7/10 A good game with several severe drawbacks to it
Review for the Street Fighter X Tekken: Complete Pack version 1.08

Both the Street Fighter & the Tekken franchise are video game milestones. Capcom’s Street Fighter II (1991) became famous for introducing mechanics we nowadays perceive as normal, such as combos, cancellations, or lenient controls. Bandai-Namco’s Tekken series (1994 ongoing) then built upon this & Sega’s Virtua Fighter’s legacy (1993 ongoing) to sweep the market with 3D fighting arenas, new control schemes, more realistic fighting moves, & beginner friendly controls that displayed a remarkable, never before seen depth to them. It seems like a no-brainer for these two giants to meet up in this crossover from 2012. But whether this 2.5D mashup fared well or not, is a completely different question.

About the game
  • Mechanics
    • Movesets
The mechanics & controls of both Tekken & Street Fighter could not be any further apart with one being build around 3D arenas while the other was made with 2D environments in mind. SFxT tries to solve this problem by greeting players with a surprisingly deep fighting mechanic that has multiple means of individualizing the characters’ movesets. Nevertheless, using Tekken characters does feel alien.
      http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685384490
Generally, the game shares several of the mechanics of the Street Fighter IV franchise (2008-2014), but adds optional, simplified special attacks (e.g. instead of ↓↘→Ⓟ just pressing ↘Ⓟ), customizable button combinations, & quick combos to make it easier for Tekken players & newcomers to find their way into the game. Simplified moves worked well in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (2008) & sure enough do their job here.

    • Tag Team
The tag team system is inspired by the Tekken Tag Tournament series (2000 ongoing) with tagouts either being performed through quick combos or by pressing medium kick & medium punch at the same time. The initial problem of the game was that the amount of damage dealt was too low & because each team possesses two healthbars, fights often ended in timeouts instead of KOs. After several patches, this was remedied, but fights can still be unnecessarily drawn out. On the upside, tag teams can even be created in online ranked matches and up to four players can duke it out at once.

    • Scramble
The scramble mode is obviously the highlight of the on-/offline multiplayer experience, four players can play simultaneously in teams of two. The rounds are quick and chaotic, which just adds more to the fun.

    • Gems
To further balance the game, SFxT has a gem mechanic. Each character can carry up to three gems at the same time, each having different effects & prerequisites to activate them. Although the gem system makes sense in theory, in practice it is a mess. The amount of available gems is way too large leading to a multitude of confusing combinations that discourage users from looking into this mechanic altogether. Even worse, a large amount of premium gems are only available as purchasable DLC, thus missing the point of being there to level the virtual battle field.

    • Pandora
In theory Pandora is a great mechanic; sadly it’s not so much in practice. Players sacrifice one party member to temporarily boost the remaining protagonist's powers for a brief amount of time. Once Pandora runs out, the player automatically loses. Therefore it is key to knock the other party out swiftly; unfortunately, because of the game’s design, Pandora rarely helps win any rounds but instead causes players to lose. So, it’s hardly ever used.
      http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685384665

  • Customization
To individualize characters beyond the gems & customized button combinations, players can color their characters’ clothes. The feature even allows players to either wrap the characters in latex or neon glowing schemes (To see an example of a neon character, click here). Additionally, all base game characters have DLC outfits that are inspired by characters from both franchises.

  • Backlash
The game had several issues when it first came out. Shaking life bars irritated players & low damage dragged matches out. But it was the DLC policy that ruined the game for many.

    • Controversy
Although the SFIV series was known for its on-disc DLC, Capcom came under scrutiny upon SFxT’s initial release when it became public that several of the announced twelve DLC characters were already included on the game’s disc - locked behind a paywall that cost as much as many video games ($19.99 USD). More than that, the Playstation 3 & Vita releases of the game had five additional DLC characters, namely Toro Inoue, Kuro, Cole Mac Grath, Pac-Man, and Bad Box Art Mega Man, while the PC & Xbox360 releases did not receive any exclusives. Further, the Xbox 360 version received even more criticism as the online tag team bouts mentioned in the game's manual did not find their way into that version & were not patched in later on. The big disappointments over the game lead players to stay away from it altogether. After initial attempts, Capcom then decided to stop promoting the game.
      http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=688920867
    • Games for Windows Live
For the longest time, Capcom refused to transfer both Street Fighter X Tekken & Resident Evil 5 over from Games for Windows Live to Steam Works. And while RE 5 received this treatment in 2015, SFxT still uses GfWL. Windows 10 users won’t have any problems logging in, but others will have to jump through hoops to get the game working in the first place. However, once that’s done, the game & other GfWL services will work just fine.

    • Online
Sadly, due to its age, negative reputation, less popular design choices, & GfWL, the online population is considerably small & encountering cheaters who use lag switches or rage quit before they lose a match is not uncommon. The remaining players who don’t cheat are often times veterans who far outlevel any newcomers making it increasingly difficult for newcomers to win any matches at all.

  • Optimization
There's not a lot to say about the game's graphic and control options. It's just as marvelous as with the SFIV series with different AA features, V-Sync, & completely customizable button configurations.

Conclusion
Despite it all, SFxT is a good game that suffered from questionable management choices which tarnished the game’s reception & subsequently was part of what discolored the company’s reputation for years to come. The arcade stories are fun and the animations have the right level of goofiness to stay refreshing. The PC port is marvelously optimized with tons of graphics options that even allow it to run on "toasters". It's definitely worth picking up for a fair price & is truly something that fans would want to check out.

This game has never worked since I bought it.
Supposedly, you have to manually hack your computer just to get it to work.
That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t no one should have to go through to play something.
I bought the game and all it's DLC almost two years ago and I have,
NEVER
EVER
Been able to play this game.
All I get is a black screen that locks up my computer forcing me to force reset it.

DO NOT BUY.

Street Fighter x Tekken is the best Street Fighter game ever, (have not played Street Fighter V yet) There are some pros and con of this game. here is the list.

PROS

1. 38 characters (+12 DLC characters sold seperatly)

2.Great graphics

3.returning characters (Ryu,Ken,Chun-Li,Guile,Etc.) and new characters (Juri, Poison, Hugo (Andore in final fight,)
Guy,Cody,Abel,Rolento)

4.Lots of game modes (versus, arcade, character costumize, training, challenge, combo costumize)

5.All new gem mode, a new roulette like ability that gives your character extra power in a game (speed, strength, etc.)

6.You can fight with a bear.

7.Ability to change the colors of all of the fighters (extra colors sold seperately, but buying a character swap for .99 gets you all colors for free)

8. If you download the game but also have Ultra Street Fighter IV, you will get a free costume for every new character in Ultra Street Fighter Iv that have not appeared in another version of the Street Fighter IV game (Hugo,Poison,Elena,Decapre,Rolento)

Cons

1.Not enough character colors and costumes (starts with original costume for each character, but have to buy new character costumes individually for .99 each)

2. Can't use Pac-Man or Megaman (PS3 version only)

3. If you don't have a Windows Live account, your data will erase when you close the game and will make you redownload all character costume and color swaps again (if you have any) and you have to reset the character language setting (English or Japanese)

4. Have to buy characters like Sakura, Blanka, Guy, Cody, Dudley, and Elena and 6 Tekken characters I can't remember the names of for $20.00

5. Too much DLC

This game is great. 9.5/10 definitly recommend.

I bought all the DLC for this game and I can't access it because of some garbage with games For Windows Live.

If you are wanting to play this game today you should spend a few hundred hours readsing about all the things you are going to need to do, including downloading cracked versions of the software, in order to access your own content.

SFxT is the best argument for piracy that has ever been made.

If this is on sale for 10 cents stay away from it.

DLC Cash Grab, almost all the characters you could want are displayed on the character select screen but they are locked behind cash walls...

The game itself is playable, and is more street fighter than tekken in playstyle honestly, and that isn't neccasarially a bad thing, but it means that a lot of the tekken chain combos, and the feel of every tekken character is replaced with a generic Street Fighter esque feel... In all, I do not recommend this game, and I definitely am not a fan of how they handled expansion characters, who traditionally would be unlocked by finishing the arcade mode.

In short, buy this game only if you are a huge fan of both series, and want to end up spending roughly 145$ to unlock all the characters, not to mention the completely gratioutious amount of DLC costumes...

I write this review with just over an hour clocked in this game, but rest assured, the full hour was spent getting Games For Windows Live to work with Windows 10.

A simple process of uninstalling all instances of it, restarting your machine, manually downloading the client, installing it in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and running it as an administrator, restarting your machine, putting in your credentials, click on the "Click here to resolve problems with your account" button when you are unable to log in, log in through Internet Explorer, discover that this process doesn't work, input your credentials, click on "Give me a new account", accept the new terms of service for xbox, go back to the client and log in, start the game, log in, download your profile, download an update for games for windows live, close the game to install it, restart the client, log in, restart the game, log in, download your profile, accept all the notifications from the game, and then you're good to go!

Game tells me there's a fatal error every time I try and open it. Checked all the game files and they were good. My PC is perfectly fine and totally capable of plaything Street Fighter X Tekken. They're breaking every game that is a couple of years old now. None of the older games work like they should because Steam and the devs will not push for more stable games on PC. Time to fight against this kind of bs. Tired of not being able to play the game that I purchase on Steam.

The game plays perfectly, the problem is the DLC.
I played, had fun and then wanted to play with the DLC characters...
I found out the "12 additional characters dlc" is region locked.
The only DLC i can purches is Gem packs ,stuff that i don't care about or really use.

Without the DLC characters, the game feels like an incomplete experience.
DO NOT BUY THE GAME IF YOU CANT BUY THE DLC CHARACTERS!

This game doesn't work on Windows 10?
It won't start, stuck on black screen.

Everyone listen up!
Games for Windows WILL WORK if you have Windows 10. Sign in like you normally do, enter the product key the game gives you, and you will be able to save your data.
As for the game, it very good. The Tekken characters look kinda stupid when selecting them, but besides that, it is a very good game. I recommend getting it during a Steam sale to have a great deal.

It suffered a crap launch, with some baffling time-freezing bugs, a terribly handled business model, damage output being too low and Games For Windows Live violently opposed to letting people play online as usual. A lot of its gameplay issues were fixed in a massive patch, but by then it was too late - abandoned like so many other fighting games that aren't Mahvel.

Yet for all its faults, I honestly prefer the feel of this over Street Fighter 4. It does a legit good job mixing together these two series' different elements, combos feel less rigid, and the Tekken cast were brought over to the SF engine in interesting ways while still being faithful to their 3d fighter origins.

I managed to get it working with Games For Windows Live, still really cool. I may not have liked the ABC combo system but I enjoy the unique teams and matches you can have.

The game is broken.

Oh, not the game itself. That runs great. But apparently neither Capcom, Bandai or Microsoft seem to care that the middleware no longer works. The original Windows Live software doesn't network anymore, and the dozens of fixes that the community comes up with (and they shouldn't have to come up with, mind) maybe works for Windows 7 or 8x. 10 is out the window.

Great game. But the perpetual middleware fail ruins the experience.

Game has still GFWL (so requires gfwl account for stuff being saved) but runs on Win7! without problems.
It is a tag team street fighter game with tekken chars, not the other way around. Although tbh Tekken chars look way cooler.

This game is quite user friendly and is a toned down version of SF4.
There is even a auto combo move and a gem that block grabs automatically lol.

A plus is local 4 player coop (not all at once since it is tag team but player 1 can swap with player 2 combining their combos)

But you should kinda like both franchises.

I really loved this game a lot but... there is 3 things to have in consideration that blows all experience:
- Requires GLFW to be able to save data and play online and this services will be discontinued, the only game that capcom did showed interest to convert GLFW to SteamWorks was the Super Street Fighter IV, so probabily this game will became broken...
- The netcode isnt that great, why devs dont use GGPO netcode?
- Abusive DLC's in all kind ways: costumes, characters that the development were finished in release date and they decided to sold them way later in dlc release method, gems that influence the gameplay performance... so yeah...
