"It was at the time a really solid sci-fi multiplayer shooter. As it stands the business model leaves something to be desired. Try before you buy in."

Reviews

"This is not only a great example of a professional and credible free-to-play game, but it's also one of the best first-person shooters I've played. I am quite serious when I say that, too. This game is a serious FPS contender, and its freemium status should not diminish your expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend you jump in and give it a try. It'll cost only your time to give it a whirl, and I am certain that it'll be time well spent."

"Great shooting mechanics and deep customization options make for an addictive combination, and its free-to-play model makes it easy to jump into with no upfront cost."

"The matter is simple – the game is free to play and, if you take my word for it, an excellent shooter. In a perfect world, it would knock the CoD series on its ass."

About This Game

Take firefights to a futuristic new level in Blacklight: Retribution, a free-to-play FPS. See through walls with the HRV, deploy mechanized Hardsuits, and customize your weapons to dominate the opposition.

In Blacklight, mastering the futuristic tech is half of victory. You'll need to carefully balance your loadout, from the extreme customization possible in designing your firearms, to the equipment you carry and the in-match bonuses you can unlock. The Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) allows you to look through walls and spot enemies, and attack from where they aren't expecting - but be careful, because you're vulnerable while using it.

The other half of victory? Raw skill, same as it's always been. Good hunting, Agent...

The game itself is pretty fun, the artstyle and cyberpunk feel is amazing, however the Free to Play model they use is about as bad as it can get. You can customize anything for cheap...as long as you're willing to shell out more credits to renew the rent, each item can either be rented or permanently owned however the price scaling is ludicrous. The price scaling runs about like this, 1 Weapon Accessory that costs about 395 GP (InGame Earned Currency) to rent, usually the rent scale is 3 days to 7 days, however to own it permanently, it's going to cost you about 3750 GP for ONE accessory, to put this in perspective you earn ABOUT ~200 GP per match (Start to End), that means you're going to be playing about 19 matches just to get one. single. item. Alternatively you can pay Zen which is obviously the cash-currency of the game and to give you an idea of the cost of items through actual money, $10 nets you 1000 Zen, to get that previously mentioned weapon accessory it'll cost you 300 Zen or $3 for 1 single accessory. This game would be amazing if it provided players with more options to customize their character without having to spend actual money. If you're looking for another Sci-Fi F2P game, I'd recommend Warframe instead

I have had played this game for a huge amount of time, in those times i spent hours in a row playing blacklight with friends, it was great, but as soon as the PS4 version of BLR came out, the game died completelly, all admins in PC where moved to ps4 or fired, and the game hasnt had an update in around 1 year (a real update with something added, not bug fixes). anyways, the servers in which i had 150 ping came to be over 600, anyone who isnt from usa cant even play. BLR please come back to who you were :´(.

Great game when it came out. Then it went to PS4 and got screwed there and at some point they decided to switch over to a new client or something called ARC, and every time I tried to play the game it would not let me sign in unless I made a ARC account and downloaded the client. This game was great but it has been screwed, plus the free to play/ paid parts slowly got terrible too. RIP great game, just like Bullet Run

Will probably play this game a little more and possibly update my review in the future, but after a few games and checking the shop prices ~ this is my opinion at a glance lined up next to a ton of other games I've played.

If you had easier access to everything, this would be one of the most fun recent FPS games I've played. The reason I wouldn't recommend this game to the average FPS player is the sheer amount of games you'd need to run just to get one piece of gear (perma) and the fact that you can get temporary gear has always been a down side to me for these games. Unless you spend chunks of money to get what you want, you will probably be burnt out on this game long before you are happy with your character. Though if you're either willing to shell out money or you are fanboy enough to get anally pounded for your time (not the combat, your time - you can still win with crap gear) then you'd probably love this game. Not for the average FPS gamer though.

Blacklight: Retribution is an excellent game and has a very unique feature unseen in any other FPS - a legitimate wallhack. It adds a completely new dynamic to the gameplay. There is a lot of weapons and attachments to choose from, you can either pay to unlock them or grind a bit and do it without spending actual money. I doesn't take too much to unlock the most important parts, but be prepared to invest a lot of time if you want most things unlocked.

Sadly, I cannot recommend this game in its current state. I actively played it during the second half of 2013 and even back then the game was leaking players and servers were atrocious. Now (late 2014), from what I've read, it's even worse. The publisher of the game (PWE) is to blame and they most definitely don't deserve your money. The game is free to play and it doesn't cost anything to at least try it, but the game leaves a lot to be desired.

Too bad, because the game really had potential. Non-existent marketing and some really poor business decisions by the publisher spelled the end of it. RIP BLR.

It bears some resemblance to a good FPS, however its always a controlling factor when you have to pay extravagant amounts to keep the things you work hard to unlock unlocked permenantly. And you have to grind for a day just to unlock something for THREE DAYS!!!??? Come on, lads. Also, don't worry about the playtime over there <-- or up there /\, for some reason this thing keeps resetting.

Pros:
- Fairly good graphic design
- Good combat mechanic
- Lots of customization availible

Cons:
- Ugly animations
- Toggled crouch, aim, etc. by default
- TEMPORARY UNLOCKS
- Cramped Maps, also not very fluent and hard to know where you are
- Overuse of Dubstep music

Best game i ever played. Although there are some things you can pay for for an "advantage", it doesn't effect it much if you know what you are doing. Good graphics, able to refresh skills with bots, free items weekly (rentals). The stock weapon is your best friend. After each level up, you recieve attachments for the stock weapon to narrow down the choice of weapon you want (SMG, LMG, Bullpup, Etc.). Custom gamemodes, if you wanna play with knifes, they by all means do it and watch the party rise. Create a custom icon with provided pictures (3 sections, Backround, Main, Front), Clans to join (or go solo like me :P ). So what are you waiting for? Start the game already! :D

100/10 Better than Ghosts

The game is very unique because of the customization for weapons and characters. Damage per weapon is pretty damn balanced and again, can be customized to the player's liking. So in short, very awesome game!

The game itself is entertaining and quite fun to play. High paced and action packed.

However, due to the adminitrations and lack of work on their end to help resolve a 3 year issue I had with them has already been at the up-most frustrating thing to have occured. When logging on for the first time, it seems all fine and dandy, but then comes the issue of logging on later when the servers are available, yet they are not. This is the very result in which I had hoped that they can fix as soon as possible and address it, yet gailed to do so.

This game has potential, just not the frustration of unable to log back on after a time of enjoying yourself. With all the solutions applied to address the issue, it doesn't work.

I recommend to play it for the fun of it. I just don't recommend it for their reliability and such.

Played a few hours, fun simple shooter to play a few matches once in awhile, hit a wall of high-level tryhards and extreme p2w crap. Ever fight someone 4x as fast as you with absurd amount of HP, carrying a LMG that has crazy accuracy, kills in one shot (at least for me with 200hp or whatever I have)? I have, and they were unkillable unless facing half our team. I have encountered several people who have survived 2 railgun shots to the face and had the abbility to run away faster than anyone else in the game, buy a flamethrower, run back and, before I can kill them, instatnly burn me out of my mech, take it, and go on a rampage of death and destruction.

And still have 1/4th of their hp left.

Railgun shots normally instakill everyone.

I got a few fun hours out of this, but for some reason I expected a perfect world game not to have p2w, I was of course, wrong.

Yeah... no, nope. Not good, not good at all. Yet because I am apprently prone to self harm, I have no doubt I will put more time into it.

I will say the idea is brilliant, but the execution is horribly messed up.
