I got this game back in the start of 2015, and it was great. Now, as the recent review for this game have shown, its taken a dark turn. I've spent over 200 hours on this game and quit like 5 times. The reason, is the games matchmaking. No matter what league you're in, its a guarentee that at one point, you'll be matched against a team of prestiege 10's with two guys that just installed the game. It has apparently been ♥♥♥♥ from the very start of this game, and Ronimo has'nt done jackshit. However, they claim that they'll fix it in an upcoming update, so fingers crossed. The community for this game is also very small, not a lot of people know about Awesomenauts, and it doesn't help that the jackasses in it just yell at new players and scare them off, bringing this game down even more. The XP system kinda ruined the most fun part about the game, and that was the long matches in which you couldn't tell which team was winning and the smallest mistake could lose you the game. Now, not only are players rewarded with solar and 1 less team member on death, they get extra damege and health, making it almost impossible to have those types of fun games, turning most matches into one-sided slaughters. I know that this all sound really negative, but let me list the positives of this game. The gameplay is incredibly unique and fun (if you have good teammates) and it's amazing when you're playing with a friend or two. Each character is unique and I feel that there is one suited for everyone's playstyle. The soundtrack for this game is excellent and the art style is unique and colorful.

In Conclusion: I've said my piece for this game, I think it's still a good game and worth your time and money. They claim to be fixing the main issues with this game, so I'm hopeful. It's up to you on whether you want to buy it or not, the review is on positive so it helps the overall reviews for this game go back up to positive. If you do decide to buy this game, please, stick around and help the community grow.

Literally a dead game. Game had a good community and was alive pretty well during the era where TotalBiscuit was promoting the game as he lend his voice for Vinnie & Spike.

While this game was made back in the day before MOBAs became an all-time high played gaming genre, Awesomenauts was received very well as a fresh and unique game. Which it still is today except for the forced mechanics from similar MOBA's like the EXP (alternatively, the "you will never make a come back") system and other tidbits ("down the throat" competitive) that only did the game more harm than good when there were bigger issues, like stability in games due to peer 2 peer hosting.

Now, with MOBAs like Dota 2 and League of Legends being at a very high popularity, Awesomenauts should also adapt in terms of what is paid and what is free. The free characters that are released once in a while are obviously good and are of high quality as other characters, but there is no reason for characters to be behind a pay wall, especially in this current era with games like League of Legends and Smite where you pay for convinience which is skipping the grind to unlock all the champions/gods.

Just make the game free to play already or release all the characters for free, Ronimo. While it is obvious that the game should be profitable for it to keep receiving updates, people are not going to take a competitive MOBA-genre game seriously that is pay to play with characters locked behind a paywall. The skins are not the problem, it's the paid content behind a paid game that is a problem for the many of potential new players that will look at this game and turn away or buy it on a sale and never touch it again after playing 1-10 matches. It has only been losing players with some "spikes" during big updates/sales which have been lost at a faster rate than the mentioned spike.

There is no match-making system, and when i join a game with my 20 hours of experience, then i get matched against people with 437 hours. Everyone thinks that its fair, and they have no advantage, but that f*cking bullsht!!! When i just bought the game i got matched against the highest prestige players! Thats not fair at all.

1/10 if you buy this game, expect to loose all your games. I have won around 2 out of 10 games. Please don't waste money on this ♥♥♥♥ game.

NEVER BUY!

I just want to say that this game used to be incredibly good. In all honesty I've played more of Awesomenauts than any other game I've played to date. This game is a MOBA like any other, but with rather simplistic mechanics compared to other MOBAs. Things like shop items are limited to a small variety that can drastically change the style of play of characters, very unique to other MOBA shop items that merely provide stat changes. Despite being a "Watered-down" MOBA, the game was very fun to play.
As the years carried on, however, the game began to quickly lose its sheen. Ronimo has failed to listen to its fanbase time and time again. The matchmaking system now is the same as it was when it was first released: Without relative skill matchmaking, so matches are often decided before they even start. No dedicated servers, so networking in the game is strictly peer-to-peer, which doesn't work well with MOBAs. All forms of hit detection are determined by the client of the attacking player, so a lagging player can easily rack of kills by exploiting his latency. Game balancing has been an issue, as the stronger characters tend to be the newer ones available through DLC, making things feel P2W at times. The community is awful; expect cancer.
Overall, this game had potential, but slowly my expectations for Ronimo to respond to player pleading and continued to take the game in a direction no player wanted.

If you love;
-Waiting for players to join your game
-Playing against unbalanced characters
-Playing with 300 ping
-Playing agant players who are on much higher skill level
-Playing with 2 bots on your teams and 3 players on enemy team

Then you will love this game. I sure didnt.

Dont play until they release a update where it fixes the matchmaking so you dont feel like you are masturbating with sandpaper every time you play this game.

EDIT: So the summer sale is going on right now and new people might get attracted to this game.
To clarify,Awesomenauts is a really good game. Should you buy it? Why yes ofcourse! Its for like 2.5$! Are you going to have fun with the matchmaking? Probably not,as I stated above. But its worth the price if you ask me. So go buy it!

Do it now!

The game itself is fairly good quality, but its balance is dubious at best and it has one of the most vitriolic online communities I\'ve seen. The game is EXTREMELY beginner unfriendly since you only get new skills and characters by leveling up and during those early levels you have other players calling you all sorts of lovely names and telling you to leave.

I'm sad to add my hat to the pile of negative reviews. Awesomenauts always had a unique sort of charm to it. It's likely the first online game I invested hundreds of hours of my life playing. Ronimo were also the first developers that I really wanted to support. I followed all the streams, bought nearly all the skins as they released and gave 50 bucks to the Starstorm kickstarter.

Unfortunately it's nowhere near as charming as it used to be. The UI used to have character and life to it and the devs kept "updating" it by removing or streamlining features. The shop redesign was the first thing to make me raise an eyebrow. Awesomenauts used to display all the items in a vending machine kind of setup where you could view all the colorful artwork for each upgrade. It clearly had a lot of love put into it. The new "improved" shop system was a transluctent sci-fi styled pull out menu with much tinier icons. While I understand Ronimo wanted to expand the amount of items per row from 3 to 6, they could have just drawn more space in between. There have been many other minor UI changes but that was the most saddening to see.

On top of the life being drained from it, I have a lot of issues with the XP system they introduced back in September. That was the final straw for me. I tried for months to play the game anyway figuring it'd grow on me. It did not. I still can't fathom why Ronimo broke their own game so badly. Snowballing matches happened occasionally under the old system, but after XP was introduced they skyrocketed. The solar drops and respawn time on kills were already strong enough ways to gain advantage, but no. That wasn't enough. Now teams gain buffs to damage and health too! Ronimo also stated their intent was to speed up matches that took too long but that wasn't ever an issue to begin with. My most memorable matches were longer ones where the leading team changed back and forth. Games are way too short now and it's much harder to have a match you feel was worth the time spent.

The XP system patch also needlessly complicated other parts of the game. Ronimo multiplied all health and damage numbers by 10 to make it seem like you were doing more. The problem with this is that every number displayed now has 1 extra digit. You can imagine how much this gets in the way during gameplay. I could tell day 1 that hindering every players view of the match was in no way a good enough tradeoff for bigger numbers. Sure you adjust to it but there was really no point in changing it to begin with. Reverting it could only improve on the issue, after all.

You also used to be able to read how much damage you'd gain for taking an upgrade but the added percentage increases with the XP system make this old method impossible. Instead, every upgrade now states the increase as a percentage. This isn't user-friendly at all. In such a fast paced game where you need to be spending as little time as possible browsing the shop, it's incredibly difficult to tell at a glance how effective an upgrade will be when it's displayed as a percentage. I used to be able to see that I'd get 25 (now 250) extra damage per stage. Now your guess is as good as mine, unless you want to be bothered to calculate percentages as your turret continues to be shredded. I don't need to know the exact numbers sure, but a ballpark figure of what I'm capable of dealing would certainly be appreciated. Again with time you could memorize what does what. However, each character added to the roster makes this more and more of a headache.

I sympathize with the developers. I really do. After putting in so much time and effort on a complete overhaul to the game's mechanics, it would be a colossal waste to revert the changes. That's the issue. Ronimo has its hands tied and can't as a company justify going back to the previous system. Unfortunately the game has to suffer for it. I had many great times with Awesomenauts but I cannot recommend this game anymore.

This game made me really happy!!

Pros
- Cute, awesome and futuristic design
- Super fun and even more with friends!
- It gets updated pretty often! I had to catch up with updates several times and they always amaze me with a new character! They even give a chance to regular players to participate and compete providing a new character design which actually they brought to life in-game, so that's lovely!
- Loved how many characters you can play with! They are completely different one from each other and with a whole set of skills that always comes with surprises!
- When I've started out being weak and competed against high level folks, I've managed with tactics and taking advantage of my skills + environment. It worked! :)

CONS / suggestions:
- I wish you could earn some clothes as rewards instead of always buying them.
- I wish server were P2P to avoid lag issues.
- Brazilian people mostly took advatange of lag to win and kill while I was frozen. (not nice) As a solution I've created matches on my own to play along with highest lvl bots and issue solved.
- That's it lol!

This game! Love it!! It's gorgeous, lag will get fixed someday :) It won't change all the fun and love I've got from it! :P
Thanks!
