Recensioner

"Alex Vostrov has created the most fiendishly clever, creatively generous, and cinematically thrilling facing-down-the-alien-hordes real time strategy game this side of the original Starcraft! Who says a great RTS has to be a big budget studio endeavor?"
--Tom Chick, Quarter To Three

"Infested Planet is a game I’m excited to see evolve, as it has the potential to be a unique and engaging RTS unlike any I have played before."
--Nightmare Mode

"Infested Planet is already quite fun, and the current beta is being very actively expanded, refined and tuned. If you’re into strategy, this might well be worth keeping an eye on. After all, who knows what it could mutate into?" --DIY Gamer

"The mutations are an ingenious way to mix each game up and keep the experience fresh."

Command a team of 5 elite soldiers against an alien horde of 100,000. Surrounded on all sides, you must outmaneuver and outsmart the enemy.

The enemy is closing in around you. Your soldiers are being flanked and the perimeter is slowly collapsing under a vicious alien assault. Robotic turrets will not last much longer. Just a little more and the bugs will swarm into your unprotected base. What are your orders?

You order your soldiers to fall back to a defensive chokepoint and rebuild your defenses. Sacrifice the forward squads to gain some extra time. Gather your team while equipping them with flamethrowers and laser guns. Start building a siege cannon for fire support. Then, while the aliens are busy, flank their main hives to destroy and capture them.

You have just pulled off a tactical victory - but there's no time to rest.

The aliens are constantly mutating. One moment your shotguns are ripping through the horde, the next the aliens grow hard, bullet-proof armour. You must adapt as well. Equip your team with stealth suits, miniguns, grenade launchers - your commands will decide the battle's outcome.

Features

  • Real time tactical combat
  • A lengthy campaign where you develop new weapons
  • Procedural maps and random mutation system keep the game fresh
  • 21 Human weapons and buildings for you to wield
  • 33 Alien mutations to keep you on your toes
  • Fight thousands of enemies at once

Infested Planet is a hectic horde RTS title that matches a handful of marines with thousands of bugs and mutated nasties, overwhelming battles will remind you of Starship Troopers' scenes where death and retreat are inescapable.

All missions start with one or more base and a team of marines, with slightly varying goals in the campaign, which ultimately require the capture of all remaining bases and/or destruction of all alien hives. Variety is lacking, but the constant tide of aliens vs your rag-tag team of marines will keep you on the edge, inching slowly towards full domination.

Sound and music are serviceable, graphics are bright and clean, albeit a bit too monotone and can make spotting your troops a bit of a challenge (especially with some overhanging cliffs textures). There is enough structures and technology to keep you engaged in random missions and skirmishes, but not enough depth of strategy to warrant investing more than a few hours after finishing the main campaign.

Good fun for tough RTS fans but implementing multiplayer with a hive faction DLC would make this a solid title! 3.5/5

A shockingly Fun little game. It really is Far FAR more entertaining than it really has any right to be.

You play as some marines attempting to capture various nodes from a self-replicating alien swarm. There are upgrades that help provide a tactical advantage and specific classes you can train to make your units more diverse and better able to handle the threat that increases with each node captured. All around huge value for your gaming dollar and while based on a simple mechanic has more than enough fun and charm to keep your interest.

Best bloody game i have played in ages. It has all the charm of old school difficulty paired with brilliant addictive strategy. Don't read this review, just go and buy the ruddy thing and find out for yourselves.

Brilliant!

The closest you'll ever get to being one of Rico's Roughnecks in a video game.

Your men will come out victorious if you're lucky, atop the corpses of a few million bugs; and you'll have worked for it every second of the way.

Bug blood, sweat and tears.

Sequel plz

This game is so damn fun! It's about 15-22 hrs right now and you won't want to stop playing. It's like a casual RTS with tactics instead of strategy. Short and sweet, later missions and weekly challenges are both brutally tough but instead of making you quit in rage they beckon you deeper into the game. Simple but fun. Expect it to go on sale next week(20% off for launch from $14.95).

It's worth it now for less than a dollar an hour AT LEAST. You will want to replay it and the dev isn't greedy. He plans to add more after release and expansions are likely. 8/10 for the price.

Where on earth do I begin with this one. Right. Okay, what is it? It's not a traditional strategy game in the usual senses of the word. It's not an RTS in so much as that the forces are hideously asymetric, and it's not Turn Based either. I would call this a "Swarm control" game, where the concept is that you have a small number of deployable troops, as well as static defences, and from this you have to construct a working strategy that funnels a much larger force into killzones and crossfires.

Combat works on scales that you don't generally get to think about in such games, your 4-7 little poxy marines will end up riddling thousands, yes, thousands of enemy aliens with holes over the space of one mission, and quickly you stop viewing the enemy as a mass of individuals, but as mentioned - a swarm, one to be controlled, funnelled, and pushed back.

When you finally "click" with the concept, and you start figuring out how to approach the swarms and manage them, the game suddenly starts falling into place, systems and mechanics which were until then entirely unmanagable become second nature and intuitive, and you quickly fall into the habit of securing outposts, setting up turret crossfires, assessing where you can do the most damage, how to maximise your soldiers efficiency. You stop thinking in individual terms and if anything, approach the mission almost in a "grand strategy" way of things. That's the beauty of infested planet.

Graphics and sound are decent, it's an indie effort, and the graphics achieve what they set out to do (you won't get confused and lose track of what's going on, be thankful), ditto for the sound, the plot too, again, servicable, but the gameplay clicks, it takes a while to get over the learning curve, because the game is so radically different from what most people will be used to, but the investment eventually does pay off. The experience is very much unlike anything else around, and is definitely worth checking out if you fancy a change of pace from normal RTS experiences.
