Back in the old days, people actually finished games that were longer than 6 hours, included fun coop that had sequences that were awesome in coop or alone, and in all of those moments where modern game designers say "Eh, we can reuse that one animation or decal or sound" They instead doubled down and made 5 times as many as would have sufficed.

And this was just flash games.

Castle crashers is a glorious artifact of a dead generation of games, a generation that treated games like Art, and took pride in their work. The Coop is amazing, the gameplay is hilarious, and you will constantly say "Oh my god, theres like, a bazillion playable characters and they each have a hand drawn animation for a part of the game that only happens in a 4 second span"

This is a game everyone should own, in my opinion. Its hilarious good fun that will constantly surprise you with how much detail the devs considered when building it.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this game. It has it's appeal, and it's made by The Behemoth, but it just isn't fun for me. The gameplay consists of a A Y X X X X X Y X X X X X Y X X X X X Y X X X X X Y until the enemy dies, then you start it over on the next enemy. The only worthwhile attribute to level is strength, as magic and ranged do negligble amounts of damage.

Half the enemies in this game will constantly knock you down, making you wait doing nothing, and sometimes knock you off things making you incredibly crippled.

But, if you like hitting AYXXXXYXXXX and nothing else, like annoying knockdown, and like waiting for a poop joke to play out, then this game is for you.

It feels like a 2009 free flash game. A really good free flash game, but still a flash game.

The game itself is good. It has funny moments and action and magic. I've tried to connect a new controller I got, and it didn't connect though. And the game doesn't give you tutorials about the keyboarded controls. Making the game much harder for those who don't own an xbox. Although I find the game fun and clever, I really do wish they can make it easier for customers, such as myself, to play.

Its a Beat'em up mixed with an RPG. With Sandwichs and even Hidden Characters. Some are unlocked through playing the game, and others are unlocked by buying other games made by Behemoth. ( a.k.a Battle Block Theater.) If you're in the mood to kick butt, shoot arrows, eat sandwichs, and kill stuff. This game is for you!

And I just realized that I also described another game on Steam... Thats free.... And is a Hat Simulator....

A port of the Xbox Live Arcade version but with some major drawbacks for the pc gamer...

Castle Crashers is a fun-to-love party brawler for up to 4 players (online or local) which brings about classic gameplay and mixes that with modern graphics and humor. The game has a cult following so I'll be sure to talk about both the good and bad of the game. Since it's a negative review, I expect to recieve alot of down votes on this review. I'm going to be realistic about the game and as unbiased as I can be.

The experience: The game is all about comedy with an art style similar to that of Paper Mario. It's fun, addictive and a blast to play with friends on the couch!

The gameplay: Very comparable to classic beat-em-ups from Sega Genesis/SNES era but with power-ups and new weapons you can purchase. You have a bunch of levels, mini-bosses and bosses to defeat. There's alot of progression here, the game is packed with replayability.

The graphics: It's got a cool paper cut-out feel to it, cute characters and funny enemies but with a sprinkles of crude humor. It's like a living comic book. It's 2D scrolling but with some space to move in and out of the foreground - not unlike the old retro 16-bit beat em up classics (Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc).

The sound: Okay, nothing special but nothing bad. The instrumental scores are easily the best thing in the game as far as sound goes. The sound effects in the game are average and expected.

The pc port of the game somehow does not let you play with a keyboard and/or mouse...
The controls: Because this game is a pretty straight forward port of the Xbox Live Arcade version, it's best to play with an Xbox 360 or Xbox Onne controller. Playing with a keyboard and mouse is painful and discomforting as you can move but cannot attack.

Single-Player, Local Co-Op, and Online Co-Op:

Single-player: You can but that doesn't necessarily mean you should. Why not? Because it's definitely a party game meant for 2 or more players. Half the fun of playing the game is hitting your friend and seeing them ripped into shreds. The other part if the game is working together to form a strategy to defeat bosses. I find that playing this gane alone sucks alot of the joy out of the game, it just doesn't feel natural.

Local Co-Op: Local Co-Op is obviously the way this game was meant to be played. It's a sheer joy of getting your friend killed on-screen and seeing their face in real-life as they punch you for feeding them to the dogs. It's great to share smiles, laughs, and tears with loved ones and this game is the perfect thing to do it with. Above all else, if you buy this game, please do yourself a favor and have a second controller ready.

Online Co-Op: And here's another major problem... The netcode is broken and has many issues. Matchmaking from in the game is nearly impossible, you must match the other player's resolution, frame-rate and v-sync options. If you do not have all these things lined up with the other 1-3 players, the game will either lag very badly or it won't even connect at all. Doesn't seem so bad? How about searching for a game for half an hour (not very many people plsyimg this game anymore) only to find that that player has different settings than you, you both just want to play but there is no way to type or voice chat with them in a closed lobby therefore presenting yet another problem with the pc version of Castle Crashers.

The online portion of Castle Crashers is hugely disappointing as it's filled with issues and no way to communicate those issues with other players thanks to no in-game lobby.

It pains me to say it but I recommend that you skip this game unless you are willing to play it alone or have a friend or two (or three!) to play with you. Playing this game online or with keyboard or mouse is a nightmare. This game is kinda like an evil ex-girlfriend.. pretty and cute on the outside and ugly when you get to know what's on the outside. Despite the overwhelming content, the game lacks simple common-sense features that hold this version back. You'd be better off buying the console version (sadly).

Nobody likes a negative review but somebody has to do it.

This game is by far one of the most fun games I have ever played. It not only has a teamwork and fun on the main CC story, but also a few different things you can do besides. PS. Favorite part of the game was grossing my friends out by standing under the pooping owl. :P

This game is a pretty solid game, where you need to either be patient or go in Leeroy Jenkins.
Of course, like many games, there is a tier list and the character power difference from the best and worse is so horrid that i'm afraid I will never be able to finish Hard mode with Hatty, because Hatty in all essence just sucks.
Until you meet the Ice King.
Then you start to ask yourself "Was this Bungie's prototype for Destiny?"
Because he ISNT HARD.
HE JUST HAS SO MUCH HEALTH
JUST LIKE THE ENTIRETY OF DESTINY.
Overall, pretty good game. I had fun killing my gf then kissing another girl in front of her in this game.
Red Knight is just so good in pvp.

Don't let the time spent on my Steam account deter you, as I've played countless hours of this game on my Xbox before picking it up here.
This game is incredible fun, and even more fun with friends.
A satisfying combat system, addicting gameplay, and a surprising amount of content.

I recommend this game, especially if you find it on a Steam sale one day.
Get this ♥♥♥♥ if you're looking for a humorous button mashing good time.

Decent, but overrated. The combat and customization is great, and the multiplayer and trademark Newgrounds goofiness makes this a great party game. However, the experience/leveling is too overbearing; it controls not only the player's moveset and abilities, but also their health and damage-dealing ability. This kind of soils the experience by creating situations where the enemies either feel too tanky or too glassy, with rarely any middle ground if you play the game's levels out of order (or, if you play the game's tedious Hard Mode). And while the player character has diverse combat abilities, the enemies you fight start to become a little same-ish after a while.

As far as single player gameplay goes, I honestly would prefer to play Turtles in Time for the SNES. Price tag is "eh", your milage may vary.

This game is the perfect model for what it is: hit stuff and get stuff.

It's simple, fun, and straigtforward as well as funny at times. There's plenty to do, you won't beat this in an afternoon. It lets you play with friends easily and there are many characters to unlock and play. Lots of replay value.

My only big complaint is that the game doesn't work well with a keyboard. There's just no perfect way to set up the keys, and whenever you take a break and come back, you have to remember what each key does.

All in all, great fun game to play with friends, just bring a controller to plug in for maximum fun.
