The Story

Dark Souls is the new action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Demon’s Souls, FromSoftware. Dark Souls will have many familiar features: A dark fantasy universe, tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and unique online interactions. Dark Souls is a spiritual successor to Demon’s, not a sequel. Prepare for a new, despair-inducing world, with a vast, fully-explorable horizon and vertically-oriented landforms. Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the the world of Lodran, but most of all, prepare to die. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque mobs and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons bosses. You must learn from death to persist through this unforgiving world. And you aren’t alone. Dark Souls allows the spirits of other players to show up in your world, so you can learn from their deaths and they can learn from yours. You can also summon players into your world to co-op adventure, or invade other's worlds to PVP battle. New to Dark Souls are Bonfires, which serve as check points as you fight your way through this epic adventure. While rested at Bonfires, your health and magic replenish but at a cost, all mobs respawn. Beware: There is no place in Dark Souls that is truly safe. With days of game play and an even more punishing difficulty level, Dark Souls will be the most deeply challenging game you play this year. Can you live through a million deaths and earn your legacy?

Key Features:

  • Extremely Deep, Dark & Difficult – Unforgiving in its punishment, yet rewarding for the determined – learn to strategize freely and conquer seemingly impossible challenges.
  • Fully Seamless World – Explore a completely integrated world of dark fantasy where dungeons and areas are seamlessly intertwined, with great height.
  • Mastery Earns Progression – Contains 60 hours of gameplay, with nearly 100 uniquely despair-inducing monsters & an incredibly nuanced RPG systems including: weaponry, armor, miracles, faith, and more. Player success depends on their eventual mastery of how and when to use the magic spells, choice of armor, the number of weapons, the types of weapons, and the moves attached to the weapons.
  • Network Play – Players may cross paths with one another, invading each other for PVP battles, or to play co-op and take on giant boss encounters as a team.
  • Flexible Character Development & Role Play – As the player progresses, they must carefully choose which of their character’s abilities to enhance as this will determine their progression style.
  • Community – See other real players and empathize with their journey, learn from seeing how others died, find and leave messages for your fellow players; helping them or leading them into death.
  • Symbolic of Life & Hope – The Bonfire is an important feature in Dark Souls for many reasons. Though in gameplay it serves as a health and magic recovery and a progression check point, it also happens to be the one place in the dark world where players can find a fleeting moment of warmth and calm.

This game is a ♥♥♥♥♥ garbage. Completely unlayable on a PC. Don't buy it, it's a waste of your money.

For "defenders" and console pesants: I don't care that this is a console port IF THEY SELL IT ON A PC. And on a PC you play with a MOUSE and a KEYBOARD. I don't play PC games because I love ♥♥♥♥in controllers, simple as that.

A quick review, summarising what is great and bad about this game for different players:
The good:
- Difficulty level/Challenge (For Hard-core/ experienced RPG players who seek for challenge)
- Unable to save; die-a-lot system and resurrecting enemies (For Hard-core/ experienced RPG players who got enough of “save” present in 90% of RPG games)
- The gloomy, not colourful world (For these gloomy hard-core players)
- NG+/++ - more of the same DS (perfect for hard-core players who seek immense experience)

The bad:
- Difficulty level/Challenge (For newbies who only played in similar games occasionally, not at all or simply not enough to enjoy this difficulty level)
- Unable to save; die-a-lot system and resurrecting enemies (For not hard-core players, which seek for games to chill out after work)
- The gloomy, not colourful world (Too sad and too depressing to play for a lot of folks)
- NG+/++ - more of the DS (WTF? That again??!! I barely finished the first play through)

All in all, I think this game is so great (among many more other aspects) because it does not try to please everyone! You do not like it – do not play it then. 10/10!

(I simply rebought it at steam which although havent played much before either. )

If you are looking for a relaxing and enjoyable game with random hacknslash then dark souls it definitely NOT the game for you.

This game is unforgiving, you are underpowered, overnumbered, you have to be fast and agile.Even the slightest mistake can be your doom, well sure maybe not now but you will need that 10 hp which you just lost fighting with standart enemies, at a battle against a boss or simply a strong enemy. You will BEG for that 10 hp but no...

Although this game has save locations and places where you can rest and refill your hp and potions(bonfire) the cost is that evey monster you killed (which could be before or after the bonfire or before) RESPAWNS. The game tells you ' Yeah man sure you can rest but you have to kill all those things again :) ' But if you like a challenge and want to torment yourself then why not... Go get into BDSM but dont get into this game, this game is hell....

But to be honest...

I LOVE THAT HELL ಊ(╰◣▂ ◢╯)Ψ

Playing this game is like being in an abusive relationship with a model. She beats you regularly, calls you a little ♥♥♥♥♥, and hurts you both physically and emotionally. But the thing is, it's all worth it because at the end of the day you still get to smash a perfect 10.

Praise the Sun! 10/10

"Welcome to Things Betwixt. How tough are ya?"

"How tough am I? How tough am I?! I just beat Dark Souls 1 this morning."

"Yeah, so?"

"With keyboard and mouse."

"Uh, right this way, sorry to keep you waiting."

Buy for bragging rights and near heart attacks.

At this point you have probably already heard of this game, but i want to write review for this game just because it deserves it.

Game relies on your skills ( reflex, timing and good execution of your plan if any), this game doesn't hold your hand at all which is pleasant change.

Best boss fights if i dare to say so myself, they are huge, interesting and never same, all bosses are unique, well designed and just freaking amazing.

I would highly recommend this game to you if you are bored of games, yes that's a thing and it happens and game like this which is quite different from usual ones might be just the thing you need.

Only thing i disliked was online, it did worked at times but now always, i had to use 3rd party programs to improve online, and Dark Souls has amazing community, didn't have any summon signs but found help through forums.

Amazing game, amazing community, lore of course and skill.

Git Gud and Praise the Sun.

I'm hoping to catch some of the people that are coming from Dark Souls 3

If you're thinking about buying this game, I say go for it, but there are a few things you should know.
  • This game is sitting on the edge of unplayable without Durante's DSfix /http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/19/? (API MOD)

  • The combat is slower, especially if you start the game with full armor.
  • It's not nearly as pretty as Dark Souls III, even with every mod out there.

This game was released in 2011, and it was highly innovative for that time, much like DS3 or Bloodborne is today.
Just keep in mind that you're playing a piece of Fromsoftware history, and with that, your expectations should be in the right place.

The lore is just as deep, the items are just as confusing, and the bosses are just as daunting.

I think I am finally retiring from this game now, and at the end of this week I will be flying to Japan to give Miyazaki the blowie he deserves.

9/10, one of the top 5 best games I've ever played

Great gameplay and combat
Great story
Great pvp
Not so great graphics
Essentially a guide to how to make an innovative and interesting game.
The cult following this game has had can only attest to that.

A must have for anyone even remotely interested in video games.
