About This Game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

To The Moon
Possibly and very much my favorite game of all time, if not one of the best games of all time. It brings out so much emotion in the player that it feels that you are inside of the game. You are part of the story

Of course the absolutely amazing soundtrack makes the game even better. Each key played brings joy, sadness, or wonder to your eyes.

I haven't beaten the story yet but I can say this from where I am so far (At the time of writing this review) This games's story is amazing. An old man wanting to go to the moon, and many other parts of it which I will not spoil make it work perfectly with itself.

Intro
To the Moon is a fictional story RPG Maker "game" about 2 "doctors" who are helping their dying patient to fulfill their wish. You'll mostly walk around and interact with objects while focusing on the story. There are some mini games which will happens quite a lot in the game.

Music
I really love the piano song which was made by the patient. The song is really suitable with the titles. The other bgms are also pleasant to hear and doesn't hinder you to listen to the story.

Graphics
Just like any other RPG Maker games, the game itself is in 2D sprites, with some cutscenes in it. The cutscenes' art itself is quite inconsistent which can be seen by the difference in quality. One cutscene has a very thick line and the other has a light line. The coloring also looks different. Besides that, the art is good looking, especially if you like sprites.

Story
The story is set in an unrealistic setting, where you can travel to a certain person memories and run a simulation in order to change it. Sometimes, the story will talk about jargon in their own world, such as Beta Blocker, which is somehow like an item to supress your memories, and the disease which doesn't even explained what it is about (i missed the name). There are a lot of jokes in the story, and some touching part which maybe can make you cry. The game itself still has a lot of unrevealed mysteries and written as Episode 1 in the ending, which might mean that there will be a continuation.

You'll mostly travel through your patient's memories and finding item to go back to the older memories. After it becomes quite repetitive, it will stop and fills you with a bunch of story with a few mini games. The balance between story and the interaction is quite decent and it won't make you sleep because of boredom.

Mini games
There are around 3 mini games in this game, which one being used most of the time. The mini games itself is quite simple and easy to understand, although one mini game (the puzzle one) can be quite hard to master. However, you are not required to do that in order to progress through the story.

Pros:
- Mini games
- Interaction balanced with the story

Cons:
- Long (and slow) walk to reach the objective

Summary
It's a fictional story with a lot of jokes and a bit of touching story in it. There are still unexplained mysteries in this game, which maybe will be covered in the next episode (which i believe hasn't been released yet).

Should you buy this game?
Yes.
That's if you like touching story and a "game" which mostly consists of a story.

"To the Moon" is more of an interactive short story than a game, but it is a surprisingly good story, an easy achievement, and does have some gameplay (there in no fighting, but there IS roadkill).

The achievement is essentially for completing the game. It took me about 4 hours to casually go through the story, so it is an easy 100% completion game.

8/10 - story (a little slow to get into but overall worth it--some decent humor that helps break up all of the drama)
7/10 - gameplay (clever, but minimal and repetative - buy this for story, not gameplay which includes finding items, npcs, and a few easy puzzles to solve in a small area)

While I doubt I will play this again, it was well worth a couple bucks and one playthrough for the unique experience. :]

I've written two reviews in my years on Steam. This is one of them. This game is touching to your very core and the music is wonderful. I streamed it on Twitch with a few viewers and everyone was enthralled, constantly trying to figure out what was actually going on and what we weren't being told. And we were all wrong. And I'm glad we were wrong, because the ending was much better than anything I had thought of.

This story will stay with you.

Got this game from a friend. But honestly, I'd pay 20$ for it.
It starts off slow, but after about 30 minutes of playtime, you are exposed to the most beautiful, thrilling and exciting story.
It got me to reconnect with some of my long forgotten dreams, and it made me cry. A lot.
The soundtrack is beautiful, and I still listen to it whenever I'm down.

If you finish this game and don't like it, you are dead to me.

Bravo! Bravo!

Beautiful! Emotionally captivating. Please make more!

Controlls are a bit iffy - I switched between mouse/keyboard and gamepad frequently; Doesnt take away from the experience though.

Slightly clunky controls and occasional glitches are completely overshadowed by the amazing story. I don't think i've been this moved by a game since The Walking Dead S1. It doesn't take very long to complete but feels longer than it's length and can drag at times. The gameplay itself is mediocre rpgmaker type point and click with some arbitrary puzzles placed throughout. This in no way deteriates from the story though, with a steady ramp up to a heart wrenching finale this is one of the best stories i've ever played.

A very well written and executed story, filled with very dramatic and funny moments, accompanied by an amazing and mesmerizing soundtrack.
