“Analogue is a sit-up-and-take-notice achievement in storytelling, in interface, in research, in mechanics and in moral ambiguity.”
Alec Meer, Rock Paper Shotgun
“It was like watching a horror movie, knowing what was about to happen and curious only how awful the director’s willing to get. Love is not gratuitous but doesn’t disappoint – the fate of the Mugunghwa, and the event that precipitated it, is as valid as it is appalling.”
Matt Sakey, Tap-Repeatedly

Om dette spil

Back in the 25th century, Earth launched a generation ship into deep space, with the goal of establishing the first interstellar colony. It dropped out of contact and disappeared, never reaching its destination. Thousands of years later, it has finally been found.

Uncover the mystery of what happened to the final generation aboard the generation ship Mugunghwa by reading through its dead crew's logs, with the help of a spunky AI sidekick! Two pursuable characters. Five endings. Enjoyable game if you like visual novels and going through e-mail messages piece by piece. Should only take about 5 hours to do a full play through. There is a confusing part of the game where you have to type commands in a prompt in the correct order to continue playing. I ended up having to use a walkthrough to get past it.

I've only beaten it once, but it was a magnificent playthrough. It's like with Undertale and most games that change it's ending due to your picks, I wanted to end the game and finish it once with choices I've made without help or guidance. You won't regret getting this game.

This is really good. The story is hard to understand at first (for me at least but i'm relatively new to visual novels), but after a while it starts making sense.

This game is feminist, the story is about what it would look like if feminism didn't exist. There is a feminist character and an anti-feminist character (both are girls).

The story is more than just feminism though, it has a really interesting plot and a lot of crossing paths between characters. It's told through chat logs and email logs, and also "talking" to the two girls.

There is an ending that you will probably need to look at a guide for, but other than that things are pretty straightforward and it's told more in story than difficulty.

This VN contains physical abuse and obviously anti-feminism, so be warned.

EDIT: After reading other reviews, I have to point out that most of this story is just reading. Choices usually don't matter, if you want active gameplay you will be dissapointed.

The first VN i have ever bought and played, and still one of the best VN's i have ever played. I highly recommend it to anyone new to VN's and to those who who enjoy VN's with a dark story.

Interesting non-linear format, great writing and interesting and nuanced ideas about society and gender politics. It's really cool to see a regressive, pessimistic view of the future for once (reminds me a bit of Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss).
It's a bit tough keeping track of all the characters but the complex and intertwining story is well worth the confusion. The characters have depth and the story-telling is smoothly done, although the game feels a bit short. There is replay value, however. I wasn't overly keen on the AI art style, but that's just me.

Overall an inventive little game about AI's, the future and mass murder.

I haven't written a review for any game on Steam before but this game is amazing. The writing and the whole progression of the story made me sympathize with certain people (choosing my words so I don't put spoilers). Though if you like VNs and drama/tragedy I completely recommend this.

I got this as part of a Humble Bundle a while back. This believe this game was in the $1 tier.

This is not your typical VN, but it was a very refreshing, albeit short-lived, experience. While there is an acceptable amount of dialogue to be had between both the AI characters you interact with, the bulk of the game's story comes in the form of journals, logs, letters, and diary entries that you read through. Additionally, actually having to use a computer terminal for various functions makes the novel more involved with the player's direct actions, but the novelty of the mechanic can wear off on subsequent playthroughs. If anything, I wish that the game expanded upon this a bit more, and perhaps with a bit less hand holding.

There is a LOT of reading required in order to grasp the story fully, so should you play this game I highly recommend making sure to pay close attention to what you read to get the most out of it. If info dumping is not your thing, this game may be lackluster to you. Having read all of the logs in the game, I found myself enjoying the story and drama from those moreso than my interactions with either AI. This is not to say that I didn't like the AI characters. Both had enjoyable quirks to their personalities, but I found myself wishing for more dialogue with them by the time I had finished.

While this game is NOT an eroge by any means, there is an element of romance in the game, and certain logs and entries you read through are mildly explicit. It is not without plot significance, so just be forewarned. Minor context spoiler: The explicit scenes described do not involve the player character, but rather, other characters recounting their activities.

My only real issue with these logs, which I do not fault the game for, was minor difficulty in name recognition. While there are in-game resources to assist with this, all of the game's character's are Korean, which I had difficulty putting to memory.

It took me under 5 hours to sub-optimally get all achievements in this game. Playtime is short for a VN, but minor complaints aside I was plenty satisfied with my game experience. For what effectively was a single evening of plot dump, I would be very hard pressed to pay a full $10, but if you see this game on sale and are looking for an entertaining story, consider picking it up.

There is also a direct sequel to this - Hate Plus. You can play the story as is, or carry over your save file from this game. Something to keep in mind.

This game isn't all that complicated - mostly reading logs, followed by brief conversations to unlock new logs. Mostly.

The content of those logs, though, is wonderful. The game's story emerges in a nonlinear way, and depending on which set of logs you happen to unlock, your conclusions at the game's end might be quite different. For a game this short, the characters are complex and well-developed.

Be aware - it will take multiple playthroughs to find all of the game's content, especially some of the last few logs. I've spent about 24 hours of total playtime with this game and I think I've seen most, if not all, of the content. Beyond that, replay value is pretty limited.

If you have a few free days and like somewhat-dystopian sci-fi (or just a good visual novel), this game is worth your while.

Christine Love is... an interesting developer. Her first big game, maybe her first in general, was Digital: A Love Story, and it used a creative format to make a very linear story feel very open ended, and a simple premise feel really unique.

Her second game, which I can't be bothered to remember the whole name of but is something like Don't Take It Personally Babe This Just Ain't Your Story, is a comparatively unambitious Ren'py VN that has some interesting ideas married to poor execution and unlikable characters. It's not a bad game, per say, but coming off of Digital, it's attempts at moral quandaries mixed with mediocre art and a dumb cast are at best quaint and at worst cripplingly mediocre.

The good thing about both these games, however, are their status as freebie games, and their short run times.

Gameplay wise Analogue resembles Her Story, only less interesting and more traditionally minded. The affection mechanic for the featured anime girls is underdeveloped to say the least, and while her exploration of feudalism and gender politics are actually beat, God dang if this game isn't a chore to play and not enthralling enough to push through that.

If you're wondering, I did complete this game, via a walk through because midway through the endless periphery text no longer held surprises, I just wanted to get to the end to see if there was a point. Instead I got a harem? What? If this is about gender politics then why do I end up with two digital women on my analogue schwanz? It's not a conflicted message per say, it's not wholly unexplained, but golly gee I just can't say this game had any good take away for me.

If you're interested, instead try Digital. I'd skip Hate Plus, as well, and to be honest her newest game sounds like a train wreck.

What this game does well is immersion and appropiately timed mood changers.. so long as you read everything (I mean this is a visual novel). I found myself being filled with various emotions and yet the hope and love for my digital digital waifus only grew. The issues I found with this game is in an attempt to achieve a certain ending would cause you to go through extensively tedious code entering. So... now that you have decided to buy this game be prepared to become enveloped in the story and stricken with a choice of which waifu to choose... or why not both?
Edit: Also the background is almost entirely going to be white.

A surprisingly engaging visual novel that actually presents you with some interesting challenges and moral decisions. The relations between characters can get a bit confusing, but their stories are well written and enjoyable. The soundtrack is also pretty good.
