"The sword of destiny has two edges. You are one of them." Great addition to Sapkowski's saga. Really exciting 50 hours of gameplay. Worth recommending.

Forget anyone who tells you this is a game to be skipped in the Witcher franchise - having re-played it 8 years after my first play-through it is as fun and immersive as the first time. Each game in the series has a vastly different gameplay style and this game is more of a rythem game than its sequels in terms of the gameplay itself. That being said, the first Witcher game is a brilliant RPG that includes choices and consequences that actually matter to the plot! If you love the books and the other games, please check this out. Although there are numerous inconsistencies with the books, there are also a lot of fun references to them, so it really all depends on how anal-retentive you are about rigid consistency toward Sapkowski's source material to love this game. Being a book fan - you should love this game!

I am proud to say that I read the books before the Witcher came to PC. However 10 more years had to pass plus I had to finish W2 and W3 as well to get back to this gem of RPG and try it, play it, this time for real.

Although the game aged a lot it is still a joy to play, somehow reminded me the classic RPG era with Baldur's Gate in front so that's a huge plus to me.

So, if you are new to this franchise please please please play the first part as well (and read the books for gods sake, support the writer!!!)

P.S.: and do not forget, the books came first, not the game - something what is not well known on the west...

This game is extraordinary. I purchased this game before reading the books, but played it after I read them and that added so much to the already great story...
Anyway, the game itself is just great. Although the controls are a bit oldschool, after you ge used to it, there's nothing in the way for you to enjoy the story of a freshly resurrected witcher Geralt of Rivia, which takes place in a very nicely made city of Wyzima and its surroundings. Although the game is old and so are the graphics, it's just beautiful and with the option of importing saves to the second Witcher, it really makes every decision important.
It can also be quite difficult, so remember to save, because there's nothing more unnerving than having to fight through loads of monsters and talking to a lot of people for the second time.
So, the main question is: would I recommend this game? The answer is not really difficult. Of course, andif you read the books, then it's almost necessary for you to give this old jewel a go.

This game when it comes to atmosphere is the best out of all three. Atmosphere is dark and really immersive. Story and the characthers are 10/10. If only the voice acting for certain characters was a bit better. The only thing that is not that good is combat. Everything else is excellent and it deserves your money and time. Withcer is easly one my favorite RPG's of all time, including 2nd and 3rd games. CD Projekt Red improved with each game which only proves how talented they are. The game is cheap and its worth it.

This game introduced me to the series of games and I having previously read the books say this matches up well. From the striga to the bosses everything's in order though as with transferring text to game things get lost. I actually like this mire than the books. I reccomend this.

Hey! Well at this point there's not much to say about this game, but i still want to give my positive review, especially considered how many people actually say to skip this game and go to the sequels. While i think this game is a bit less fun and epic than some of the other western rpg (Gothic 2, Risen 2, Demon/Dark souls), this game is a great entry on the western rpg genre and a great start of an incredible saga. Long story short, do not believe anyone who tells you to skip this game. The two things i think are the strong point of this game are: 1) How polished this game is, no crashes, bugs, etc. 2) And this is a really interesting point that should be really adressed in a lot other games/ movies and books but i rarely see it mentioned/used (the only other game that comes to mind is Army of Two: the 40 day, and even there it's not as deep as in this game) it's that not only choices really matters but as in life sometimes every choice is wrong, and even an apparently wise choice is wrong. The only bad thing i found about this version of the game is that the "dlc" isn't worth it, there's two super short additional adventures from the developers, while all of the others are bad/boring mod like adventures from the community. I give this game a 7/10, be sure to play it.

The visuals and combat mechanics have not aged well, but this still manages to be an immersive RPG with some great characters and an engaging story.

Gameplay and graphics wise, this game isn't so great, but the graphics do and the gameplay is rather unique. At least, to my knowledge. The storyline, however, is very interesting and pulled me in quickly.

This first game in a great series starts out pretty mysteriously, and soon gets straight into action. You go on a long quest to avenge a death, to recover what was stolen and to find things that were lost to you. Along the way you meet a whole lot of interesting people, some you know, some you don't. You even got two bros. Those guys are great.

There are many choices you make that (heavily) impact the game, and it's sequels, so choose wisely what you do.
You level up to unlock new abilities, like really cool sword moves, fancy magic and deadly tools.
There are many different locations, many people to talk to, lots of quests to complete, and much loot to be had.
There's a lot of walking from place to place, unfortunately, so be wary of that.

Overall, this game may be outdated in quite a few ways, but the story is still great and I believe it is a must-play if you plan on playing the other two games.

Maybe 9 years ago it was really good, but now I can only see one of the worst combat systems I experienced, 3/4s of this game are complete backtracking and maybe the story is good, but the bad optimization in this "enhance edition", the repetitive and monotone combat and the time to get from pont A to B, made me lost interest.
