Outlaw Sectors brings new maps and gameplay options to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion

Outlaw Sectors DLC is here with a new gameplay option and lots of new maps

Challenge yourself with new strategies and unique setups with the new “Outlaw Sectors” gameplay option and brand new maps for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. The variety of map sizes and designs will let you enjoy any kind of match you want, from intimate 1v1 duels all the way to epic 10-player brawls.

Gameplay Options

The lawless fringe is increasingly hostile, but for those with a criminal mind it's also rich with new opportunities.

Smuggling Specialization: Choose this planetary development to grab a cut of everyone's trade income - but at a cost. The increased corruption from this black market activity will reduce that planet's tax income.

Rampant Militias: Autonomous planetary militias will grow, raid nearby systems, and repopulate over time. Use them to help defend your worlds, or coordinate your attacks with their strikes for maximum impact.

Pirate Turf: Vicious when in their home sector, pirates can now raid multiple players simultaneously, drastically changing the art of the bidding war. And, just to make sure they are fully motivated to do what they do best, all credits spent on bounties will receive an automatic bonus.

Included Maps
Power Struggle - Contest the distant resource fields and nearby planets before striking at the enemy’s homeworld.
Slim Pickings - Claim what remains among the war-torn stars and seize what you can from the other empires.
Crossfire - Take your enemy’s homeworlds and coordinate your assault with your ally in order to win.
High Stakes - Build a powerful fleet and seize the resource rich planets from enemy militia.
Ironheart - Flanked by an enemy on each side, you must prioritize your resources carefully to achieve victory.
Titans of Cimtar - Secure your planet from among the 8 gas giants dominating the map, then make war upon your neighbors.
Death Spiral - The system is falling into a black hole and your enemies aren’t about to let you leave without a fight.
Dogfight - Lead your allies into glorious battle amongst the stars in this huge map.
Buzzsaw - Make one mistake and you may lose more than you bargained for in this spiral galaxy that leaves no room for error.
Rising Empires - Secure your star system amidst the crushed local resistance and set your sights on your rivals’ territories.
Desolation - Claim what little the Vasari have left behind and forge what remains of the worlds in the massive cluster of stars into a force capable of conquest.

Outlaw Sectors DLC is now available on Steam or through Stardock.

About This Game

The Next Installment to the Award-Winning RTS.
While many were hopeful that diplomacy would finally end the war, differing opinions on what should be done, along with the depleted power of the controlling factions, has led to a splintering of the groups involved.

The loyalist members of the Trader Emergency Coalition adopt a policy of isolation, focusing on enhanced defenses to ride out the rest of the war. Those who rebel against the coalition take on a purely militant view, coming to the opinion that the only way to bring peace is by ultimately crushing all who oppose them - especially xenos.

For the first time in their history, the war creates a schism in the Advent Unity. The loyalists seek to continue their policy of revenge against the Traders, and to assimilate all others to the Unity’s influence. However, others amongst the Advent suspect that a corrupting influence from within has diverted the Unity from its proper destiny.

The divide created in the Vasari Empire is less pronounced, but just as severe to their people. With the Vasari now practically frantic to move on to new space, the loyalist faction abandons cooperation and decides to take the resources they need by any means necessary. Having accepted the need to work together, the rebel faction feels that their best chance for survival is to work with the other races and bring them along to flee the approaching enemy.

Take the battle for galactic supremacy to its ultimate level in Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion – a standalone RT4X game that combines the tactics of real-time strategy with the depth of the 4X genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate).

Key features:

  • New Factions: Decide whether to play as a Loyalist or Rebel – each unlocks new technologies, ships and play styles for each race.
  • New Titan Class Warships: Mighty titans enter the fray of the war to tip the scales of power. Each faction may field their own unique titan, drawing upon unique strengths and abilities on the battlefield.
  • New and Updated Capital Ships: A new capital ship joins the fleet for each race to offer even more tactical options. Additionally, all existing capital ships have been upgraded to four levels for their abilities, allowing players to focus their ships along specific strengths.
  • New Corvette Class Ships: Small and maneuverable, each faction has developed a new light attack craft to harass enemy forces.
  • Updated Visuals: Updated graphics, particle effects, lighting and shadows, race specific UI and other enhancements make the Sins’ universe look better than ever.
  • New Victory Conditions: Take multiple paths to victory including – Military, Diplomatic, Research, Last Flagship Standing, Last Capital Standing and Occupation.
  • New Audio: More than 60 minutes of original music, countless new sound effects and dozens of new voice overs help bring the drama of battle to new levels of immersion.
  • Tutorials: New and updated tutorials make it easy for both experienced and new players to quickly start building their own solar empire.
  • Plus, a number of optimizations that provide better performance than ever before!

Only downside is that there is no campaign. Mechanics and micro management are very easy to get used to and are not very overwhelming.

If you like realtime strat and space this is your game. Sucks that they seem to put this on a back burner. My friend and I play this thing atleast once every couple months, the balace between the factions is pretty darn good.

This is a fantastic game, but I can't recommend it because it gets to be very repetitive after a while, and it doesn't support Linux. Also, there are large performance issues if you're running on larger maps, even on fairly modern builds. This is compounded if you're running on a laptop, as I had to most of the time.

I normally find RTS for 4X space games a big turn off mainly due to the genre not balancing the elements of the game well and high reliances on quick reflexes which makes it more of an arcade experience than 4X.

So before providing my review, I wanted to thoroughly spend time with this game to see if it was as good as others have said. Well, lets just say I lost track of time. :)

Boy do I really love this game - even over some turn based 4X games! And it's still something I enjoy coming back to!

There is a lot of depth and strategy with appropriate pacing to keep the RTS component manageable for even older folk like me. As others have mentioned, even as your empire grows, you are not bogged down with managing your planets and fleets. Ironclad strikes a good balance here.

And the ship combat is such a joy to watch! Watching large armadas mixed with starbases and titans going all out is an epic experience every time.

If you normally prefer 4X turn based games and are looking for a RTS to try out, I highly recommend this game. It will really give you your money's worth. I recommend you start easy to get the hang of things before hitting the harder difficulties. Also, play each faction. This will help you better understand their strengths and weakness before settling on your favorite. Cheers and have fun!

This game has given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment to the extent that I actually payed for the game twice. First time I got it was DRM free playing local multiplayer with 4 friends in my college dorm. My favorite memory was teaming up with 2 of them on our first very hard lard random map. I quietly built up my culture as Advent reminding tham that they do in fact recieve the culture bonuses from an ally. The last AI was about to die, friends' fleets are dwindled and and their economy in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from fleet upkeep. Tell team that it is time to start the pvp and end the ceasefire. Proceed to max out all my starbases in asteroid belts for max culture. Friends start fighting eachother because I was objectively "weaker." I wasnt until they lost most of thier planets from the sheer force of the Advent cultre machine. They grouped up against me but failed to hold even planet even with maxed culture buildings on their homeworlds and domination victory was achieved. 8 hours of long con never felt so good.

5/7 would purchase again.

My hours do not do my playtime of this game justice, I have over 300+ hours on stardocks launcher before the steam release.

This game is the BEST space strategy game ever released. Perfect mix of RTS, 4X, and even some RPG elements. Every map isnt just a game, its a story of your empire and how you choose to build it. Some matches will be a fast blitzkreig of domination, others will be a drawn out war filled with diplomacy and betrayal. Some matches i emerge victorious and the sole empire, but most I will have been destroyed and defeated by my enemies, watching my planets and fleets fall to the overwhelming enemy. I cant write a review of this game without gushing its every praise, so this is a love poem to Sins and Stardock. Thank you for making this game.

Only 2 negatives in the endless streams of positives
-End game slowdown with large fleets is inevitable, I have a GTX 970NVIDIA and I still get slowdown
-No definitive campaign or storymode.

GET THIS GAME NOW, on sale or fullprice its worth it dont worry.

Sins of a Solar Empire has consumed many hours of my time, all of it worth it. Before I started playing some of the many mods available, the vanilla version was very simple to get involved in and the learning curve wasn't to harsh. I eventually found Sins to be addicting and devoted many hours to playing.

I eventually moved onto mods. Specifically: Sins of a Galactic Empire; one of several Star Wars mods available, but the one I found suited to my kind of "fun."

Some Features:

- Large Matches, up to 8 players, either with friends, other players, or AI (with varying types of AI difficulty sets)

- Different victory conditions for those who like to switch it up or like to change up how to win their game

- 3 vanilla factions to choose from, 2 sub-culture for each faction for different types of playthroughs

- Active mod community with varying amounts of mods that range from Halo to Star Wars to Star Trek

While this may be a dated game, a new DLC was recently released which was a nice surprise to find. So if you ever tire yourself of vanilla, you can certainly utilize the new DLC

You will lose some games and you will spend hours upon hours in some, it all depends on the challenge you set yourself up for.

I would recommend this game to any of my friends and certainly have already and play often when I have time. It's a great game with little flaws, but overall, it's a great game and it does what all games should do: provide fun.
