rubberband but honestly who cares I think it funny and flattering if you ask me. Or just picture it like this like I do, you have 9 highschool sweethearts that all sercetly has a crush on you, but they are all to shy to ask you out so instead they write love notes. But again they are to shy to actually give it to you, so what they did is that they made their love notes into paper airplanes and when you are not looking, a paper airplane will lighty hit you, so what I saying is. Bots rubberbanding is equal to that of love notes :). But if you're still complaining then go play matchmaking it literally the same thing.

Being the artificial intelligence geek I am. The only complaint I have with these bots is when it comes to flying maps, they don't airdrift or riskboost they fly like they are going on a stroll. In other words they don't give a sh*t xD.

10/10

But seriously I am taking a break from this game for a week, I shall be back to playing SASRT on August 8 :)

Make that a thumb sideways.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a mix of Mario Kart-like randomness and chaos, and Trackmania-like skill-based precision racing, and then some more.

So it is a game with several very different game-modes and race types, in singleplayer you'll go through all of them, wether you like them all or not. How much fun you will have depends on what kind of preferences of racing game types you have, and I'll try to point out those things in this review.

First off, if you're a completionist, going for 100% achievements or as close to that as possible, this game is quite ok into the 70-80% region, and then it becomes difficult, even frustrating, and a game of chance much more than a game of skill. That's a very clear thumbs down from this perspective. Most people don't care about that but I wanted to mention it for those who do.

If you're a fan of fun racers with random weapon pickups, this game has alot of that, in singleplayer aswell as multiplayer.
The randomness is really really prominent in singleplayer races against AI. No matter how good you are, winning in the hardest ("expert", unlockable) and second-to-hardest difficulty modes is very difficult mostly, and when you win, you don't have the feeling that you did that, but you just got lucky with the pickups and the enemy AI's rubberband mechanism. Someone might be out there who does enjoy that kind of racing, but I didn't. As mentioned, it's the central part of the game.

If you're a fan of driving skill based racing with no element of randomness, this game has some of that, too, and I happen to like those parts. The higher difficulties are a challenge, but it's how well you race that makes the difference, and there's a clear sense of progress and improvement with each retry. You memorize the courses, you spot shortcuts, get a feel for the physics model (unrealistic but that's ok) and the different unlockable drivers that handle differently, and most importantly you learn how to get "boosts" by performing slides around corners and stunts during jumps. So you have to keep an eye out for opportunities to do that, and pull it off with some skill and precision. I enjoyed these kinds of races the most. They come in different variations and make up about 1/3rd of the singleplayer game. Those variations are racing against the clock/against a pre-recorded non-random ghost, racing against AI but without weapons, drift challenges, boost challenges, and ring races in air levels.

There are sections in the levels (with varying extent per level) of air and boat racing, that handle quite a bit differently. The air controls are a disaster, imho. The slower you are, the faster you turn, which is ok on paper, but it makes handling steep curves extremely imprecise and frustrating, especially when the curve is not only left/right, but at the same time upwards/downwards. They should have looked at the 15 year old Pilotwings 64 to get an idea of how to design good, uncomplicated but precise controls for such a game mode.

The great downside to the game as a whole is, that, unless you happen to like all of these different kinds of racing, you'll hate some parts of the game. Due to how the singleplayer progression is designed, you can't really ignore those parts, if you want to progress through the game.

First, I had issues starting the game because of ASN_App_pcDx9_Final. It seems others have the same issue, here is how I fixed it. Go to the games local files folder (right click game in steam library-preferences-local files-browse local files) the copy the ASN_App_pcDx9_Final file, paste it into the same folder (you will now have a file named ASN_App_pcDx9_Final - copy) rename the ASN_App_pcDx9_Final - copy to ASN_App_pcDx9_Final.EXE then start the game again and it should work!

This game really is as enjoyable as Mario Kart and is certainly a good alternative that works well on PC. The visuals are great for a karting game. I will give a full review and rating when I have played the game more. I just wanted to share the fix information

It's better than Mario Kart, there I said it. Can't wait until SEGA makes another one of these.

I really need to get a gamepad for this. But otherwise it's a solid racing game. Segas take on Mario Kart, Although it's very similar, most maps have your vehicle transform into a boat or a plane in certain areas. Can be fun to play against friends as well. So if you like Sega and Mario Kart style racing games, then you'll probably enjoy this.

Final Verdict (3.5 out of 5)

This game is plainly awesome. It haves awesome characters Old-time Sega fans, Hardcore Sega fans, and even PC gamers can, and will recognize.

It haves awesome, memorable soundtrack that's respective to the game the track is from.
And the exclusive PC characters makes the game yet more fun. The game controls very well, and it's quite addictive and challenging.

The game does have some bugs and glitches, but they're not game breaking; like for the WiiU, that NiGHTS is totally unplayable, and almost every Sonic character (Except for Eggman) crashes in Carrier Zone. (This doesn't happen on PC).
Also playing Online is kindof a pain because you barely find anyone online, and when you do they're players who cheat the entire race and you barely catch up to them even with the Super Speed mod. So it's better to play with friends.

But all and all, this is a must have game. I've had more fun with this game alone than with Mario Kart Double Dash, 7, & 8 together.

You should really get this game. It's an underapretiated Sega gem.
