I played very little of CA (Combat Arms) while on Steam, but before it was on Steam I had the pleasure of welcoming CA to NA on May 28, 2008 when the servers opened for Closed Beta. I continued to play for another 5 1/2 years, amassing a small private army in game and over 3,600 hours of logged playtime on Xfire.
Let's start at the beginning, shall we?
I was literally waiting for the servers to open on May 28, 2008 so I could get a jump start on CA. I was not disappointed. What an experience! What a game! I was instantly in love! The guns and characters were few back then, the maps even more so (The 3 originals: Junk Flea, Gray Hammer and Warhead). But it was so much fun! It was CB so everyone was so nice. "GLHF!" "Nice shot!" "Nice game!" "Nice try!" That's what people said before, during and after matches. It was a pleasure to play and the players were 99.9% nice.
All went well through Pre-Open and Open Beta. More people, so the nice things people would say started to become overshadowed by the horrible people who came to play with us CB testers.
Then Official Launch happened. Not even a month later, we started to see it.
Hackers. And the rage and bullying that comes with them.
Well, no need to continue a story we already know the ending to, right? Right.
This game went from one of the best shooters I've played and has devolved into a hack fest, insult fest and all around QQ fest.
From the squeakers who get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because they suck to the veteran gamers who can't possibly be worse than you, this game will teach you that being skilled is a bad thing. Seriously, you will get kicked. Many times.
Using a gun the mod doesn't like? You'll find yourself in the lobby. How about a female character? Hit box is the same size, but try telling the mod that. They psyche themselves out because she's skinnier and somehow it's your fault!
Seriously, if you want a game where you are constantly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about getting knifed from across the map or killed by a flying zombie, by all means, this is the one for you!
But if you want a fun game that hasn't devolved into a hack/whine festival, then look somewhere else.
I'm ashamed to have spent $2,000 on this game. And Nexon just ruined it. I will never play another Nexon game ever again.
