Assists coming in next update!

On top of all the cool stuff that we're adding to the game with update 3.3: Rise of Galactron, we'll be adding something extra that you've been asking for for a long time: assists!

Awesomenauts is a team game, and many takedowns that happen are the result of several members of a team coordinating and timing their attacks. With the new update, players who have been involved in the defeat of an opponent but did not actually land the killing blow will share in the credit!

The exact rules for being credited with an assist (assuming you're not already receiving a full kill for it) are explained below. We'll be tweaking the exact timings in the upcoming Beta!

    - Any direct damage dealt to an enemy within a short time prior to their death will give an assist to whoever dealt the damage.
    - Any negative effect applied to an enemy within a short time prior to their death will give an assist to whoever applied the effect (this includes damage over time effects, slows, stuns, and any other debuff).
    - Any positive effects (like heals or buffs) applied to an ally who is getting an assist or a kill within a short time prior to the death of their target will give an assist to whoever applied the positive effect.
    - There is no range limit on being credited with an assist.
    - Assists are counted alongside kills and deaths but don't have any direct gameplay impact.
Additionally:
    - Any damage or negative effects applied to an enemy within a short time prior to their death at their own hands or due gravity, the incinerator, or AI-controlled characters like turrets, droids, the Sorona Worm, or the Solar Boss, will result in a kill being credited to the player instead of an assist.
Assists will give credit to players involved in killing enemies even though they didn't land the final blow, and we're excited to finally bring this to Awesomenauts!

This new feature will be included in the second round of Open Beta testing for Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron when it launches next week. This Beta will include a whole lot of fixes based on the feedback we've received during the first Beta!

Galactron Spotlight: Custom Game Lobby

The Open Beta for Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron is now available! If you haven't tried it out yet, head over to our Official Forums to find out how you can access the Beta and let us know what you think of all the changes that we've been working on!

Today we'll be talking about the changes to the Custom Game Lobby. This is the fourth installment in our series of Spotlights, and you can find the other episodes by heading over here.

Along with many other aspects of the game, the Custom Game lobby has been overhauled to work faster, be easier to use, and share more relevant information.

At the top of the screen you can now always see what the setting are for that game, and what map you'll be playing on. Figuring out which settings have been changed in a Custom game has also never been easier, as all settings that are not set to the default value for that particular game mode will be highlighted.

On top of all this, the Settings screen has been overhauled completely, making it much easier to actually find the setting you're looking for, and edit them in a much more comprehensive manner.

With the overhaul of this menu, we've also added a feature that has been requested for a long time: the ability to 'unready'! We all know that sometimes you've readied up only to have the match composition change at the last second, prompting players to want to switch teams or tweak some additional settings. Well worry no more, just hit unready and you'll once again be able to do everything you want!

The new Custom Game lobby screen is available in the Open Beta that's available right now. As with any other aspect of the game, we'd love to hear from you! If you have any thoughts to share about this, or encounter any bugs with it, please let us know through the Bug / Feedback form accessible through the main menu in the Beta. If you want to discuss anything in particular, you can also head over to our Official Beta Forums.

If you want to know about the changes coming in Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron, check out the other Spotlights we've released on this topic so far or try out the Beta for yourself!

The Open Beta will be closed on Monday July 25th and will be reopened when we've addressed the issues that came up during the tests!

The game is extremely fun to play. Gameplay is fast paced and brawling with your opponents in a 2d environment with a lot of different abilities extremely entertaining. It requires more skill to master the game mechanics than it seems. The graphics are great, voice cast and sound amazing, lore deep and funny. There is plenty of different heroes to choose from, you will stay occupied for a long time before you become proficient at all of them. The developers update the game all the time, they really try to meet the community's expectations and keep things fresh.

However, there are simply too many issues with awesomenauts to recommend it to a new player. Apart from the usual moba complaints (subjective issues like bad balancing, matchmaking, ranking formulas, toxicity of players, etc.) present here, which arent that big of a deal breakers to me, the game suffers because of peer to peer connection system. On top of a rather small active player base its a huge issue.

It's common to be constantly matched with players half way around the globe from you. 400 ping enemies is something you will see all the time playing this game. Not only cant you do much to prevent such players from joining your matches (region settings dont work at all, blocking a player on steam doesnt always work and is going away in a future patch it seems) but a lagging player have an upper hand when attacking you. You have to add his ping, so to speak, to all the stun, pull and knockback effects which will move you back to the place on the lagger's monitor during a fight while on your screen you are miles away from danger. The peer to peer connection system works in favour of high ping players which is really unfair to players with stable connection.

I play awesomenauts very often and enjoy it, but i have to tell, getting unfair matches most of the time is so frustrating i dont see how new players could enjoy the game now. Moba/2d-platformer mix works so great that it is strange there arent any more mobas like awesomenauts nowadays.

Literally a dead game. Game had a good community and was alive pretty well during the era where TotalBiscuit was promoting the game as he lend his voice for Vinnie & Spike.

While this game was made back in the day before MOBAs became an all-time high played gaming genre, Awesomenauts was received very well as a fresh and unique game. Which it still is today except for the forced mechanics from similar MOBA's like the EXP (alternatively, the "you will never make a come back") system and other tidbits ("down the throat" competitive) that only did the game more harm than good when there were bigger issues, like stability in games due to peer 2 peer hosting.

Now, with MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends being at a very high popularity, Awesomenauts should also adapt in terms of what is paid and what is free. The free characters that are released once in a while are obviously good and are of high quality as other characters, but there is no reason for characters to be behind a pay wall, especially in this current era with games like League of Legends and Smite where you pay for convinience which is skipping the grind to unlock all the champions/gods.

Just make the game free to play already or release all the characters for free, Ronimo. While it is obvious that the game should be profitable for it to keep receiving updates, people are not going to take a competitive MOBA-genre game seriously that is pay to play with characters locked behind a paywall. The skins are not the problem, it's the paid content behind a paid game that is a problem for the many of potential new players that will look at this game and turn away or buy it on a sale and never touch it again after playing 1-10 matches. It has only been losing players with some "spikes" during big updates/sales which have been lost at a faster rate than the mentioned spike.

I have over 1200 hours into this game and it is finally time to let it go. The community for it has dwindled from what it used to be, every new update just makes the game a little bit more laggy, and the new content the devs keep putting out isn't really worth the money in my opinion. They keep trying to push out new characters and new ideas that feel rushed and untested in the form of new dlc trying to keep alive something that is dying. It's sad to see you go Awesomenauts but to me this is no longer worth a purchase.

The thumbsdown on this review is based upon the fact that the community for the game is dying out, and for a game that is only online competitive multiplayer you need a fan base to keep it going. I cannot forsee this game lasting another couple years before it is dead altogether. Queue times trying to find a match are getting longer and longer. You should have bought the game when it first came out if you wanted the true Awesomenauts experience. It is not worth the purchase anymore.

I got this game back in the start of 2015, and it was great. Now, as the recent review for this game have shown, its taken a dark turn. I've spent over 200 hours on this game and quit like 5 times. The reason, is the games matchmaking. No matter what league you're in, its a guarentee that at one point, you'll be matched against a team of prestiege 10's with two guys that just installed the game. It has apparently been ♥♥♥♥ from the very start of this game, and Ronimo has'nt done jackshit. However, they claim that they'll fix it in an upcoming update, so fingers crossed. The community for this game is also very small, not a lot of people know about Awesomenauts, and it doesn't help that the jackasses in it just yell at new players and scare them off, bringing this game down even more. The XP system kinda ruined the most fun part about the game, and that was the long matches in which you couldn't tell which team was winning and the smallest mistake could lose you the game. Now, not only are players rewarded with solar and 1 less team member on death, they get extra damege and health, making it almost impossible to have those types of fun games, turning most matches into one-sided slaughters. I know that this all sound really negative, but let me list the positives of this game. The gameplay is incredibly unique and fun (if you have good teammates) and it's amazing when you're playing with a friend or two. Each character is unique and I feel that there is one suited for everyone's playstyle. The soundtrack for this game is excellent and the art style is unique and colorful.

In Conclusion: I've said my piece for this game, I think it's still a good game and worth your time and money, and I sure as hell reccomend it to you. They claim to be fixing the main issues with this game, so there's still hope on the matchmaking being fixed. If you do decide to buy this game, please, stick around and help the community grow, and maybe even leave a good review to help the game appeal to potential new members of this community. Thanks for reading the whole review! :D

Owned this game since release, and I've seen it go through many different iterations.

I can no longer recommend this game because the developers failed to deliver on multiple fronts:

- no dedicated servers, p2p matchmaking is TERRIBLE and the impacts of delay have always been horrid
- imbalanced matchmaking for higher ranks because of a dead playerbase - I was routinely in the top 300-500 players when I was active playing back in 2013, and it got to a point where, because I was solo queueing, I could not win games to save my life as they'd be against full rank 1 premades with voice comm.
- Starstorm expansion's features haven't been fully implemented, yet Ronimo had the gall to release another paid DLC for the game
- Oh, and the addition of the EXP system a few patches ago was the final nail in the coffin. Does nothing to help the snowballing problem this game has always had, in fact it makes it worse because now winning teams can snowball on two fronts - a solar lead (allows you to buy upgrades to your character's kit), AND an xp lead for additional stat increases

Somewhere along the way Ronimo forgot about delivering a quality game and attempted to cash in on what little they've managed to deliver. It's a shame because the art and character style of this game is fantastic. Hopefully one day I can recommend this game again.

This game is really good, i recommend buying it and dowloading the beta that will come within, because the beta is going to implement a whole new matchmaking system and interface! The matchmaking system is one of the only cons of this game, and i'll list the pros below:
- Good OST, Characters, Stage, Graphics and Animations.
- The whole game besides matchmaking system and fanbase.

Pretty good game.
Pros: Plentyful characters. Each character has own backstory, design, attacks, and upgrades each with different effects. Does justice to 2d games. For MOBA pretty excellent.
Cons: not enough cats. Doesn't have an epic campaign mode.

Great game, I love this game much more then League, if your into fast paced action platformers this is the game for you, the characters are amazing, and the soundtrack is catchy and amazing, matchmaking is the only bad side, they are improving it next patch 3.3 soon though.

These types of online battle games live and die by their matchmaking system. And Awesomenauts' matchmaking system is terrible.
