Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion v1.82 Released

Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment are pleased to announce the final release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion v1.82 today. This latest version addresses balance issues in the Stellar Phenomena DLC.

Changes include:

Stellar Phenomena DLC
  • Halved asteroidCounts on Graveyard and DenseDebris templates in AsteroidDef to improve performance.
  • Updated GalaxyScenarioDef uncolonizable gravity wells w/resources to be guarded by Pirates, not neutral factions.
  • Removed defenders from Antimatter Fountain.
  • Changed ShatteredMoon defender template from LocalMilitiaWeak to LocalMilitiaWeakUncolonizable.
  • Updated Allegiance progression in Gameplay.Constants on the later stages to drop by .05 on levels 7-8. This should help prevent very distant planets from instantly going neutral from Open Rebellion.
  • Added potential for 0-2 (from 0) neutral crystal extractors at Comets.
  • Increased minimum neutral crystal extractor count to 2 (from 1) at Ice Fields.
  • Increased minimum neutral metal/crystal extractor count to 1 (from 0) at Radiation Storms.
  • Increased minimum neutral metal extractor count to 1 (from 0) at Shattered Moon.
  • Increased random event allegiance check from 240 to 600 seconds. This should help prevent distant colonies from succumbing to Open Rebellion before the player can do anything about it.
  • Reduced minimum allegiance threshold for random events from 30% to 15%.
  • Increased max respawn count on Magnetic Storm from 4 to 9.
  • Increased max respawn count on Plasma Storm from 4 to 9.
  • Reduced trigger weight on Partisans event from 25% to 10%.
  • Reduced trigger weight on Open Rebellion event from 10% to 5%.
  • Reduced fleet point range on Open Rebellion event from 150/350 to 100/250.
  • Increased volume on random event warning sound by 3db.
  • Dramatically shortened Pulsar particle so that it doesn't touch other gravity wells and made the tails less sharp.
  • Removed Fighters from target list on Gas Giant's pre-explode buff since they can never lose it; will still take damage from nearby explosions.
  • Added new Commodity Boom random event: one random planet (including neutrals) may now undergo a resource boom where extractor and refinery rates are increased by 30% for 5 minutes. Should never appear on: Dead Asteroids, Pirate Bases, Antimatter Fountains, Magnetic Clouds or Wormholes. (Thanks to Goafan for the suggestion!)

Forbidden Worlds DLC
  • Removed 'Ferrus' from PlanetRandomUncolonizable in GalaxyScenarioDefs.
  • Removed 'FerrusFair' from PlanetRandomUncolonizableFair in GalaxyScenarioDefs.
  • Added new planet bonuses to GalaxyScenarioDefs (thanks Goafan!).
  • Changed Rusted Core planet bonus to no longer require points in exploration.

AI
  • Revised AI bonus income rates to try and scale less drastically past Normal.

Misc.
  • Updated SDActivate.exe so folks shouldn't need to open up IE if it fails on new installs.

About This Game

The Next Installment to the Award-Winning RTS.
While many were hopeful that diplomacy would finally end the war, differing opinions on what should be done, along with the depleted power of the controlling factions, has led to a splintering of the groups involved.

The loyalist members of the Trader Emergency Coalition adopt a policy of isolation, focusing on enhanced defenses to ride out the rest of the war. Those who rebel against the coalition take on a purely militant view, coming to the opinion that the only way to bring peace is by ultimately crushing all who oppose them - especially xenos.

For the first time in their history, the war creates a schism in the Advent Unity. The loyalists seek to continue their policy of revenge against the Traders, and to assimilate all others to the Unity’s influence. However, others amongst the Advent suspect that a corrupting influence from within has diverted the Unity from its proper destiny.

The divide created in the Vasari Empire is less pronounced, but just as severe to their people. With the Vasari now practically frantic to move on to new space, the loyalist faction abandons cooperation and decides to take the resources they need by any means necessary. Having accepted the need to work together, the rebel faction feels that their best chance for survival is to work with the other races and bring them along to flee the approaching enemy.

Take the battle for galactic supremacy to its ultimate level in Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion – a standalone RT4X game that combines the tactics of real-time strategy with the depth of the 4X genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate).

Key features:

  • New Factions: Decide whether to play as a Loyalist or Rebel – each unlocks new technologies, ships and play styles for each race.
  • New Titan Class Warships: Mighty titans enter the fray of the war to tip the scales of power. Each faction may field their own unique titan, drawing upon unique strengths and abilities on the battlefield.
  • New and Updated Capital Ships: A new capital ship joins the fleet for each race to offer even more tactical options. Additionally, all existing capital ships have been upgraded to four levels for their abilities, allowing players to focus their ships along specific strengths.
  • New Corvette Class Ships: Small and maneuverable, each faction has developed a new light attack craft to harass enemy forces.
  • Updated Visuals: Updated graphics, particle effects, lighting and shadows, race specific UI and other enhancements make the Sins’ universe look better than ever.
  • New Victory Conditions: Take multiple paths to victory including – Military, Diplomatic, Research, Last Flagship Standing, Last Capital Standing and Occupation.
  • New Audio: More than 60 minutes of original music, countless new sound effects and dozens of new voice overs help bring the drama of battle to new levels of immersion.
  • Tutorials: New and updated tutorials make it easy for both experienced and new players to quickly start building their own solar empire.
  • Plus, a number of optimizations that provide better performance than ever before!

Space Strategy enthusiasts rejoice: real-time strategy meets 4X rules in a seamlessly zoomable universe that hasn't looked or felt this polished since the original Homeworld game. Marketed as a stand-alone expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire, Rebellion basically sums up every mechanic introduced in every expansion to date - fight off pirates and opposing empires, establish trade routes, colonize or raise every planet in your solar system... and beyond. It has the same addictiveness as Civilization, in that you feel like you're playing a board game in which your faction fights to rule the universe using various tools or domination and manipulation, every match a new iteration in the array of destinies you can forge. On top of that, the space battles are impressive in both scale and effects: tons of freaking laser beams, rockets and machine gun fire keep you at the edge of your seat when a few hundred ships in your fleet meet a few hundred of your opponents' craft and clash in a display of fireworks that is so visceral and pretty it blows your brains out and leaves you slack jawed at the display of awesomeness.

BUY it if you:
-Enjoy RTS games and civ builders alike.
-Want to engage in large-scale space battles with budget hardware (the game's zoom function works like a miracle, letting you join in on epic skirmishes or zoom out to manage your home planet in the blink of an eye).
-Always wanted to recreate the Dominion assault on Deep Space Nine or some other notoriously nerdy science fiction scene you're almost embarassed you enjoy so much.

DO NOT BUY it if you:
-Hate the pacing of RTS games (learning hotkeys, developing effective build orders and being fast in setting your bases is essential to mastering Sins of a Solar Empire, and if you need time to think things through, you might be better off waiting for Civilization: Beyond Earth for your 4X fix).
-Expect a campaign or any kind of predesigned narrative - Rebellion has none.

It makes me moist.
I wish i had a TEC titan. :'(
But for real, if you do like RTS games (slow paced though, in a sense) and do get a hard on for space, you should definitely check it out.

Sins of a Solar Empire on the whole is a lot of fun and if you have any interest in RTS's I suggest you give this one a go. The detail in this game is very nice, and so too is the scope. I love being able to play on rediculously sized maps where I feel like I am actually exploring the universe - but the game is flexable enough to be enjoyed on much smaller scales.

Though my Steam stats don't reflect it (because it wasn't always on Steam), I've had many hours spent on this game and I enjoyed every bit of it. Of course, playing with friends makes this an even more interesting experience.

GREAT GAME. Extremely high replay value.

Back in the day, I played a game called Pax Imperia and its sequel Eminent Domain. In many ways, Sins of a Solar Empire looks, feels, and plays like the successor to these games.
______________________________________

Pros:
• Tutorials are fairly short and adequately teach gameplay.
• Many AI difficulty settings means the game will continue to be challenging for experienced players.
• Autosave feature is unobtrusive. Autosave feature keeps a full-game history, allowing you to go back to any point.
• 6 different victory types which can selectively be turned off/on.
• Good soundtrack. Almost all voiceovers are well done.
• Very large selection of pre-made maps, can randomly generate maps of any size, and comes with a map designer.
• Each race features a completely unique tech tree and set of units. Large selection of unit types each with their own skills.
• Diplomacy system is understandable and works well.
• With the amount of customization present, it's likely the next release in this series will be out long before you are bored with this game.
• Map navigation is easy and intuitive.
______________________________________

Cons:
• While the background universe Ironclad Games has developed is cool, there is no "story mode."
• No customization of races or factions (one of my favorite features from Eminent Domain).
• One voiceover is not very good and it annoys me every time I hear it.
• Tech trees can be slightly overwhelming on the first couple games.
• I wish it had more cosmetic options (such as changable ship skins, more portraits, etc).
• Hotkeys are difficult to learn.
______________________________________

Other Comments:
• DRM is nothing to worry about, just a 30-second product registration.
• Seriously, play the tutorials. You don't get to complain about a game's learning curve if you didn't bother to read the instructions.

If your planning on buying this game be sure to clear your schedule, one match will take quite sometime. But the game is very fun you start off owning a planet and must expand your empire through multiple solar systems fighting enemy's along the way. You can use diplomacy, cunning, and military to win. there is no campaign for this game only the type of mode i was just explaining previously. In this game there are three factions and each has a loyalist and rebel version both with different ships and abilty's. Another great thing about this game is you can get great mods such as sins of the prophet which is a halo mod. I would not suggest buying this game at the 40$ retail, wait till its on sale for around 20$.

Went back to play it, couldn't remember what the stardock login was. Deleted it, never going back, not wasting further time on it, there are other games out there. Not buying any future titles from this publisher either.

I'll put up with Steam DRM, but not this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I'd like to say I played this game and hated it, but I can't even get it to start. When I try to register/login to whatever 3rd party software the game requires to play, it just times out.

Its the games that make me feel like a total rube sucker for buying that I never forget about.

Congrats for grifting money from me. Fool me once.
