About This Game

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is set in 2011, one year prior to the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.

A group of stalkers, for the first time, reaches the very heart of the Zone-the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-and triggers a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. An immense blast of anomalous energy transforms the Zone: the once reliable and relatively safe roads are no longer so, the landscape is wiped clean by outbursts of anomalies, and previously unknown areas appear on the Zone map. Stalkers and expeditions perish or end up isolated within the lost territories.

With the anomalous activity at its maximum, the unstable Zone continues to tremor with outbursts. The transformation of the Zone map destabilizes the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence flare up among groups. There are no more old enemies or friends - now, everyone watches out only for themselves. The Factions War has begun.

The protagonist is a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and even the Zone itself. The main character experiences the key role in the events that led to the creation of the Zone right up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins.

What new challenges await stalkers within the depths of the new zone? Why do anomalous outbursts continue to rattle the Zone, and what can be done to stop them? Which faction will take the upper hand in the Factions War? These and many other questions will be answered in the official prequel - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

A story from when I had a non-Steam copy of the game, the I posted as a comment in a thread back in 2013:

"I do have one specific memory of Clear Sky being creepy.
I was wandering around in the Red Forest, minding my own business. I noticed it was getting close to night, so I made my way to the group of Duty guys at the edge of the forest. When I got there, there were 2 of them dead, and one bleeding out on the ground.
I heard dogs, and saw them dragging one of the dead bodies back into the forest. Then, I heard a bloodsucker woosh from behind, and immediately ran to the guy bleeding out, healed him, and we tried to fight together.
That didn't last long as he got killed by the bloodsucker just 5 seconds after I healed him. I ran to the building, went up the stairs, basically cornered myself to the wall, got out my shotgun, and waited until morning. Every now and then, I would think the bloodsucker was gone, try to leave, only to hear that grunting/snorting sound and a woosh again, reminding me to stay put.
Eventually, it was morning, a lone Duty guy came back to take the building over again and it was over.
Remember, this was all while it was pitch black out at night and before I even knew what a bloodsucker was."

Clear Sky is the futuristic version of SoC, trying its best to reach a closer feel to realistic progression.. with its PDA interface and interactions fixed, progression for fast travel access, more exploration contents and seriously worthwhile sidequest, while maintaining its gameplay for players to struggle in pleasantry entertainment, more than ever. Basically, a whole new of pros along with cons are brought in together as a form of remaster and revamp while delivering its usual gameplay feel.

realisticly siding, there is:
-fail covers/barricades
+better graphic
-stronger aimbot
+grenades shower
-same guns,
+harder weight management
-harder enemies/stronger AI mechanism
+better objectives
+more deadly hazardous areas
+less RU
+less gear
+derp-ier AI team npc

though biasly, pros and cons assumed balanced, the only thing left is the gameplay difficulty aspects for players to judge, if you're hardcore at most fps, this is a recommend for its difficulty, I'm not sure about the contrary though...

8/10 would get stuck in a pit of rocks in the middle of the dark night again.

Well for the most part its a fine game got some good stuff in it. mostly pointed at kids who think you get to walk away after being filled with bullet holes. get a real ballistics mod so you actually take damage and you can deal it as well.

if i hadnt gotten a deal on this game i would have been very angry!

as it is wait till it costs a buck and then buy it or buy it in a bundle but dont pay full price for it, IMO its OK but nothing special.

if you are thinking this one is in any way SOC you will be sadly disillusioned, do not expect you heart rate to rise or to jump in your seat for most of the game. this isnt even the calaber of halflife. but its OK (probably because i am addicted to SOC is why i would recommend this game)

so i will recommnd it ish IMO it shouldnt be a stalker game they could have simply called it faction wars and been done with it sold it to the kiddies and made more money than making it a stalker game.

Pros:

-Absolutely amazing atmosphere and sceneries.
-Very immersive game.
-Great gameplay, lots of guns, armors, artefacts.
-Interesting story and deep lore.
-Very hard missions but satisfying when you finally complete them.
-Huge replayability with Faction Wars and side quests.
-Cheeki Breeki.
-Good music, proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBhh23-paLU

Cons:

-Lots of bugs (not to the point where it's unplayable, you just have to save really often and optimally make multiple save files).
-Unsatisfying ending.
-Enemies will always throw their grenades perfectly at you, it's unreal.

Definitely recommend it.

This is one of the best games I have played, It brings out what most games these days are trying to do but does it in a manner of greatness, this is clearly the better game comparred to SoC.

Note: This review is for the vanilla Stalker Clear Sky.

Stalker Clear Sky is the prequel entry to the series, the game has you play as a Merc named Scar, who survives a large emission storm and is trying to find Strelok before he reaches the center of the zone. Stalker Clear Sky is a hit and miss for many fans of the series as it introduces some great ideas and makes some questionable decisions. While many consider the intro segment an example of the games flaws, I did not find myself dying that much but I can see why players dislike Clear Sky. The intro segment in the swamps is unlike any Stalker game as it has the player in a specific area, running errands, and doing very little exploring. Getting into gunfights more frequently and constantly finding myself against large enemy groups with a double barrel was kinda ridiculous. There are also a lot of questionable decisions which would leave new players to the series baffled as the first entry route to Cordon will have a player against an army base and the player was suppose to know to take a different path in. Minor decisions like that are what makes Clear Sky a fustrating experience. Another horrible decision was to make bandages rare as heck and needing mutiple amounts of them to plug up one injury. Clear Sky does however bring the faction system and uses it fairly well. Players are encouraged to join factions to gain access to better gear and is a core aspect of the game. The PDA is better in Clear Sky compared to SoC. Clear Sky however performs the worst of all Stalker games as I had constant crashes and error messages in my playthrough. Interesting to note is that Clear Sky looks the best of all vanilla Stalker games as it has some impressive dynamic lighting, great amount of vegetation on screen with an impressive draw distance.

Pros:
- The new faction system is a good idea and used well.
- Weapons can be upgraded and modified.
- Large amount of Hub worlds compared to the other Stalkers.
- Many factions exist to make the faction system useful.
- The FoV effect/motion blur when reloading and moving looks amazing.
- Visually impressive for a near decade old game.
- Great to revisit areas before the events of the first game.
- Gunplay is tight and requires players to play slow.

Cons:
- No hunger system, this makes food an alternative to medical kits which makes no sense whatsoever.
- Bandages and Anti rad became rare which can create very fustrating moments of dying slowly.
- The worst intro segment in any Stalker game and maybe difficult enough to make players quit out right.
- Auto save is poor so spam that F5 key.
- The akward natural difficulty curve of the game may throw off players.
- Crash city and error messages galore.
- Bugs.
- While the gunplay is tight, pistols cannot have aim down sights...
- Ai has the habit in the starting sequence of turning shotguns into sniper rifles while you cannot do the same (get some slugs).
- No tutorial so please new comers do not get this game first.

Clear Sky isn't the worst game I have played and is enjoyable at times. However, the many questionable decisions that Clear Sky made in its game can make it a test of patience and sometime push it a little too far. Clear Sky does get easier as the player progresses and while Clear sky does not differ to much from SoC, SoC executed its concepts/mechanics correctly. SoC may have a difficult beginning segment also, but the way SoC handled healing items and made the difficulty scale naturally was great. Certain areas in SoC were loaded with harder enemies so you came back when you had the gear to go toe to toe with them. Clear Sky throws military units armed with AKs or Akabans whIle you just managed to leave the beg inning hub world. Clear Sky has some idea of what SoC was trying to do but is recommended for the veteran Stalker player. If your new to the series, start with SoC or heck even CoP, but save Clear Sky for last cause it will smack you around.

Ever since a young age I have been playing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and to this day I play and love each of the three games. I've completed them all countless times and still enjoy the fantastic moody and eerie atmosphere. It's open-world and features and inventory with equippable weapons and protective suits all of which are upgradable and have conditions which must be repaired. The best way I could describe this game is like a Ukrainian twist on the Fallout games. The story isn't fantastic, voice acting is minimal and the game isn't a refined masterpiece but every gameplay element makes up for it from searching for rare artifacts to helping your faction in faction wars. The world is large and full of action and exploration in each part.
With the amount of hours I've spent in this game both on steam and the retail copy I owned, I feel that it's worth every penny I spent.
