"This is not only a great example of a professional and credible free-to-play game, but it's also one of the best first-person shooters I've played. I am quite serious when I say that, too. This game is a serious FPS contender, and its freemium status should not diminish your expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend you jump in and give it a try. It'll cost only your time to give it a whirl, and I am certain that it'll be time well spent."

"Great shooting mechanics and deep customization options make for an addictive combination, and its free-to-play model makes it easy to jump into with no upfront cost."

"The matter is simple – the game is free to play and, if you take my word for it, an excellent shooter. In a perfect world, it would knock the CoD series on its ass."

About This Game

Take firefights to a futuristic new level in Blacklight: Retribution, a free-to-play FPS. See through walls with the HRV, deploy mechanized Hardsuits, and customize your weapons to dominate the opposition.

In Blacklight, mastering the futuristic tech is half of victory. You'll need to carefully balance your loadout, from the extreme customization possible in designing your firearms, to the equipment you carry and the in-match bonuses you can unlock. The Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) allows you to look through walls and spot enemies, and attack from where they aren't expecting - but be careful, because you're vulnerable while using it.

The other half of victory? Raw skill, same as it's always been. Good hunting, Agent...

PUNKBUSTER INCLUDED
PunkBuster™ Anti-Cheat from Even Balance, Inc. is required to play Blacklight Retribution. This program will be installed alongside the game client.

  • Weapon Depots - Scattered across the battlefield are Weapon Depots that supply your team with additional ammo, heavier weapons such as a Rocket Launcher, or provide the ability to call down airstrikes and Hardsuits.
  • Free to Play! - Blacklight: Retribution is a fully Free-to-Play shooter. Earn Game Points (GP) after every match and use them to unlock various armor and weaponry for your Agent in game.
  • Customize Your Loadout - An Agent’s gun is their livelihood. Choose from 1000 different gun combinations by modifying your receivers with customizable Stock, Muzzle, Barrel, Magazine, and Scope, Camo, and Weapon Tags.

After nearly three years, i thought i'd should give this a replay, since at that moment it was an awesome game. I thought this would get better with time, even taking account that with this time, the community should had been drastically reduced due migration to other FPSs. It definitely was an awesome game.

I don't know how this happened, but this game now is a colossal turd. I've played 5 hours with the new "changes" they've made, and these changes are unbearable for the old players like me, i'll explain why:
-The UI. OH GOD, the UI is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible! it's unfriendly. No, not unfriendly, it's hostile to the eyes and comprehension of the human beign. It surely was designed to be simple. But it was oversimplified to an extent that it would be easier to code your own assembler program to start this game.
-They removed the difficulty of mastering a weapon. You can play half an hour with any weapon, and since the recoil is minimal, it almost feel like cheating; like using an autoaim.
-There's a lot less servers, and they have an horrible latency.
-This last item is a bit subjective and i don't know if i'm right, but i think they've worsened the graphics.

It's soul-crushing, but now i cannot recommend the game that i've loved 3 years ago.

Don't listen to most of these downvotes because they are likely from sour veterans who are
"hurr durr i dont leik da patch i dislike".
I do agree that the parity patch, which was months since its release, had it's ups & downs.
First and foremost, the gun balancing issue of the game.
Back before the patch, let's call it pre-parity, the gun had OUTSTANDING balance, as in you had to play smart with what you put in your gun.
Nowadays, most of the components doesn't matter because recoil is almost non-existant and accuracy is almost pinpoint whatever the build is.
THAT is the ONLY major downside to this patch which still currently exist, however, being
worked on slowly.
Second, the time it takes to get your desired gears, weapons and armor.
Since the patch grinding for gears has been significantly became easier since GP per game has been increased.
However, please do keep in mind that permanent gears can take a BIT of time, as in
notable but not large amount of time.
When you first get in the game don't be intimated with people running with more gear and attachments because they are not necessarily better than you (More gear =/= better).
ALL competitive matches requires only default gear.
Please keep in mind that in pre-parity, this game was in an actual state of DECAY because there hasn't been any updates for like two years.
When the HSL (Hardsuit Labs) Studio, which was responsible for the parity patch, replaced the former the developers Zombie Studio it was the real hope this game has got for a LONG time. Although the updates is slow on the uptake please do keep in mind that they only have a small team and currently looking for more through their website: http://www.hardsuitlabs.com/.
I want this game to succeed because it's an original, unique and amazing game that shouldn't be ignored.
That's why I highly recommend this game because not only has great potential but it also need more amazing players, casual or not.
If you got this far reading my comment, thank you! I really hope I get to change your mind to at least try out the game.

we gamers had to play for hours to get our gear. to level up. to do everything you had to play!
aaand parity patch
boom! don't play, just buy it!
level caps gone, best gun in the game, available at lvl1, for just a few bucks.
we had to get level 30, and spend a few thousand credits on it, but who cares the gamers, right??
all our achievemnts, guns, gear and equipment, where we worked, not grinded but worked so hard for, stripped from us by cash ******.

and even worse, stripping the best game mode any fps ever saw....SIEGE!
sending your minigun armed and armored tank trhough 4 checkpoints who had to be hacked by team mates.
aand its gone.

achievements, you said??
aaand its gone.

so if you love a p2w fps, with a sci-fi look and real fps feel, try it
if you are a blacklight veteran? don't even bother anymore
if you want to have an fps witch you can sink a few houndred hours in it, go for it.
just beware of the f2p kiddies...

sorry, i am a BLR veteran who really loved the game, but, please, for the love of slifer, rollback the parity patch

A decent game that can entertain you for some time. I enjoyed it for it's approachability thanks to the Parity patch, but now I am starting to wish that I could play this wonderful game pre-Parity.

Everyone has better guns than you. Everyone has better Gear than you, Everyone has better Taunts than you, Everyone has
better attachments, Everyone has more better ping than you, Everyone has more money than you. It will take you about 20 hours just to get 1 primary gun............................................. 1 PRIMARY GUN. The grind of farming these credits to buy 1 gun is too much. Or instead of farming 8500 credits for buying 1 primary gun, you can use real money and all of your worries will go away. Free to play, Free to kiss my bottom.

7/10 to farmer Valve. Free to Farm for 20 hours

For a free to play game, this game is very good. It ultimately leaves you happy with its great gun mechanics and cool features! It focuses on popular gamemodes and does a great job of providing a unique experience in the f2p field! It has pretty good graphics for its price and release date and gives you a wide variety of large and spacious maps. Overall, I would say it's a fun and adictive game.

So much potential, but after they patched the PC version to match the console version, the best game mode is missing... so are the players. Now there are empty servers , no fun game modes and BUGS... BUGS EVERYWHERE!

It was one of the best F2P FPS games you could find on pc... until they decided to abandone the PC community and showed us the cold shoulder.

Oh boy, This game is my slice of cake. Don't let my hours fool you I main on PS4, Blacklight is a game I truly think is Perfect to some degree. The devs and Community are really pushing to make BLR better and possibly mainstream. Right now In trems of gameplay and ect it's fun and really diffrent from other FPS today. I get to run around with my Fox+Cat rig slashing my foes in half with a katana then switching to my M4X mowing down my targets. It a must have. In terms of P2W it really isnt. You only pay for skins, heros, and other cosmetics. Weapons are easy to unlock and you can rent. Leveling up is easy and cashing out isnt a struggel.
