About the Game

In Starbound, you take on the role of a character who’s just fled from their home planet, only to crash-land on another. From there you’ll embark on a quest to survive, discover, explore and fight your way across an infinite universe.

You’ll encounter procedurally generated creatures and weapons, discover populated villages and abandoned temples. Explore planets dotted with dungeons, eyeball trees and treasure. Make use of over a hundred materials and over one thousand in-game objects to build a sprawling modern metropolis or a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, and do all of it alone or with friends!

Starbound lets you live out your own story of space exploration, discovery and adventure. Settle down and farm the land, hop from planet to planet claiming resources, or make regular visits to populated settlements, taking on jobs and earning a living. NPCs are scattered about the worlds, offering quests and challenges for those looking for a little extra excitement in their lives.

It's basically Terraria in space, but with quests and NPCs (that actually speak and fight with/against you) and even a STORY!!!

Tons of races, random weapons, monsters, and planets. This game has everything...
I've been waiting forever for the game, and now the beta is finally here!

My first impressions after 6 hours: http://pepijndevos.nl/images/mind-blown.gif
So much content, an awesome soundtrack and smooth gameplay. You really wouldn't think that this is a beta and it is very clear that the devs put all their effort into this to make it the best game they could and it's not even done yet.

If you enjoyed Terraria, purchase Starbound asap. It's an improvement in all aspects, and its still just in beta.

I, personally, am a fan of Terraria. I've played Terraria for many many hours had many many characters, worlds created, constructions, even cities built on my own. Terraria is one of my most favourite games I ever had.

What happened? Starbound appeared on Steam.
I found the trailer a bit boring but people told me to get it.
When I tried it I was first confused what to do but soon realized that the crafting mechanics are somewhat like in Minecraft, except in a way of Terraria.

I played this game for over 150 hours by now and already am in love with Starbound.
As a fan of Terraria, Starbound to me is 10x better now.
-Starbound has all the mechanics that Terraria missed;
-Starbound has a different atmosphere compared to what Terraria has;
-And yet, the events like Blood Moon or Solar Eclipse did not appear in Starbound yet but are going to appear in from of superior weather effects. You actually have to survive in this game!
-You can create multiple bases on multiple planets but have only 1 home planet;
-You can make your very own NPC, Guards, Doctors, Chiefs!
-You can play as many different races. There are 6 races by now in total, 1 coming soon and many more to be added!
-Every race has it's lore, it's story. There are many mysteries behind those races;
-Even if there is a bit of a lack of biome variation, it is promised to change entirely, everything will depend on what an alien looks like;

The Music:
The music is has more variation compared to Terraria.
Terraria has only themed music. Music of Regular world is all the same Tun tun tun tu tu tu dududu tututu DU - DU PABABAM BAM! (I probably represented it in a wrong way), Night has it's own theme, Corruption, Crismon have it's own theme, hallow has it's own theme, bosses have their own theme, Hell, Blood moon, Rain, Jungle, etc. all that has it's own themed music. It's fair enough.

What does Starbound have? http://playstarbound.com/soundtrack/
Starbound yet has a few tracks but they all play depending on what's going on with the character, in which situation he is: When it's daytime, there are many different tracks attached to it, when it's night time, there are many other different tracks attached to it; When you're fighting someone? You have a really intense combat music playing which sounds quite awesome. Yet, there are no bossfight tracks but I've seen dungeon themed music in the files which I haven't, however, heard yet.

There are many many mechanics that are planned to be added later into the game. This is BETA afterall, it is laggy and buggy, but hell a lot of fun!

As a Terraria fan, I give Starbound a 20/10 since other 10 is what is promised to be the V1.1 of the game :).

Finally, I would like to conclude my rating with another +1 so it's 21/10: You sleep naked and can wear no clothes.

By the way, for those who are curious, I'll make a video on Starbound explaining all what I listed here in detail. I am posting my YT channel http://www.youtube.com/user/MisterDarkness117?feature=watch here (click on 'here') so you can take a look. I'll try to get it done after the end of january (busy with exams at the moment).

Terraria = Left, or right?

Starbound = This planet, or that planet?

Only a beta, but first impression seems good. Smooth controls, and it looks lovely. Text is a little hard to read though, and the controls are not rebindable (yet). Worth an investment if you enjoy games like Terraia, but I would not say this is an insta-buy at the moment. Still very enjoyable :)
