S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is set in 2011, one year prior to the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.
A group of stalkers, for the first time, reaches the very heart of the Zone-the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-and triggers a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. An immense blast of anomalous energy transforms the Zone: the once reliable and relatively safe roads are no longer so, the landscape is wiped clean by outbursts of anomalies, and previously unknown areas appear on the Zone map. Stalkers and expeditions perish or end up isolated within the lost territories.
With the anomalous activity at its maximum, the unstable Zone continues to tremor with outbursts. The transformation of the Zone map destabilizes the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence flare up among groups. There are no more old enemies or friends - now, everyone watches out only for themselves. The Factions War has begun.
The protagonist is a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and even the Zone itself. The main character experiences the key role in the events that led to the creation of the Zone right up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins.
What new challenges await stalkers within the depths of the new zone? Why do anomalous outbursts continue to rattle the Zone, and what can be done to stop them? Which faction will take the upper hand in the Factions War? These and many other questions will be answered in the official prequel - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

Catching up on my PC video gaming has been something of a spiritual journey for me. I have found my highs, my lows and then there has been a special place that doesn’t quite measure on the spectrum. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky seems to take that measurement system and throw it out the 10th storey window. I want to put it somewhere on the bar with the likes of Half-Life 2, but then no, it doesn’t quite add up. Whilst the game mechanics are very similar at times, I find myself comparing it more to Metro:2033… then again it often feels more like Fallout 3. There’s no denying it has similarities but doesn’t quite match any of them individually. The game has found a very small pocket within the genre to carve out its own place in game history as a deftly challenging, gritty & unique game. It combines elements of successful titles and throws them all together creating something new, inspiring, very challenging & brutal.

It is proof of truly evolved gaming that was made by gamers who have a great understanding of games & have refined it in a very Russian way. Cold, calculative & ultimately, brilliant.

I'm just going to stress that Clear Sky isn't as good as Shadow of Chernobyl or Call of Pripyat. It has numerous problems. Not the least of which is just a lack of focus. It recycles half of Shadow of Chernobyl's maps and has a less interesting story to boot.

However, bearing all that in mind it is priced 10$ cheaper and features a rather unique "faction war" mechanic. This mechanic essentially has it so that all the different factions in the Zone do battle with each other in real time. The player can join a faction if they so desire, and doing so gives them ready access to better equipment and more friendly areas in the Zone. All in the hopes of taking over the Zone through pure conquest.

The faction war mechanic is extremely well done in this game, and is the reason why anyone plays Clear Sky to this day. Whether it is worth getting is really up to you, since it is the awkward middle child in the series.

Pack up your ammo, buy a few cans of food, get a new rifle, you will also need a pair of extra pants if you are not ready.... this game will test you, will make your senses more accute to all the sounds and sight of the post-apocalyptic Chernobyl area where once peaceful dogs are now vicious wolves, friendly villagers turned into horrible creatures who will either stomp you, drive you insane, throw heavy objects at you or simply try to have your blood as apple juice, deadly anomalies and radiation now reside in places where some time back children where playing and where people where buying groceries are now living reluctant factions of this so called ''Zone of alienation'' a Zone where people are now animals, animals are now mutants and everything wants to have you DEAD, you can either make powerful friends and have the bitterest of enemies, be neutral and stay out of everything but you won't get anything special or make everybody an enemy and MAKE THEM FEAR YOU, have your own style, but beware of the friends, more than you are afraid of the enemies, the rating for this game is 10/10, one last thing.... Good hunting stalker!

All three of the STALKER games are some of the best games of all time. Highly immersive and open ended gameplay that lasts forever.
