Its mechanics haven't aged very well. Or at all. It controls horribly, in all honesty. It'll be frustrating for anyone who hasn't played it before. That being said, it is beautiful and stylish and absolutely worth experiencing, just to understand the brilliant character that made it such a cult classic. It's not always a fun game to play, but it is a great game. Just pick it up on sale and hope that the arguably more refined Xbox sequel gets ported as well. Also, a controller is mandatory.

Awesome enviornments, characters, story, music, premise. Pretty much everything about this game is amazing except for one thing: The controls.
It feels like your skates are lubicated with toothpaste, there's lots of wind everywhere that changes velocity constantly, and the ground has an inch thick layer of mud covering it entirely.

Another classic Dreamcast game. Another classic SEGA game, for that matter.

If you expect this to be at all similar to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater... then you're sorely mistaken.

"Mr. Osaki asks, 'how do I get rid of these nasty roaches,' easy, just burn your house down!" -DJ Professor K, in-game soundtrack DJ and story narrator.

Being a release from well over a decade and a half ago (2000), you can't expect much in the graphics department, but even then, they're nothing to scoff at. The combination of bright, colorful artwork, cel shaded models, and heavily atmospheric level design makes it a quite remarkable display.

Whereas most games provide a flagship visual style, Jet Set Radio goes one step further and banks heavily off of the amazing soundtrack, featuring incredible remixes, and Hideki Naganuma's excellent tracks.

The plot is perhaps too short to explain in a review without spoiling the game, but I'd recommend watching the trailers to get a sound idea of what the gameplay will be like.

Just a few things to point out before you buy,

-The game speed is tied to 30FPS. Any attempt to run the game at 60FPS will result in the game running at 200% speed.

-A controller is absolutely necessary. If you don't have a 360 controller, use a PS3 controller with Better DS3 Tool.

-The camera can be a bit wonky at times. Use the left trigger to straighten it out.

-Jet Set Radio Future, SEGA's 2002 XBox exclusive is worth buying an old XBox for. Seriously. Check that out if you enjoyed this game.

To say this game is great would be an understatement. As someone who played the original game on the Sega Dreamcast at release, it still holds up perfectly. The music, visual style, graphics and gameplay are fantastic! My only complaint is that this version of the game is missing one of the songs from the original version of the game. The controlls aren't the most responsive compared to modern standards, but this is a game from a bygone era and is understandable. I dont mark it as a flaw. Overall it's easily in the best 50 games of all time category. ...Although its not as great as it's sequel 'Jet Set Radio Future' (which, btw, REALLY needs an HD release on PC). If you like truly great games with soul, heart, and style, you owe it to yourself to play this game. Hopefully we'll get that HD re-release on PC ...along with Shenmue 1 & 2. What!? A man can dream, right!?!?

This would be a better game if it didn't follow the Dreamcast game tradition of being clunky as all hell. It's right up there with Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.
I only wish Future was available on pc.

The bug that previously made it impossible to save apears to have been fixed, returning Jet Set Radio to the fantastic game it is.
Ageless art-style and classic gameplay have makes JSR feel like a nostalgia trip, even though this is my first playthrough of the game.
