This game a few years ago was my favorite. This game had me hooked. It was a fast paced action packed MOBA based on quick twitch, quick thinking, and skill. It had a huge emphasis on brawling. Recently, things have now changed the balance that is mostly focused on pushing. You are going to constantly see the same 5 characters spamming push oriented builds constantly. The second you try to engage in a fight, they immediately run. They will use their skills to push you back Then there are also insane CC's and burst abilities that aren't balanced correctly. Most of the nauts are useless due to such inbalances.

This game is simply amazing

1. Wide range of characters with diverse move sets

4. Many, frequent, updates
5. Runs great on my uber crap laptop :D

This game she is pretty fun. Pretty and fun. I'm not going to try playing against humans though. Who needs that kind of humiliation?

Special mention for the sound design in this game, it put the awesome into [game title]. Voices, music and theme song are all exceptional, and at max production levels.

This game was my favorite game ever, in like 2012. This game was worth the $10. But then, the first DLC came out. Those characters weren't balanced completely, but it wasn't unplayable if you didn't have the DLC. Then the second one came out. And one of the characters is completely unbalanced. I love the roster of characters, they're all so unique. My favorite character, Ayla, I'm really good at. Unless there is a Prof. Yoolip on the other team (which is that completely unbalanced character I was talking about earlier). I went Ayla in one game and went like 24/2 or something. Although there were no Ix DLC characters on the other team. The Starstorm DLC was kind of annoying but I got it and it was fine. Then Ix makes it P2W. I hate to speak badly of this game, but I'm warning you, if you are willing to spend money on it, then it's good. If not... then good luck with all of the unbalanced characters. I'll still play it, because it is fun (and I already spent money on it) but there aren't enough people to get a game fast. AND: No dedicated servers. Lag is a MAJOR issue.

It used to be fun, but then they kept adding more characters. It's now unbalanced, the hitboxes are shocking, lag is a major issue due to no dedicated servers and late joining is really annoying. Also if you are up against a premade and you aren't a god then you've lost already.

So, I thought I could make some review, then here is my opinion on this game.

If you like moba games and kinda fast action, you should go into this one, it's not classical moba game, like Dota or LoL, it's 3v3 breath taking game I fell in love by the first look. If you like more fantasy/fast action/epic taunts and music, you should go in this one.

I like this game as it is simple enough to learn. Not worth $10 but ok when on sale. Unfortunately, I had to wait forever to get people to play with me and they aren't the same level so it isn't as fun to play as it could be.

-----------------------------------------------------------
I was Actually already hyped up to play this one before hand as I had seen a trailer for before, and even had a coupon to get it on sale, but forgot to use it before its deadline, So Needless to say I was excited to play this and write this Review.

They Always say don't judge a book by its cover, but a start page is a great place to START and the intro and start of this are great, the music accompanies the games intro very good as well, it gets you excited to want to play.

Side note Not sure if the Lonestar is a jab or hat tip to SpaceBalls, but that's what it reminds me of.

I like the "Mini game" of collecting coins in the spaceship before you land on the level, its a very nice touch that adds diversity to the gameplay.

The Game is basically a tower of defense style game, with side scrolling elements. I feel The Graphics really are a strong point in a sense that the artwork is very well gone, helping in making it a good game.

The Controls are decent, but the game itself is not that easy, Id relate the attacking to like mega man, lots of dodging and attacking, or hiding behind stuff and attacking in this case more often than not, Crossed with Something like happy wars, where your always trying to move forward and destroy a base but die often.

The local play option was HUGE for me, I'm always looking for games I can play together with my daughter and this one is one she really enjoyed as well.

The fact that the game is 3 vs 3 makes a nice multiplayer game that still has good teamwork.

Gameplay can last quite awhile, but its still fun, I feel like I can never blink tho lol.

I like the little fanfares when you win. Also nice to have a Scoreboard.

Definitely a Fun Gem of a multiplayer game.

PROS:
-----------------------------------------------
+Graphics look awesome, Well Drawn, and Colorful.
+Cool Music
+Fun Multiplayer Game Play both Local and Online
+Xbox Controller Support
+Trading Cards
+Lots of Characters to Chose From
+Lots Of DLC

CONS:
-----------------------------------------------
- While there is a bot mode, there is NO Campaign or story mode Which I think could of added to this game.
- Lots Of DLC Cost lots extra lol

Still will probably get all the DLC tho, so I can have all the Characters lol

8/10

Awesomenauts,
A fun, casual & cartoonish MOBA that is a blast to play alone and even better with friends. However, the game has a few MAJOR flaws that almost ruin the entire game and cannot be ignored.

Cons:
- LOW player base. In a game which is entirely against online players it literally becomes unplayable in non-peak times.
- NO dedicated servers. Causes many lag problems which is further complicated by the game being advantageous towards higher ping.
- UNBALANCED. Many balancing problems, especially every time a DLC is released. Also bad map designs and other problems such as snowballing.
- LATE JOINING. Yes, you heard me right, it is very possible to join a game literally seconds before your team loses.
- All the above problems have turned a once polite player base to salt.

Pros:
- When you actually find a game with reasonable ping and non-salty players it can be quite enjoyable.
- Interesting cast of Nauts, no two are the same.
- Music and voice lines are very entertaining and enjoyable.
- Lots of replay-ability, assuming of course you can actually find games.

Verdict:
A fun, interesting game brought down some rather large problems should have been resolved YEARS ago. If they made the game free and upped the price of DLC the player base would grow and solve the most major problem of being unable to play the game.
I cannot recommend this game in it's current state although with a few small changes they could fix the large problems and create a more "awesome" game.

Worth getting on sale or if it does go free, if you are in any way serious about MOBAs steer clear.

Game is fun and great to play to pass the time.

Matchmaking
HOWEVER, that does not mean crap when it's your second game and you're put against 3 players that are AND were in the top 10 ranking... 3 times in a row. If you're a new player, this is like Dark Souls but with High Ranking players as the bosses and you dont have any equipment with only 1 game under your belt. Much like Quasso's review, the match making, as the game puts it, is completely "Zorked."

"But you only have 10 hours under your belt." Yea, but that's 10 hours of facing players in the top 100 while I have what, 1-20 games under my belt. There was only ONE game where I was placed with people further down the list and even then they were still 1000 ranks above. I was REALLY hoping it was just because the game was trying to figure out where I am on the ranking list but even then after finding out where I placed I still fight the top 100 of thousands.

"Get gud" Yea because I'm forced to choose 2 things with this game: Spend 100s of hours just to be decent and maybe shadow the higher rank players or just lose 20 games in a row. Winning isn't everything but I'll tell you what, it's not fun losing every game you enter.

Even if I continue to play this game, the Community here will just call me out on doing poorly. "I'm new" means nothing to those elitist kids like come on.

It's such a huge shame when this game is fun to play but if I can't learn to play it or adapt to these top 100 players play styles then there's no point in me or others turning this game into a "chore." to get better at this game.

Until the ranking system is better I haft to agree with the top review. Fun as hell to play especially with friends, but the matchmaking is god aweful.

Balancing
As to be expected, the DLC characters have beefier stats than the base characters. This is simply because if there was no true incentive to buy the DLC, then there would be no need to stray from the free characters you get in the first place.

This happens all the times in games with DLC characters such as League of Legends. However, League of Legends demand for a new character is often due to his/her new and unique playstyle rather than pure stats. You can still very much outplay some one with a DLC character but they have more leeway with making mistakes and their stats. However, even talking with some experienced players in the top 100, they say their stats are unbalanced but can still be overcome.

This goes back to the first issue however. If a more advanced players uses a DLC character, they have the advantage of the stats and skill over just skill itself as it should be.

This is a minor issue to be honest but an issue non the less.

Client Side Hosting and its problems
Unlike a lot of other games, this game hosts games VIA Peer to Peer server hosting, or client to client hosting.

A majority of my games are met with having 400-600 ping (On average, even connecting to someone in the UK from California, I'll have 80 ping at the most!!) and if the host is on the other team, his moves will register just fine while yours will have a delay. This makes skill shot characters almost useless. Some people as hosts can abuse this with something called Lag Switching: A simple program you can set up to purposely put a heavier load on your Modem, giving you higher latency.

Also on the rise recently, I have been in a few games that a host has forced others to disconnect through a hangup program or a DDP (Direct Distruption Program) that forces other IPs or connections to disconnect from them (The Host). Ironically, these are the games I have had the best ping with (24-50). I have reported both cases and one has resulted in a VAC ban so at least this problem is being taken care of... at a snail's pace.

This ONLY happens with a Client Side hosting system such as in this game. These hackers would haft to DDoS them which is more difficult to do if the game had its own servers.

Hopefully I'll play you again later Awesomenauts.

I can safely recommend dont touch this game with a 10 foot pole. The matchmaking has been broken since day one. Ive owned this game for roughly 3 years now. I used to play avidly now i play on and off with a good friend who plays all the time. My friend plays all the time because its become "their game" its what they do, do they enjoy it? No. Its like dropping 300 dollars in dota cosmetics. After you put all that time in why quit now?

The matchmaking in this game and the community itself is absolutely horrible. In no other game have i seen such a visible line the community. Either someone cares deeply about the game and is nice and interactive and fun to play with or chat. Or they are a toxic troll who will ruin your game. Whoever you get stuck with, totaly random.

The matchmaking itself is somthing ive seen no other game do and those games have been succesful for it. In awesomenauts its 3v3 when you start a match. Boom someone leaves your game. You have a bot now. "Oh like csgo so i can control it if i die." Well no you cant control it. I havent expereinced the bot AI recently but when i last had to play many-a matches with them they have the AI of a child from a turkey and a potato. Oh you just qued for a game? Lets put you in one thats already going on to replace a bot. This is awesomenauts. 9 times out of 10 you will be qued into a game that is already going on. "Who wants to start fresh from the beggining of a game? Not me." -Game Devs

If you own the game dont touch the dlc either. I bought the starstorm dlc in early acess for my friend and me wanting to help the game maybe get better. It didnt. The map they promise in the pack has come out A YEAR LATER. The heros also came out very slowly. You can critize me for buying in to early acess dlc but this is a game that had recieved quite the publicity and funding. Including the likes of the yogscast and totalbiscuit off the top of my head. You recieved maybe 3-4 heros and a map. I dont even know if the map is specific to dlc owners or dlc owners funded it. Theres a new dlc out with new heros. This game used to be great because you had a large hero pool to play from. Now its locking things behind a 10 dollar paywall.

The gameplay is alright down to its core. Its a 2d moba or Dota game. With different heros with differnet skill sets that are fairly customizeable, as you level up. Which is strange to lock undeniably better unlocks for different playstyles behind a leveling up system, which you then loose all these levels if you decide to prestige. Prestige is there idea of end game for people that have played it out enough. Personaly ive never enjoyed prestiging and loosing my progress. In COD you would loose your guns and gernades, etc and receive the basics agian. The same stands true for this and there truely are some undeniably better upgrades for heros later on.

Edit: After reading a couple other reviews i forgot about the new system. In game team levels. A concept ripped straight from heros of the storm (a horrible game doing poorly) your team shares "xp" gotten from being around creeps that are dieing, this includes heros. Well if your team starts to fall behind, this level system gives the team more damage and health. If your behind look at you, you start loosing more and more, suddenly the levels are 5 to 9. The damage and health is minimal. Say 2% more each level. But why? What is the real purpose? If its so small why add it? And it doesnt even help the team thats behind in anyway it just makes it wose. And its already challenging enough to come back as it is.

TLDR: Community bad. Matchmaking bad. Gameplay Ok/ DLC is overpriced and ruining the core game

Me: Guys quick! I found a MOBA that doesn't have a pompous community and is vicious to get into!

DOTA Friends: DOTA?

Me: *no longer has DOTA friends*

Seriously, though. I believe I read somewhere that the design plan for this game was to take everything that makes MOBAs like DOTA fun, and then leave the rest on the cutting room floor. And it's awesome! The game is very unique, from its upgrade system to art style to its meta, and I recommend at last giving it a shot. If you don't like it in two hours, send it back!

I have played this game for a while now. It's incredibly fun and addicting, but the sad thing is the developers don't have any idea what they're doing anymore. With each update there comes a decrease in player base as they throw more and more characters into the mixing bowl without balancing the ones already in existence (the guy who "balances" the characters doesn't even play the game). It's definitely worth the buy if it is on sale but otherwise just keep it in your wishlist until that happens. Beautifully animated and put together with a lot more depth than meets the eye. The community is lot more toxic these days with rage quitters, stuck up pieces of garbage who think they're better than they are (yes we are all looking at you NotSee), and lag abusers. Also they still let people late join which is incredibly dumb and they refuse to spend the crowdfunding money theyh get to create dedicated servers. The dev team is mostly made up of artists which has its pros and cons. Anyway buy the game for a fun time with friends. I have met nearly 200 Steam friends just through this game alone. I still enjoy it with all these problems and hopefully someday it wll reach its full potential. 8/10

Awesomenauts takes the MOBA genre to a lovely 2D sidescroller platforming brawler type game. Clever and original backstories and creative characters and skills make this game enjoyable from the start.

Awesomenauts might be a small player in the MOBA genre, it's one with undeniable charm. Seeing as the game goes on sale quite frequently, lowering its already low price, there's no reason not to try this game.

I have to say this is one of my favorite games because of the time I've spent on it. Its a very good and well thought out game with some little problems that I must highlight.

Pros :
- Insanely fun with a extreme amount of replay ability.
- Maps are well thought out and the function of the platfroms run smoothy.
- Each character is well thought out and has a intresting personality.
- I for one love the way farming and sieging is in this game, not very tedious and a very loose to how some other mobas demonstrait it.
- The music is godlike, when I get that killing spree or my team is Awesome I get pretty hyped to fight some people. Even in other games I have the theme of certain characters playing because there incredible good.

Cons :
- Not very balanced, some characters are horrendously strong causing some to never be played or just be completely weak to others. (Alya) And while I love the way they were made they are a little, broken but are also hard to balance so I guess I can make a partial execption.
- Leveling system is annoying, either it means nothing or its the singlehanded thing why one other team wins.
- Lag issues are huge, I have died to dead towers on certain occasions and been hit across the map by others.
- Match making is annoying when you get placed in with people much better then you or you get put against a team that dosen't seem to know how to jump correctly.
- I don't like the idea of having all the damage and slows on percentages even thought they can only go up to a certain amount withought the leveling system so it kinda defeats the purpose to me. I can see it as a way to make the math simpler by just having a base damage times a certain percentage just makes it harder and less appealing to me as I never how much damage I do until I auctaually hit someone.

Over all thought this game is great, if you want a game where you can chill out and be awesome, Awesomenauts is a good game for you. Me and my friends have sunk hours into this game and have even learned to play other Mobas from this one game so it can even be used as a starter if you want to start playing Mobas. See you later Awesomenauts and remember. "All is fair in love and war"

Right off the bat I'll say YES YES YES this is an AWESOME game.

It's a sidescrolling MOBA -- basically this is how it works:

There's a red and blue team. The ultimate goal is to get to their base and destroy it, located on the far left and far right of the map. But the base is defended by several turrets which you have to destroy first. And they fight back really hard. So, each team makes AI-controlled "droids" (robots), which walk up to the turrets and distract them so that you can attack the turrets safely. The main fighting is between the Awesomenauts which are player-controlled. There are many different characters to choose from with different traits, attacks, and upgrades.

This game is NOT p2w. Though there are DLC which give you exclusive characters, these characters are not more OP than the vanilla ones.

There is one thing about the game which I don't like: playing multiplayer with strangers. I wouldn't recommend this as if the other team are in a call, they will crush you, and laggy players/ragequitting players mess up the game. So play single player or custom matches with your friends.

Awsomenauts in the beginning was a very questionable decision for me, I did eventually buy it after my close friend recommended it to me, and as I have played it I have enjoyed the game a lot and have also gotten a few of my friends to buy it as well. The game is definitely fun and replayable just like a normal MOBA, but (this might be just me) seems not as fun playing solo unlike Dota and LoL, this happens to make me play the game less but I suppose I digress. Would give a rating of 8/10 for being something fun and different, but also having replay-ability which I love seeing in a lot of games, and will make me play the game more in the future.

8/10

I currently have sunk 1,476 hrs into Awesomenauts.... and counting.
So what can I say.
Love/Hate relationship with this highly addictive game.
Sometimes I take breaks, but I always come back.

~Lag sucks.
~Match making sucks.
~About half of the community sucks.
~Character balance is always changing and sucks.
~Updates are constant but they aren't fixing anything important like the lag issues,
sometimes games crashes mid game and that sure sucks.
~That said, I love this game.

Mastering characters is fun and addictive.
Some games are extremely fun.
Playing with friends enhances the experience.
But going solo can be rewarding.

~The community.
Some games are great, no matter if you're winning or losing everyone is joking around and having fun.
Or at the least, just not trash talking and everyone says gg at the end.
Some of the community is super awesome and there are nice people out there, I promise.

So each game is a gamble. Its going to be fun, meh, or kind of a terrible experience.

There are a lot of crappy people. The kind of poisonous people that when they are winning they are bragging and insulting the other team, if they're on your team or the other team it sucks.
And of course they are the same people that when they are losing, they are complaining and insulting their teamates (which is sometimes you), blaming lag, and claiming they are the best and everyone else sucks before rage quitting.
Just call these asshats out or ignore, but don't let them discourage you.

Everyone wins and loses. Everyone.

~Server issues. Maps, Characters.
There are no dedicated servers, so players host. There are often lag issues.
This is something Ronimo needs to fix but instead they constantly change existing characters and periodically release new characters. Balance is something to be desiered, so are maps.
A new map has finally been released so I am pretty happy about that.

~The best tip for new people.
Stop dying. Just STOP. Calm down. Take a breath. Defend.
It is better to practice your character and defend than charge in and die over and over again.
Losing is a slippery slope that gets steeper every death and sometimes there comes a point, where there is no way your team will win. But still, don't just give them the game. Make them work for it. lol

Even though there is a lot to complain about, I love Awesomenauts.
I was gifted this game, but ended up bying it for a few of my friends during sales.
It is worth the 10 bucks. The expansions are worth it too.
Buy it, fggts.

This game is absolutely astonishing. The characters, the gameplay, the music; everything about the game itself is truly terrific and I highly reccommend you join the fun. The DLC is also really neat as well, adding new customised voice sets, appearances and even new themes to your favourite characters. As you can tell from my profile picture(s), this game's inspired me to create a fan-game sequel with the community because this game is remarkable as two purple lizards riding a bicycle singing in Morgan Freeman's voice. If you are a fan of the Yogscast, Jesse Cox, Ashly Burch, Dodger, TotalBiscuit or intersteller rapping water frog gangsters, then this game has a character for you (this also isn't even the entire list).

If you're still reading, I'm sorry for wasting the time you could spend buying and playing this grand game. Peace.

Bought the game. Really liked it. Now I'm banned and I don't know why...
Didn't get a warning. Didn't get an explanation. Didn't get my money back.
Gold star for Ronimo for wasting my hard earned money.
Might as well set fire to my cash
