A nice, entry-level touhou-like bullet hell shoot 'em up, despite it's flaws.
Should you get this? Yes if you like danmaku (bullet hell) or would like to give the subgenre a try. No if you don't like the genre, moe-ish art, or games that go straight to gameplay without much lore, exposition, etc.

It has a very interesting way to provide challenge when it comes to patterns: Unlike touhou, which relies heavily on pure dodging/zoning, and on understanding boss-specific mechanics, eXceed 3rd attempts most of the time to scare or impress the player with the illusion of danger, rather than relying on pure execution on the player's part. A lot of patterns will look very tricky at first, but become really smooth to adapt to as they unravel, providing sudden, wide openings.
Less pixel-tight, grazing-heavy gameplay, and more observation and planning in general, compared to touhou.

+ Good soundtrack, not groundbreaking (using chord progressions that are popular in japanese osts and compos, without straying too far) but gives a really enjoyable and fitting ambience to the game
+ Decent and evolutive level design (the difficulty curve is really smooth, unlike touhou which often provides one with bosses that are too difficult or easy for their stage)
+ Really simple to understand and get used to, making it perfect for beginners who would like to get into bullet hell shmups without getting curbstomped by irregular difficulty curves and complex or unclear mechanics
+ Enjoyable feedback (depending on whether one will find the ridiculous amount of bonus pellets dropped by enemies a bothering eyesore, or a constant, positive stimulus)
+ Light fanservice, OK voice-acting
+ Replayability. Sh'mups like this one depend heavily on one's willingness to try higher difficulty levels.
+ Beautiful bullet patterns (which is a thing in many bullet hell shooters), even though they sometimes lack originality and aren't comparable to touhou's breathtaking patterns)

- Soundtrack does not loop smoothly, leaving in audio blanks which completely break the ambience and immersion
- Soundtrack sometimes doesn't even loop at all (looking at you, Celestia!), which is really awkward
- Forced, extremely small resolution
- Capped at 30fps, and poorly optimized (framedrops to ~15fps on 2015 middle-end machines when specific particles appear, for example when a boss dies)
- Seems to be a trend with sh'mups by very small japanese studios: Character artwork quality is bad (Often broken anatomy, perspective and shading/volume). At least it doesn't reach ZUN-levels of bad
- Character design is often quite bland
- Quite short (stages and bosses are in general shorter than what one can find in touhou and the likes), even though the replayability

Not a game for everyone i must say.
Its only a game for people who are bored or want something for killing time i think.
Not a real story.U just move forward and kill things up to the end of the game and yea done.
Theres nothing more.
If u want just something new this is for u. Its hard to play but once u have learned it its nothing special anymore

Exceed is the definition of a Bullet Hell. Its core gameplay is a lot like the Touhou Series and the game has its purpose of being a game like this. Unfortunately I am pretty bad at this kind of game, and I don't know where to fix my eyes. Sometimes I lose myself. But the game is good, I had some fun with it. It is pretty straightforward and short (in the right measure), but it has a lot of replay, if you like to challenge yourself with difficulties.

The game plays well and the soundtrack is pretty good, which is something that we expect of this kind of game. I do think the game is a bit too expensive, but you can still buy it and appreciate it, if you like this kind of game.

I will surely recommend.

I hate fun so I buy these bullet hell to torment myself with and drown in sprays of bullets because they're super fast and I deserve to die for playing these.
It's like Touhou or Ikaruga. those are like Space Invaders, except the screen is made of bullets and tears are streaming down your face because you keep dying because there are so many bullets.
The patterns are pretty.

Super fun bullet hell game. Also super short. I played it twice on easy in an hour. It has some great training wheels (autobomb and show hit box) that still lets you get the crazy bullet experience while feeling like you are a god of reflexes. 5 levels, 4 difficulties, lots of replay value. GREAT soundtrack.

Much better than the previous games in the series.

This is a solid bullet hell shooter with some interesting bullet patterns and flashy visuals.

This game really EXCEEDed my expectations.

It does everything a bullet hell shmup needs to do.

It's beautiful, fast paced, it has creative bullet patterns.

The music is excellent offering some rad tunes, it's some METAL stuff.

The gameplay offers a bullet grazing system that charges your special attack. Said special attack is good to clear the screen of the weaker enemies, which in turn increases your score multiplier which gives you more lives. In short, a fast paced game that rewards boldness and skill.

Of special note is how freaking awesome the bosses are. They scream crazy japanese nonsense throughout the entire fight to the sound of rad tunes all the while insane bullet patterns dance all around the screen.

Definitely give this one a try if you like bullet hell shmups. And if you don't, give it a try too because it might be the game that introduces you to how incredible the genre can be.

I'd say that this is a must buy for every danmaku fan that has a Steam account.
The gameplay is fun and challenging, the graphics are pretty good too and the music is absolutely fantastic.
I'd say that it's a 8.5/10, at least it is for me.

And it's cheap, so if you like the Touhou series, Ikaruga, Deathsmiles or even DoDonPachi you won't get disappointed.

The third (and so far final) game in the eXceed series, Jade Penetrate Black Package is 100% fan service. From the outrageous number of bullets that fill the screen, to the cute girls wearing compromising clothing, it knows what it is and who it's targeted to, and that is actually a good thing.

Opting to refine not redefine it's basic gameplay, eXceed 3rd ditches the 2nd game's color swapping mechanic in favor of simple raw shoot-em-up action. There is some depth to be found in utilizing a lock on move that cuts down your movement speed, but generally speaking you'll be holding down the shoot button and just trying to stay alive through the torrent of blue and read particles blowing up around you.

Despite being simpler than its immediate predecessor, this is easily the most enjoyable and satisfying of the series. The overly dramatic story proves unintentionally hilarious, the graphics 16-bit eye candy, and the soundtrack once again setting the bar for games in this genre (really, it's incredible). The one downside is that it's quite short even for a bullet-hell game, but given the high difficulty even on easy, there's the potential for lots of replayability as you improve and take on the higher levels.

If you've enjoyed either of the prior eXceed games, or just like bullet-hell shooters in general you can't go wrong with Jade. This is the culmination of everything the developer has worked toward with the eXceed games, and as far as I'm concerned the best of the lot. It might be traditional in design, and perhaps even exploitative in nature, but taken for what it is I'd find it hard not to recommend it for fans. Because again that's what it is: pure unadulterated fan service of the best kind!

Third time is definitely the charm. This is, in my opinion, the best of the eXceed series. It's more fast-paced and challenging, the soundtrack is catchy and befitting of the chaos on-screen, and it's probably the easiest to get into. There are so many positives that it almost makes me forget about the problems that plagued the first game (though one again, you'll need Microsoft Application Compatibility Tool to get this game optimized for newer machines). All-in-all, the eXceed series is a great series of bullet-hell shooters, and they saved the best for last. I can't believe it took me almost a year to get to this game (bought this game back in October, but only now have I gotten around to trying out the eXceed series).
