This game has an excellent aesthetic; background, animations, and sound all come together fantastically.
But coming to this game from a platformer like Super Meat Boy - with its incredibly tight, tuned controls - Rayman doesn't feel fun to play. Everything is too soft and sluggish. Attacks often interrupt flow rather than contribute and I frequently felt like I didn't have enough control of the character.
The difficulty also seems slightly mistuned. I think I'm pretty good at platformers (I have 100% in Super Meat Boy) and I found myself consistently missing the par for each course by only a few points. This makes replaying levels a tense affair as missing a single Lum can fill you with dread that its just cost you level's medal and you have to start the whole dreadful business over again.
I got excited in my playthrough as I finished the final island - hoping that the game was nearing its end - when it was revealed that I then had to revist every location again to beat the game. As if this didn't crush my sprits enough, my hard drive crashed and I lost my save. I no longer have any desire to play - let alone beat - this game.
