About This Game

The human powers-that-be called for the purification of mankind and the eradication of vampires and ‘deviants bloodlines’ - those born of a mix of human and vampire. And so began massive purges of the deviants that were reminiscent of the 'witch hunts' of centuries earlier. Leading the genocide was the exorcist corps the 'Gun Bullet Children'.

As the overwhelmingly large human armies began to obliterate every vampire and deviant community across the world, the opposing deviant armies sought to gather allies and rally back. Ria File is a half-human, half-vampire girl fighting on the side of the deviants as they embark upon a turnaround strategy, the 'Siege on the Holy Land'. Their plan: to lay siege upon the humans’ 'Holy Land' and to destroy the Holy Lady Anhel who was the source of the human military power. This is a battle in which defeat is an option for neither army.

Featuring an addictive dual-polarity gameplay system, this amazing vertical shmup is sure to please any shooter fan. The polarity and color of your character can be changed to absorb enemy bullets of the same polarity while charging the special weapon in the process and doing double damage to enemies of the opposite polarity. Every bullet absorbed charges your special weapon for total destruction. With awesome music, beautiful art, and challenging stages, this game that put the eXceed series on the map and has everything you would want from a shmup.

I'll be reviewing this one of the three because it is the best of them, even if they are all bad.

The second game is best because you can switch between absorbing red projectiles and being hurt by blue, and vice versa, which is pretty cool and I don't know why they dropped it for the third game. Even still, the games are too hard, even on easy mode. Some of us have jobs and don't have time to invest into playing the same level over and over to perfect it. No, I'm not going to keep playing it to prove to the internet I'm a "hardcore gamer who appreciates a challenge XD". Suck my ♥♥♥♥ if you think hard games are fun simply because they're hard. If a level wasn't fun the first time, why it would be fun the 20th time is a mystery to me.

A person basically combined Touhou and Ikaruga.

This is because that person hates you.

This game is amazing! To me, it's a combination of my old favorite vertical scrolling games like Touhou, Raiden, and Gradius (I know this ain't exactly vertical scrolling). On the hardest mode ever, it is still pretty punishing for me, but there is a storyline as you fight through levels and I know I will be playing this game a lot when I have the time to. If you are into the three games I mentioned above, this game is worth a try.

Bad parts of the game? Of course...
-This game runs 30 fps but is intended to run 60! Running the game at 30 fps makes all the bullets move slowly... There are fixes to fix this issue permanently. Players will have to find a fix and apply it to the game so the game runs with bullets as intended.

Verdict: 9.5/10. Players should not have to go through the trouble to fix the game they just bought. Other than that, this game is very awesome.

Ok, this one ties into the first one (obviously) except you're playing VS. the original cast of gun bullet children.
Nice!
VERY WELL DONE. Fixed fps, smooth gameplay, very tricky
(no spoilers, but this one's a bit unique!)
decent storyline, very fun!
good soundtrack, good graphics (for this type)
I'm 100% impressed by this for a bullet hell.
(plus, being able to whomp the good guys from the first one is a nice spin)
excellent sequel.

Before you start complaining, this came out before Ikaruga by about a few months.
This game is better because it has lolis in it

A pretty decent danmaku shooter that has a black/white color swap mechanic similar to Ikaruga, an excellent soundtrack and animu girls with horrific saucer eyes. If you like dem Touhous then it's probably worth dropping a few bucks on either this or the bundle pack for all 3 games in the series.

eXceed 2nd - Vampire REX is a remake of the game eXceed 2nd - Vampire and is (duh) the second game in the series. It puts you in charge of guiding Ria File, a half-human, half-vampire, through the levels as the Church tries to take her out. In this game, you'll go against the three characters of the last game (Tinata, Sowel, and Miyabi). This game is more forgiving, because Ria has the power to absorb both colored bullets (blue and red) to charge up a special attack. Though the game is easier than the first game, and possibly a little easier than the third, I haven't made it passed Stage 4. The game is a bullet hell, I've never been good with bullet hells, but I love playing them. The music is oustanding and definitely should be played while playing the game to get the most out of the intensity that is within this game just waiting to unleash. 5/5 from me.

Why is this my favorite bullet curtain?

Classical mixed with dance/rock/techno/metal music. Has a reoccurring theme.
Difficulty increases the better you do. It feels awesome when it happens, then you die and it resets O.o
Polarity switching, just like Ikaruga.
Shotgunning.
Bomb fills up fast if you eat a lot of bullets.
Pretty colors.
Decent voice acting (Japanese with English subs).
Actually has a story which is completely skippable.
Flowing sprite animations.
Bosses have completely different feels which pull you in as you fight them. They aren't just random spaceships or monsters.
Second to last boss is undescribably mindblowing and symphonic. Dance with the bullets or die.

So on, so forth.

For a game that's basically Anime Ikaruga, it's pretty neat! Don't get me wrong, Ikaruga is pretty great, but playing it, it sometimes feels like the switching mechanic was enough for them and they never really got super crazy with the patterns. It also feels a bit slow, to me. This game takes that stuff, and then runs with it. It's got nice/pretty/nasty patterns, dynamic difficulty, and the graphics and sound are pretty damn good for a doujin shmup. Worth picking up!

In comparison to the prequel.. This is so much more enjoyable. Still pretty damn hard, but fun. It takes time to learn how to effectively swap affinity-colors in order to survive the hellstorm at first. Pretty alright game! But it's pretty outdated in terms of configuration, options and etc.

Honestly, this plays like a much uglier, much looser Ikaruga. The art style is unpleasant, not simply because of its anime roots, but because it's just bland. The story is awful, though, thankfully, it can be disabled (and has to be every time you start a new game). The bullet patterns are pretty average Doujin shmup fair. The polarity mechanic accomplishes nothing but to distract you from the standard practice of dodging, because the stage design isn't tight enough and, frankly, doesn't really do anything interesting with it. Honestly, for not a lot more, you can pick up Ikaruga, which is a classic for a reason. This game is just really rough around the edges, which I personally don't think works for a shmup with this many bullets on-screen at once.

Fans of Ikaruga will love this game for what it is. Fans of poor resolution options will also like this game as well. This game alone excels at bringing those two audiences together. That is a feat unacheived by most titles throughout history.
