Up is down and down is up. Left and right thankfully remain the same, for most of the time... Also be careful, you might fall from the wall. Depth is an illusion, and since up is down, does that mean that effectively there is only one dimension left?

Confused? GOOD, you should be! Because this is what 'the bridge' is all about!

The Bridge is a puzzle platformer where you manipulate gravity to reach the exit on impossible terrains! This game will make you rethink how your visual comprehension works. The main mechanic of the game is that you can rotate the entire level clockwise or counterclockwise changing the gravity in the process. However that is not all, as the majority of the levels are heavily inspired by the works of M. C. Escher (seriously go google this guy) where walls turn into floors or you end up walking on a pylon that you passed by a few moments ago. This game will give you such a headache that you 'll feel your brain liquifying and then being reshaped as you finally figure out the solution as your brain has accepted the new impossible rules! However sometimes you may arrive at the solution accidentally having no clue of what you actually did! In the end you will begin to see each level differently as instead of walls or floors you will be seeing surfaces, each with its own connections towards other surfaces! And just when you get used to it and feel you are ready for whatever the next level or chapter might be, then it adds more stuff beginning the process anew! And even when you finally complete the main levels, then you 'll get access to their 'mirrored' harder versions!

The visuals are quite satisfying, fitting the impossible theme of the game almost making you feel that it could not have any other colors as from the tiny bits of each chapters story you will understand that it is about mathematics! Everything is hand-drawn and the animations are fluid and, for some, may feel a bit slow, however I personally liked the speed, as the levels impossible architecture gave me a feeling of eternity, as you are either stuck in time or that time doesn't matter! The music complements the game perfectly without overshadowing it even at the more intense puzzles.

As far as controls go, the game supports controller and either keyboard or controller schemes are easily grasped. Personally I favored keyboard because I could play with one hand only while I was holding my head with the other because of the headache I got!

Besides the obvious puzzle fans this game will attract I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to stare at optical illusions or impossible sketches as it can, essentially, give you a ride on them!

It's a nice game, certainly. It's visually stunning (artwork is awesome) and at first glance puzzles are very cool.

However after a while it starts feeling kinda slow (movement is slow, drawing is slow, progression is slow). The story is very subtle (next to none I would say), so if you are not really hooked up by the puzzles there is nothing that will prevent you from stop playing. So I did, I stopped.

Don't get me wrong, it's not by any means a bad game. It's Braid in a twisting world, but I need it to be just a little faster, or more immersive. My play time is VERY limited and I need to make it count.

Absolutely boring !

Everything in this game has been created to make you regret playing it :
- graphics : full grey ! Playing a full grey scale game (and not even strong contrast !) is like looking at a grey sky for hours... Who would like that ?!
- music : you're still not dead with the graphic-design ? Hey! No problem, the music will reach you to death !
- puzzles : some puzzles are just too way difficult ! Come on, guys !! It's supposed to be a f*** puzzle game ! Not a perfect-pixel-skills game !
- Gameplay : ok so you can only move left or right and turn the background to 360°... with a f*** low speed !!!

After an hour playing this game and something like 15 levels with no fun at all, I just wanted to cut my veins !!
A video-game is for fun ! Even a reflexion game ! This one is just boring as hell !!

You want to play real, good and simple puzzle-game ? Don't waste your money (even $1) for this one and fo play to "Monument Valley" or "Thomas was Alone".

Something all indie games should be. So I was browsing a back catalogue of bundle games, (and trust me, if you got a back catalogue, you are missing nothing -- a lot of these indie games are just bad) and found this game intriguing. So I tried it out. What an amazing game. A physics puzzle game is the best I can describe it. However, since I've enjoyed Portal 2 a lot, I've played about six levels in this game and then decided to write this review. I will praise its art style, mechanics, and very polished interface and mechanics, but if you own other physic/puzzle games like Portal then you're not missing anything extraordinary unless you are a fan of such games.

A nice physics/puzzle platformer game in which you rotate the world around to either move objects or make it possible to reach new areas.
The levels start of quite simple and easy to work out but towards the end they can get quite confusing and require a lot of thinking and retrying.
You come across new mechanics throughout the levels.

It's possible to rewind time and undo every action you've made, going back how far you wish and attempt any part without having to redo the whole level. It's slow paced and you can really take your time on the levels.

The game is quite short which can be finished within a day and there's not much replay value.
There's no real story to follow but you can find various bits of text scattered around the world to read.

Simple art design but really well drawn and in grey scale to give each level a nice eerie atmosphere.
I got this in a humble bundle and it's not something I would personally buy but I have no complaints about the content in the game. It's well made and well thought out.
Worth it if you enjoy good challenging puzzles or if it goes on sale.

The Bridge is a great physics puzzle game.

It makes you play around with gravity in 2 dimensions.
You don't know exactly what this means? Don't worry, the game eases you in on its mechanics.

Difficulty:
Although you get introduced to new mechanics in easier levels, the difficulty does NOT go up gradually.
Sometimes you have a very tricky level that takes you 30 minutes or more and on the next one you see the solution right away and are through in no time. Sometimes this is due to the learnings of the hard level, though.
All in all, the game is very challenging and requires you find a new approach in many levels.

TIPP: Do not limit yourself by what you could do so far. Think more like "given the physics, what else could i do?".

Value/price:
Personally i don't judge the worth of a game by playing time only. Rather i judge a game by the lasting impression it has on me.
Although i finished the game in a little more than 10 hours (used walkthrough help on 3 hard levels *duck*) i find the price of € 5,99 (i paid in a sale) totally fair for what i got for it. Knowing it now, i would also pay the regular price of € 9,99.

Reference:
It might not be up there with Portal overall because it's lacking the funny and captivating story arch and because of its shortness, but the puzzles are definitely on the same level.

I also like the pencil drawing style. It perfectly fits in with the music and the puzzles.
Overall i would totally recommend this game if you are a friend of quality puzzles.
Enjoy! :)

Přesto hra často vyžaduje i určitou šikovnost a schopnost věci načasovat.

Výborná hádanková hra s fantastickou grafikou a vypiplaným enginem. Záměrně nepíši, že se jedná o logickou hru, jelikož The Bridge není až tak o přemýšlení nad řešením, jako spíš o prověření hráčovy zručnosti (těžké místnosti prověřují zejména schopnost balancování, ne až tak logiku).

The Bridge is made from M. C. Escher's nightmares. Normally that would be a bad thing, but in this case, it's very good. The Bridge is a puzzle game with a simple premise: Reach the exit door. Your only tool is control over the direction of gravity though you can only change its direction slowly. You will need to avoid deadly obstacles and obtain keys to unlock doors in order to escape.

While a few of the levels require frustrating levels of repetition and precision in order to reach your goal, most of them are very enjoyable. In total there are 24 puzzles and 24 mirror versions which add some elements of difficulty in addition to being reversed. Strangely I found the mirror versions of some of the hardest levels easier than their normal counterparts. Even if you aren't into puzzle games, the Escher-like artwork is worth marveling at.

One thing I found missing in the game is music. It seems like a greatly missed opportunity for a unique and strange soundtrack to match the level design. There is some music in the game but it plays rarely and is very quiet.

The other major weakness I found is probably not something many players will encounter: The collectibles. Some are absurdly difficult to find, and one even requires you doing something that the game constantly tells you doesn't work for the entire game. When you do locate them all, the reward is extremely anticlimactic. It's annoying but like I said, the majority of players probably won't bother with the collectibles and those that do will most likely use guides so they don't go insane trying to find them all.

As a fan of puzzle games, I greatly enjoyed The Bridge. You will too!
