"The sword of destiny has two edges. You are one of them." Great addition to Sapkowski's saga. Really exciting 50 hours of gameplay. Worth recommending.

Forget anyone who tells you this is a game to be skipped in the Witcher franchise - having re-played it 8 years after my first play-through it is as fun and immersive as the first time. Each game in the series has a vastly different gameplay style and this game is more of a rythem game than its sequels in terms of the gameplay itself. That being said, the first Witcher game is a brilliant RPG that includes choices and consequences that actually matter to the plot! If you love the books and the other games, please check this out. Although there are numerous inconsistencies with the books, there are also a lot of fun references to them, so it really all depends on how anal-retentive you are about rigid consistency toward Sapkowski's source material to love this game. Being a book fan - you should love this game!

I am proud to say that I read the books before the Witcher came to PC. However 10 more years had to pass plus I had to finish W2 and W3 as well to get back to this gem of RPG and try it, play it, this time for real.

Although the game aged a lot it is still a joy to play, somehow reminded me the classic RPG era with Baldur's Gate in front so that's a huge plus to me.

So, if you are new to this franchise please please please play the first part as well (and read the books for gods sake, support the writer!!!)

P.S.: and do not forget, the books came first, not the game - something what is not well known on the west...

This game introduced me to the series of games and I having previously read the books say this matches up well. From the striga to the bosses everything's in order though as with transferring text to game things get lost. I actually like this mire than the books. I reccomend this.

This game is extraordinary. I purchased this game before reading the books, but played it after I read them and that added so much to the already great story...
Anyway, the game itself is just great. Although the controls are a bit oldschool, after you ge used to it, there's nothing in the way for you to enjoy the story of a freshly resurrected witcher Geralt of Rivia, which takes place in a very nicely made city of Wyzima and its surroundings. Although the game is old and so are the graphics, it's just beautiful and with the option of importing saves to the second Witcher, it really makes every decision important.
It can also be quite difficult, so remember to save, because there's nothing more unnerving than having to fight through loads of monsters and talking to a lot of people for the second time.
So, the main question is: would I recommend this game? The answer is not really difficult. Of course, andif you read the books, then it's almost necessary for you to give this old jewel a go.

This game when it comes to atmosphere is the best out of all three. Atmosphere is dark and really immersive. Story and the characthers are 10/10. If only the voice acting for certain characters was a bit better. The only thing that is not that good is combat. Everything else is excellent and it deserves your money and time. Withcer is easly one my favorite RPG's of all time, including 2nd and 3rd games. CD Projekt Red improved with each game which only proves how talented they are. The game is cheap and its worth it.

This game was clearly developed on a budget, and yet it manages to be ten times more immersive than RPGs like Skyrim and Dragon Age.

Good game, good story!

You'll be more busy chasing skirts and staring at boobs than fighting and killing monsters!

Story is real good, with twists and turns you wouldn't expect. Lore and Background Story is nice enough to keep you hooked up. Rather old but still good graphics too. And almost every decision you make has an impact on story.

All and all, it worths your money. You wouldn't be disappointed.

This game is simply the old gold. It's kinda easy to get used to combat after few fights. Well if you play it in 3rd person, can't imagine playing it in the native camera... BTW, useful tip: Each save takes 25MB in C:\Users\%your_name%\Documents\The Witcher\saves ... Took me 8,5GB from my kinda small system SSD before I found out what is that thing that fills my drive... So erase your old saves if you're the kind of person like me (saving every 3 - 4 minutes) :)

It's a fun game but infuriating at time I have been stuck on a mission for two hours since the item I need will be given to me at a random time and there is nothing else I can do since I completed the side missions that are available, but other than this I fully recommend this game it is a fun way to kill a couple hours at a time

I bought all three Witchers on sale. With some effort, I limited myself to starting this, the first one. I tend to like games that let you play as less human characters- lizzard men, dragons, cat folk and the like are great examples, honestly, even though Geralt, the main player character is a mutant, he is still very humanoid in appearance. Have to like his slitted eyes and silver hair though.

That aside, this game is deep, I'm getting addicted and I've barely scratched the surface of the first one. The game supports Nvidia's DSR mode very well, giving edges a nice crisp look, though the textures are often blurred even at the games highest setting. Considering this is an older game now, that's not suprising.

Story plots are pretty deep. In fact, I'm involved in an investigation right now fit for a sluth. The game has a time of day system where events happen and people are only presant at locations at certain times of day. All the mechanics show a lot of consideration. Witchers potions provide benifits, while have an accumulative poisioning effect that acts as a limiter, preventing you from brewing and downing too many at once. Monsters tend to show up more at night than during the day. Conversations with folk should be taken seriously, lest you say something that turns them off from talking to you at all for a while. Swordplay is impressive, and once you understand the mechanics, is quite enjoyable.

All in all, the game is well designed and thought out, and at this point, With all three games, I'm going to be spending several hours with it.

It's not as flashy as the later games and might not have the same widespread appeal, but if you're a fan of the sequels, or just want an old-school yet approachable RPG to spend several dozen hours with, The Witcher is definitely worth considering.
It's starting to show its age, and it was never a very big-budget game to begin with, but for a 2007 game running on a 2002 engine it's more than presentable.
I'd say I did the majority of stuff there is to do, and the game took me 40 or so hours to beat. There's certainly replay value with the choices and leveling.
The Witcher conveys the sense of "monster hunting" better than either of its sequels. The creatures are straight out of folklore as opposed to common fantasy, and the requirement of having to read books and learn about your targets is something you don't see in games very much at all.
The potion system is still incredible.
Combat is pretty much passive and I'd recommend playing on hard.
The tone is markedly different from the later games. There's certainly gray morality, but it's not exaggerated as much, and feels more "organic," in a way. The story has a really unique feel, combining the feeling of a classical epic with subtle social commentary which the later games focus on more.
Some of the dialogue, cutscenes, and such is silly, and I wouldn't call it a classic, but The Witcher is a great game and a very worthy start to the series. If you haven't done so, check it out.

I have tried every fix on the internet trying to get this game to run in fullscreen. -dontforceminreqs fix means no AA, even with the texture mod fix. On top of that, the highest resolution I can play at is 1400x900, I've even tried to use programs to force borderless, fullscreened, mouse didn't work. I'm over it... getting a refund, found a 1080p60fps The witcher 'movie' on youtube, created a shortcut to it on my desktop. will watch it then start TW2.

As a sidenote: I recently moved to PC gaming from consoles, and games like this, that aren't available on console, are a HUGE reason why I decided to build a gaming pc, finally. This is the first game I've had problems with.... once again, I'm over it!! I can't believe CDPR hasn't fixed this....

Amazing game that sets up the rest of the series beautifully! Lots of fun references to the books if you've read them. Brilliant storyline that involves so many morally difficult decisions to choose from- and because of the alternative paths your story can take, the replay value is very high! I'd rate it a 9/10 :)

The Witcher 1...

This game is a very old and nostalgic game.
It was by far the most amazing game I played alongside witcher 2-3
The story is detailed,touching,mysterious.
Every action has a conseqence. Even the tinniest bit.
The game itself is adventurous and deep.

The Soundtrack..
There is something special about it.
It sounds and feels heavenly peaceful.

Do I recommend this game?
If it was the last day on earth and I had to replay 1 game until the end.
It would be this
So yes
I do.
