Hello, and welcome to the new and improved Starbound website!

In preparation for the previously mentioned final approach to 1.0, we've taken some time to give the site a new coat of paint. So take a look around, and let us know what you think!

So, what's new with Starbound? Well, I think you'll all be excited to read that you'll soon be able to upgrade your Matter Manipulator in whichever way you see fit!

Do you focus all your modules early on towards maxing out the Power Generator? Or perhaps you'd find spreading your modules out on each area a more rewarding spend. The choice is now up to you in which order you focus your upgrades.

This feature is still a work in progress, but here's a look at the interface as it stands right now:



We've also got some some exciting news to share regarding Starbound on Xbox One! If you're attending EGX Rezzed in London this weekend, you'll be among the first to play an early build of Starbound on the Xbox One, via their new Game Preview program!

Hey, you! Have you ever thought about being a space bounty hunter?

I mean, obviously being a regular bounty hunter is all well and good, but if you stick space on the front of it... well, I'm sure there are statistically a lot more outlaws in the whole of space than there are here on Earth, right? Travel time might be an issue. There's quite a lot of travel. I suppose there are always downsides.

Anyway, now you can do that!



You may come across NPCs who are feeling a bit anxious about the presence of an infamous outlaw near their home. Go and take care of that and receive a nice bounty in return! Outlaws aren't as easy to fight as regular NPCs, and may even have a few tricks up their sleeves.

But who knows? Maybe Shadowy Goldtooth the dark knight is just a bit misunderstood! Maybe you could even be friends?

Final Approach to 1.0

Hey all!

So Starbound's next update is the big 1.0 and it's getting close, so I wanted to update everyone on where things are and what to expect. Leaving Early Access doesn't mean the end of updates for Starbound by any means, instead it will mark a shift away from engine work and towards additional content creation.

In the past we've referred to this update as 'the story update' and indeed the player will finally be able to experience the complete Starbound story arc.



Along the way you'll meet new friends, undertake a series of missions and search for clues across countless planets. The story arc isn't intended to replace the sandbox gameplay, but instead provide it with context whilst leaving the game open and boundless.

So, let's go over some of the big new and returning features in 1.0

Story Content

You are a Protector in training. The protectors belong to the Terrene Protectorate. An organisation formed on earth by humanity to protect and guide the universe towards peace. The story begins on earth, on your graduation day and quickly has you hurtling out into the stars.

The story consists of 8 instanced missions that take the player from overrun mining facilities to ancient temples and sunken libraries. To unlock missions you'll be given quests which utilize many different aspects of the Starbound sandbox to send you searching for clues. Clues can be found in many different ways, from visiting towns and talking to the locals, exploring dangerous dungeons, to building colonies and completing quests. Our goal is to reward however you like to play.

All of these missions (excluding the intro) end in a unique boss fight and meeting new friends that aid in the expansion of the outpost, which is now upgraded as you progress.

As of this update the mission/story progression, armor progression, ship progression and colony progression are all entirely separate. Whilst missions do increase in difficulty as they progress, it's up to you how you want to tackle them in terms of gear, weapons and items. We've removed any artificial gates, though you will need to ensure you have the equipment needed to overcome any environmental hazards.



The lore and NPC dialogue has also been tweaked around this story and forms a cohesive narrative which ties the Starbound universe together.

 

Planet Generation

Up until now, each planet in Starbound had one major biome, with some sub biomes scattered within it. With the goal of freeing up the progression and removing artificial gates in mind, planets now contain multiple major biomes, in interesting combinations. Planet generation feels new and fresh with many more possibilities for variation and interesting content. It's now possible to find a volcano in a jungle or a ruined town in a desert.



 

New Dungeons

We're also bringing these planets to life with great new dungeons, villages and beautiful microdungeons. Planets are populated with more content than ever and we're making sure those dungeons contain rewards that are meaningful both to the story and to sandbox gameplay.

These new villages extend to every race, including the Hylotls who now have a complete set of dungeons and villages in game.



 

New Side Quests

Alongside the story progression and clue quests there are a number of new side quests, including a battle arena, a museum that needs to be populated with artifacts, and test chambers to unlock tech upgrades. We've also expanded the quest system with a quest tracker, compass and multi-part quests which update as you undertake them.



 

Generated Quests

In order for a world to feel alive and cohesive it requires context. We're establishing that with our new generated quest system. As you explore the stars, you'll meet NPCs who need help in various ways. These NPCs will ask you to check out specific locations on their planets to complete their requests. Quests are generated in such a way that the NPCs are aware of the planet they're on, the creatures that inhabit it and where other locations are in the world.

Completing these quests will grant you all sorts of different benefits and some can leave you with new friends.



 

Crew Members

In order to reward players for creating colonies we've allowed particularly happy colonists to become crew members. If you accept their service they'll beam to your ship, wear a uniform and fall under your command. Crew members are capable of fulfilling a number of different roles; Soldiers will fight alongside you, medics will heal you mid battle, mechanics will make your ship more fuel efficient and stylists can outfit your crew in custom uniforms.

Crew members can be picked up and dropped on your ship at any time, crew members that follow you will interact with the world around them, examining and commenting on objects they pass and sometimes interacting with them.



 

Mercenaries

If building colonies isn't your style you can always head to The Beakeasy and hire a penguin mercenary. These mercenaries will carry out the same roles as crew members but their assistance comes at a premium.  

 

Ship Upgrades

Ships are now upgraded by reaching a certain quota of crew members. Alternatively, if crew members aren't your style, licenses to upgrade your ship can be bought on the black market at the Penguin Bay. Post 1.0 we'll continue to look into the feasibility of entirely custom built ships.



 

New Crafting Progression

The crafting progression in Starbound has been completely revamped. There are many more crafting tables, each with tabs that specify categories of craftable items. Crafting recipes have become more meaningful and interesting with more thought behind what each of these recipes requires of the player. It's easier than ever to find what you want, when you need it. Your pool of recipes advances more logically and the improved UI makes crafting less of a chore.



 

Fossils

You're now able to craft a fossil station and new fossil tools allow you to unearth a wide range of bones underground. To excavate fossils successfully you'll need to complete a tricky minigame. Once completed you're able to display collected fossil pieces in craftable display stands.



Hunger is Back

Hunger has been reworked and has returned in an optional survival mode. The UI has been revamped and food now rots over time (with refrigerators keeping food fresh). Eating food now also has a healing effect outside of survival mode.



 

New Weapons

There are a plethora of new, extremely unique weapons scattered all over the universe. These weapons make for good rewards, provide varied gameplay and many of them are built on backer requests.

 

Revamped Pet System

The pet system has been massively improved, captured pets now appear in your inventory, the range of creatures you're able to catch is much wider, the capture animations have been improved along with the pet behaviours. Pets can also be equipped with collars which provide them with special abilities and you're able to craft healing and tether stations to heal and tether your pets to a location.



 

Augment System

Similar to pet collars, armor augments can now be applied to certain back armors to give the player special properties. These range from increased damage and speed to fun special effects.



 

Combat Updates

Combat continues to be updated and tweaked. We've continued to adjust the way damage works. When hurt the player now has increased invincibility frames. When a monster is hit by a player it's unable to damage the player for a short period. Meaning you no longer have to worry about being hit by monsters caught in your special attacks. There are many small changes we've made here while we continue to work on balance.



 

Polish

There are far, far too many things to mention here but the overall effect is one of a far more polished, finished experience. It touches every aspect of the game; code, sound, graphics, design are all included. We will be pushing a release candidate of Starbound to unstable some time before 1.0 whilst we continue to polish for the final release.

 

Performance and Optimization

Performance in Starbound falls into two categories, client performance (framerate) and server performance (update rate). We've entirely rewritten the renderer to massively improve client performance so your framerates should be higher than ever. We're now working on server performance and expect to at least double the update rate before 1.0.

 

A New Style of Multiplayer

Multiplayer in Starbound has always been a bit technical to get off of the ground, requiring the player to set up a server, forward ports, share IPs and so on. We're hoping to use Steam to massively streamline this process though there are still some technical hurdles we're working through. Our goal is to create two kinds of multiplayer experiences.

  • Drop in/Drop out of a friends 'singleplayer' game, through steam invites. This would be limited to 4 players max by default (edited via config). This method would require no server hosting, no IP sharing or port forwarding. Simply invite your friend to the game you're currently playing offline.
  • Dedicated Servers. This would continue to use the server/client model and be entirely configurable by server admins. The goal being to provide as flexible a solution as possible.
We're also looking at what security improvements we can make, though this is going to be a tough one with the degree to which Starbound is moddable.

 

Steam Workshop

Alongside Steam matchmaking we're intending to make use of the steam workshop to support mod sharing and subscribing.

Massive Combat Update!



The Combat update is here!

The much-anticipated combat update is out! Discover new unique monsters, weapons, biomes and microdungeons throughout the galaxy! Check out the full changelog below.

A few notes:

  • Your existing characters and worlds should be more or less intact, but as usual, you will need to start a fresh universe or explore far-off systems in order to experience some of the new content.
  • If you are running any Starbound mods, they may be incompatible with the latest version of Starbound. I'd recommend backing up your existing characters before launching the game!
  • In fact, backing up your existing characters in an Early Access game is never a bad idea.

  • Generated and tiered two-handed weapons now have special abilities that can be activated using right click. Many (45+) possible abilities are available for various classes of ranged and melee weapons!
    • Yes, some guns now have flashlights
  • Change to hammer mechanics: hold left click to wind up, release to fire
  • Change to spear mechanics: continue holding left click after a swing to keep the spear out to fend off enemies

I've played this game off and on throughout its development.

Currently, it is really enjoyable and well-paced. THe story is fun and offers a sense of adventure for about 20 hours. The true spirit of this game is in the sandbox. It is like terraria, but with more polish and an easier to understand crafting system.

I recommend waiting until they drop the 1.0 release (it is still a beta game). That will include loads of new content and finally this game will be "finished."

A great game it is - that's only if you're a patient person as the main goal is mining until the game advances, it's also a very short game.

Quick side note - this game is a copy of Terraria (kinda), but 1) Its in beta, and 2) I like terraria, so it doesn't really matter.

Well I'd give it a 8/10 since its going towards a terraria kind of game but I think thats good.

One disappointment after another, Cucklefish seems to have no idea how to make a good game, or indeed to make a decent game. Despite being marketed to be a terria killer etc, etc. Starbound continues to be nothing if not mediocre and that's if you're generous with it. Somehow Cucklekunt has managed to make the game actively worse with every disgustedly infrequent update. It's a disgrace that they have to spend almost an entire year to ♥♥♥♥ out some ascetic items that I could make in a month... These devs are incompetent and have no idea how to build a good game, no idea of the fundamentals of good game design and last but not least, no respect for the people who supported them with hard earned money, hoping that one day we would game the game they promised us. Is it too entitled to actualy want the thing you paid for? I guess it is.

Though development is moving slowly, the current product provides dozens- even hundreds, of hours of fun that you can have with friends. Imagine if terraria was in space and had a few more features along with randomly generated weapons.

This game was quite fun. I stopped playing with hopes that the early game build would be further imrpoved later on down the road.

Now there have been 10 steps backward where there should only have been progress forward.

Tools are unrepairable, rendering the game an absolute tedious mess early game (and it certainly wasn't simple before), dungeons are now set encounters that don't take advantage of the game mechanics that were so imaginitive before, limiting you to only being able to jump or use weapons.

With no set goal of how to progress, I can't help but wonder why the devs thought making the game more time consuming somehow equated with game depth.

Avoid this at all cost. Right now the game isn't worth 5 dollars, let alone the 16.99 they expect you to pay. I wish I could get my money back.

I beat the game with a few friends and also hosted a server. The server was up for about a month give or take with us playing on it CONSTANTLY. The game's really fun while also being customizable with almost every aspect. Exploration is a blast. Now, the game is somewhat lacking in content after the tutorial but that's being fixed. So overall good game. 8.5/10 would shoot blobs with a shotgun again.

I've only just started playing but its better than I was even expecting. If you loved Terraria you'll love this. If you're looking for something similar to No Mans Sky to fill the time between now and June 21st this game will do that for you. If you just want a great game then it stands on it's own as one.

With the 1.0 update getting near and the price probably going to go up on release I'd say get in now.

I've been playing Starbound from Day 0. Starbound isn't just another Terraria clone or anything like that. It is one of the most impressing and most beautiful games I have ever played. It is so much fun going through Starbound with a friend and do the main quests together, so many customization options for building, it hurts. Chucklefish sure got some great reputation now, just what they deserve. New amazing features get added regularily and you don't feel alone in Planets. Overall one of my all-time favorite games, 10/10 (I would give out 11 points but nobody would take me serious)

Before reading this, I want you to keep in mind one thing, one core fact that drives this review: I LOVED Starbound to pieces, for the longest time.

The first time I picked up this game (on the recommendation of a friend, I might add), I was exploring planets left and right, finding creatures that spit shadow, dragons that could one shot me, fish that looked like submarines, and dogs that vomit rainbows, on the surface of worlds made of purple eyeballs. It was the best thing I had ever seen. Then the updates came. I figured "oh, they'll probably make it easier to find civilization" (at the time I had only found 3 settlements, by my 30th hour of gameplay. I was still happy.) The game started to lag for me. I was used to it, I had a bad computer at the time.

Shortly after, there was a wipe. I lost my character and my favorite server went down. I couldn't play with my friends anymore, the custom ship I was building (thanks to a lovely little mod bundle a friend and I assembled), the planet we were terraforming and the MASSIVE ice-world castle I was building...all gone. I saw what they did with the game and I said "ok, I guess that's a reasonable update." and began my base and ship anew.
Then there was another...and another...Then yet another update came and I couldn't play anymore. I was looking at enough lag that creatures wouldn't move on my screen and I could walk right through hostile dungeons without firing a shot.

For six months or more, I abandoned this game.

A few weeks ago, I got a new computer. I immediately thought back to starbound, one of my favorite games of all time. I boot it up, all excited! Then I remember...oh, the server is gone now. Oh, my base is gone, my ship is gone, my loot is gone, my character is gone. I accept it and move on, perfectly content to start a new character and terraform everything from scratch.
That's how amazing this game was.

My first planet, I'm happy as a clam. I had a new bazooka that fired guided missiles and a nice sword that that spins around and massacres everything. Then I found a house! YAY! A neighbor! Then another one.....YAY! TWO NEIGHBORS!

*next planet* oh hey, a village!
*next planet* oh hey, 4 villages!
*planet after that* Its the garden of Eden, holy crap!
*fifty planets later* Jesus, another village? This whole place is filled with lava though...

At this point, I've noticed that nearly every planet has a village on it. Most have several and most of the ones that have several, are completely covered in tiny little wooden villages. I didn't like that fact much, as it took away from the previous, unique feeling of awe and accomplishment that once accompanied the discovery of a settlement. Quickly becoming bored with that, I did something I had never done before. After just a few hours, I decided to run up a few levels on the main campaign (time was, I never needed to go beyond durasteel, I just explored and built). Even with all my goofing around and time wasting, I got the max tier of armor and weaponry, killed every boss using just my chakram (first weapon I ever found. It scales, but really badly...still the best weapon I have somehow) and I hit a wall..."what do I do now?"...

"OHH! I KNOW! I'll capture a bunch of pets and start an illegal animal fighting ring!"...oh...wait. Nope, cant capture "combat pets" anymore. Only...you know I'm still not sure what you CAN capture...all I know is that its something not worth the effort...I threw those pods at literally everything interesting.

"Ok, well, how about I do what my friend was doing and collect cool trees?" Nope! None of the non-basic ones drop saplings anymore...ok...

I had nowhere to really go, nothing to really do and all of a sudden I realized just how hollow the game had become.
I considered building a base. I mean, every planet does have a massive cliff somewhere that I could just dig into now...
Then again...that's every planet.
I could go on an ice planet...but survival has been removed for a long time and all the upgrades make everything safe. (oh, minor note, I haven't found a single background that struck me as more than mildly interesting. They used to have some really gorgeous ones, like aurora backgrounds, particularly on ice planets. Now, at best, we get a mountain range. At worst, a bunch of mildly weird trees that really muck with your depth perception.)
what about a lava planet? No...It takes eons to reach the floor and I'd probably just find another village.
How about I settle on a planet with lots of those cool creatures the procedural generation always comes up with?...oh...wait. I haven't encountered a single procedural creature since I re-installed.

It used to be hard to find a perfect planet, with a nice background and dangerous weather (seriously, meteors used to be everywhere, it was awesome!) and cool animals and a nice hillside to carve a castle into. And when you finally did, you WANTED to build there. You were COMPELLED, to build there! Now, every planet is...bland and identical. Everywhere, the same dopey rock throwing crab, the same weird, super annoying spider/rock hedgehog thing and the same...is that oddish from pokemon? ((0))_((0))

This game used to be amazing. And I mean, AMAZING. It looked like terraria, granted, but it was in my top ten games of all time. Since the updates, I hesitate to say its even on par with terraria. The balance was lost. The devs left out most of the features that they were supposedly building (custom ships, being a big one. Wouldn't even be hard to do, its one file and a couple of tile types. ENTIRELY feasible and easy to make completely optional!), they increased chests, ore deposits and village areas to ridiculous levels and all but REMOVED procedural generation. Where are my shadow dogs? Where are my eyeball trees and strange giant, lightning spitting, barbarian hylotl? (I want to take a moment to impress upon you, the importance of this last bit here. The procedural generation was about 80% of what made this game amazing. Its gone now.)
And where are those danged ship raiding pirates that we were promised?
Congrats, you added a rail system...something that the community did for mods... in a few days...years ago.

There wasn't a single second that I regretted purchasing this game before I reinstalled last week. Now, I'm not sure I'll ever play it again.

So here I go, onto the next game that promises to be exactly what this game used to be.

This was a great survival and exploration game. It had monsters that came out at night, weather that made you cold, and you needed to eat or you would starve. There were old ruins with traps that you could either deftly avoid with jumps or build bridges across or even dig around.

Now dungeons are sectioned off and can't be tampered with so only the jumping option exists, all npc villages follow the same rule, you no longer need to eat, weather no longer affects you, and the monsters are almost nowhere to be found. So if it's not a survival game and it's not an exploration game, then what the hell is it?

As my friend put it:
It's a base building game where I have no need for a base. It's a survival game where the universe isn't trying to kill me. It's an exploration game where I can't swindle the natives blind. It's a problemsolving game where I can't use lava to smash my way through a dungeon. It's such a MESS now. And everyone is praising it for having so much more "content" now because they added one-line-of-dialogue NPCs and fetch quests.

This is a game that I loved. I loved it. I was enamoured by everything that it promised, and I played and played and played back when it had been recently released into early access. Everything they promised sounded so cool, and everything the game already had was awesome. I played a very early version of it (which was still awesome) and had to deal with a few wipes, and it was reasonable. They were improving it all the time, but a lot of things were still broken, or didnt work. crashes happened, things got deleted, files were lost, but it was perfectly alright. After all, it was an early access game. So I decided, alright, I love this game. So let's wait for it to be released. And I waited... and waited... and waited...
Almost three years later, it still hasnt been released.
Now I am looking at what is being said of the changes that have been made in the time I have been away, and quite frankly I dont think I even want to bother with it anymore.
I stop and wonder if this would have happened this way if this game hadnt been so successful on early access... and honestly I dont think it would have gone down this way. And that is the real problem.

Early access allows small developers with good ideas to get the financial backing to complete their awesome and creative projects.

It allows small developers to earn money, procrastinate, and prolong deadlines until they forget what the hell they were originally paid for.

This was a ripoff. They sold me the promise of a game, and four years later it still hasnt been delivered. In fact the product that is now being offered is quite different to the original game that was sold to me. So, really, do yourself a favor and stay away from this and any early access game.

I bought this game pretty much as soon as it came on steam because it promised to be great. A universe to explore with no artificial walls to progress, were exploration and sheer luck gave you progress... a sandbox universe to explore was the promise. Fast forward a while and teh games original promise has been completely abandoned. Instead of this epic sandbox universe, we now have a quest system and walls to progression everywere until you finish said quests. This game is now just a completely boring dissapointment

Terraria in space? Not even close!


This is a good example of what happens when a game gets too much hype, ( like DayZ ) gets overrated and exaggerated,( like DayZ) and the company takes too much advantage of the so called "Early Access Game" feature (like DayZ again!) it's like game companies use it as something to fall back on nowdays!

It's been a couple of years and I feel as if Stabound hasn't progressed that much at all, it's still somewha bland, boring, and most of it still has no replay value at all. It just ends up feeling very generic and repetitive after you play for a while. (Progression still feels unsatisfying)

I wouldn't be expecting this game to be better in the near future since Chucklefish would rather use the time to make another game like Waywardtide or publish other games instead of finishing this one at all. Who knows? Maybe at the time Starbound gets finished they would already be releasing 10 more games.

Sure, we can all be optimistic and say Starbound has potential, but after seeing how much has progressed since 2013, I still can't recommend it to others.

At least it was only 15$

This game used to be fun, it used to be challenging, it used to be hard to find the perfect planet, and used to be hard to survive on certain planets. It used to be hard enough to find settlements that it felt fufiling when you found one. The procedurelly generated enemies used to be amazing. The enviroments used to be unique and look amazing. There used to be a bunch of unique trees and such. There used to be a bunch of unique bosses that were fun to fight and challenging. The combat system used to be unique, interesting and fuctional. There used to be randomly generated treasure caves which was essentially like exploring a world for hidden treasures, which was fun.

Everything about this game can pretty much be summed up with the three words "used to be"
This game used to be a fun and unique experience and was personally one of my favorite games, but then the devs just removed everything unique and fun about the game and made it so generic. You can now find dozens of settlements on every planet, removing the fun of searching dozens of planets to find one. The procedurally generated enemies have been replaced with generic stock enemies. Survival stuff such as cold and hunger have been removed, which makes surviving on ice planets (which used to be fun and challenging) a piece of cake. The treasure caves that I love so much have now been removed and all tresure is now in the pre-made dungeon on planets.

Essentially, to put it midly, in order to understand what the current version of Starbound is... take Terraria... remove all the bosses and replace them with generic easy to beat ones... break the combat system... and generally remove everything fun about it... VOILA, YOU NOW HAVE STARBOUND!

This copycat was created to leech off the success of Terraria, and sadly I fell for it. The developers were moderately active in updating the game while I was playing, but it was also clear that they had other priorities. Compared to the game that inspired it, this one has very limited options in terms of both building and combat.

The one extra feature it does have, that being the ability to travel to new worlds, is lack-luster. Granted there are a few unique structures and biomes one might find depending on the world they visit, but in the end these things provide no interesting rewards. In Terraria, exploration meant finding crazy new items and unlocking new characters for your growing city. In Starbound it mainly means finding new tiles to use in construction, most of which are boring to look at.

Don't bother with this one. Purchasing it will do nothing to rekindle the flame that Terraria lit in our hearts.

I love Starbound it's fun but trying to play with your friends is like impossible. I have done everything I could and followed the directions of how to play with others but they can't connect to me. I have trying so many videos and written instrustions and it seems like there is not a good and simple way because a lot requires downloading things that I don't need. What I would like to see most from this game is for them to fix the Mulitplayer. Why put it there if only you do all this complicated stuff that don't work when you tried it.

If anyone could help me out or give advice would be great please

It pains me to write a negative review for this game, however it may be important for others to know that the game may not work for you.
I bought it and launched it and apparently some assets were missing and thus the game crashed as I tried to teleport down onto the planet.

I'm excited to have it come out of early access! And hopefully grab it and have it work well.

I've finally decided to weigh in on this game. I really wanted to love it and have played it for what seems like hudrededs of hours. Like other reviewers I would say that yes, it needs a greater sense of purpose. It needs something to make me care after I have played it as long as I have. I have endured the game hoping the next update would make it the great game it could be. Instead I have lost and had to redo many character because the game lives only in early access and continues to have updates that erase your characters. I've gotten tired of messing with game files to keep my passed characters. I wanted this game to crush Mine craft. Starbound has alot going for it, but it has taken to long to get here. The developers needs to Stop creating new games titles and foucus on finishing this game Asap. Give it purpose and you will have a winner. Until then I can no longer recommend this title. In the passed I have recommend it to friend I have even bought two copies one for me and on for my daughter. She like Mine craft better ahhhh.

I don't know how I played over 60 hours of this, but I mostly regret doing so. This game is broad without being deep. The mechanics are tedious and largely unrewarding. Also, I hope you like clicking and slowly mining away 2x2 sections of tiny blocks, because that's the only way to get off of the first planet, and it takes a long, long, long time.

If Starbound was a Simulation game, it would be called "False Promises: The Experience"

At first the game was very promising. It had quite a bit of content to start with, and there was more coming.
Then the promised content got delayed. Then it got delayed again. Any updates we got were just filler to make it look like the game was actually going somewhere. On top of that, those updates constantly killed mods, servers, and save files. I revisited the game recently, and I can safely say that it is not any better than it was when it originally launched, in some ways it's even worse than it was originally.

The game falls under the same problem that a lot of Early Access games have, where the devs say "Hey we aren't going to be like all the other Early Access people, we care about who buys the game and will make a lot of updates!"

In short, they are exactly like those people.

I have to say this game was one of the biggest let downs. As someone who played a lot of terraria. I was so excited for this game. Seeing now that almost 3 years after coming out to early access and it still hasn't launched I'm sad I ever gave my money to the dev's.

This game was quite fun. I stopped playing with hopes that the early game build would be further imrpoved later on down the road.

Now there have been 10 steps backward where there should only have been progress forward.

Tools are unrepairable, rendering the game an absolute tedious mess early game (and it certainly wasn't simple before), dungeons are now set encounters that don't take advantage of the game mechanics that were so imaginitive before, limiting you to only being able to jump or use weapons.

With no set goal of how to progress, I can't help but wonder why the devs thought making the game more time consuming somehow equated with game depth.

Avoid this at all cost. Right now the game isn't worth 5 dollars, let alone the 16.99 they expect you to pay. I wish I could get my money back.

Best game i have ever played, immense, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep; and you can do whatever, whenever you want.

Music 10/10 (Many hours from Curtis Schweitzer)

Gameplay NEVER boring: Craft, collect, fight, forge, trade, buy, sell, dig, high jump, teleport, FTL, explore, build, destroy, capture a critter, create your own colony, play COOP or MP..... 10/10

Graphics: i give a .... about that.

My fav. items: shiplockers, extremely rare collectible monster action figures, music instruments, critter capture pod's, the ferozium rifle and a broadsword.

My fav char.: Glitch, Hyotl, Avian;

And the best thing about it, if you feel sad or bad and you play Starbound, its all gone.

This awesome game makes you cry in a good way and finally it can heal your soul boys and girls.

It's magic :D
